Mike Gold

Let's not start off with a silly joke about how everything Mike touches turns to Gold. Oops, too late. But Mike Gold has had one of the more interesting careers in comics, starting with a stint as DC's first public relations manager in the early 80s. He's perhaps best known for launching First Comics later that decade, featuring a murderer's row of talent, including Frank Brunner, Mike Grell, Howard Chaykin, Joe Staton, Steven Grant, and John Ostrander (some of whom you can hear in previous interviews). And check out these seminal and influential books First churned out: American Flagg, GrimJack, Nexus, Badger, Dreadstar, and Jon Sable Freelance. As if that wasn't enough, Mike returned to DC and edited a whole bunch more amazing titles, like Legends, The Question, Action Comics Weekly, Hawkworld, and the Mike Grell masterpiece, Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters.
