E93: The Guts and Glory of Entrepreneurship: Grainne Kelly, CEO of BubbleBum

13 Nov 2023

Description

Grainne Kelly, a celebrated entrepreneur with multiple awards to her name, serves as the CEO and mastermind behind Bubblebum UK Ltd, the pioneering creator of the world’s first inflatable car booster seat. Established in December 2009, Bubblebum has successfully extended its reach to twenty seven countries, securing placement with major retailers like Walmart, Amazon, Halfords, John Lewis, and Target. Grainne, a mother of two, embarked on the journey of inventing Bubblebum to address her personal dilemma. Frequent travel between Ireland and England exposed her to the inconvenience of lugging around traditional, bulky booster seats on aeroplanes due to car rental companies’ inability to provide them for her children. Remarkably, she transformed her concept into a market-ready product in just nine short months. In the early days of her business, Grainne, along with her husband and two sons, relocated from their home in Northern Ireland to the United States. She openly shares her experiences of navigating the challenges of those early days, particularly the delicate balance of family life and entrepreneurship. This episode delves into the rollercoaster ride of Bubblebum’s rapid growth, exploring the highs and lows. Grainne reflects on the courage it takes to make pivotal decisions and to pull things back when your gut tells you to.  An episode not to miss!
