Description

SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE!!! Let Drs. Nii & Renee know what you think about the show! LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE ON: APPLE PODCASTS | GOOGLE PLAY | STITCHER | SPOTIFY On this episode, I’m interviewing Dr. Robert Gore. He’s an Emergency Medicine physician who is fighting to save the lives of young people from violence in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Gore is accomplishing this through his organization called Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI). KAVI is a hospital and school-based youth violence, intervention, prevention and empowerment program targeting teens that have been injured as a result of violence or at risk for violent and recurrent violent injury. If you are looking for the blueprint on how to have an impact on your community this is the episode for you. We talked about the dynamics of being raised in “pre-gentrified” Brooklyn and the effects it had on his career trajectory. I got a chance to meet Dr. Gore while I was a medical student doing a sub-internship at Cook County Hospital. He was impressive then, but to see his impact now…it’s awe-inspiring. Things we talk about in this episode: Having a thought and taking action on it How to handle “NO” and still create change How he convinced the students, teachers, and parents to buy-in How meditation helps him get to that quiet space How he answers #imnotjustadoc   Learn more about KAVI and Dr. Robert Gore CNN Hero www.kavibrooklyn.org IG – @kavibrooklyn History Channel Interview The post 056 – Fighting to save young people from violence in Brooklyn appeared first on DOCS OUTSIDE THE BOX.
