Five of the six conservative judges sitting on the supreme court voted in favour of the reversal, ensuring a majority. US President Joe Biden said it was a “sad day for the court and for the country” and called on Americans to elect local candidates who will restore abortion rights. Other prominent Democrats like former President Barack Obama, and 2016 candidate Hillary Clinton, also made their dismay known.
