Ramping up to 1.5Moz in West Africa With Peter Ledwidge

20 Jul 2022

Description

In this episode, we have a returning guest who appeared back in April 2019 (Ep 21). Peter Ledwidge is the founder & MD of Mako Gold which is exploring and developing gold assets in Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa. Peter is a geologist with over 30+ years of experience in exploration and mining focusing primarily on gold in Canada, Africa, and Australia. He gives us an update on what Mako Gold has been doing over the last few years. Plus, we talk about the exciting prospects that West Africa has to offer. We also chat about why people in West Africa understand mining whereas people in Western countries do not. KEY TAKEAWAYS Since its launch, Mako Gold has made three gold discoveries. The Napié Project and the Korhogo Project, in Cote d'Ivoire and a third one which they sold last year. The Napié Project is their focus. They recently announced their main resources of 868,000 ounces at 1.2 grams per tonne. Within a year or less production will grow to 1.5 million ounces. Currently, they are drilling the Korhogo Project. West Africa has changed dramatically since the nineties. It is now relatively easy to hire experienced people from the local population. West Africans get mining in a way that most people in Western countries don't. They appreciate that we need mining. The outlook for mining in West Africa is good. The governments there are very pro-mining. In West Africa, you can put a mine into production far quicker than you can in most other jurisdictions.   BEST MOMENTS ‘Our crew on the ground is 100% local which stands us in good stead with the administration. ´ ‘Now, gold mining is the number one GDP source.’ ‘If the share prices are down, it’s a good time to buy.’   EPISODE RESOURCES Website: https://www.makogold.com.au LinkedIn: https://au.linkedin.com/company/mako-gold Twitter: https://twitter.com/MakoGoldLtd/ Previous Peter Ledwidge DDMP podcast episode - https://www.podcastaddict.com/podcast/2273461   VALUABLE RESOURCES Email: [email protected] Website: https://www.mining-international.org/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/MiningRobTyson Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DigDeepTheMiningPodcast/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theminingpodcast/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/DigDeepTheMiningPodcast/videos   ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is an established recruiter in the mining and quarrying sector and decided to produce the “Dig Deep” The Mining Podcast to provide valuable and informative content around the mining industry.
