36. Are we still splitting finances 50/50 in relationships?

Is it realistic to be splitting finances 50/50 in relationships these days? And if not, how do we actually bring this up to our partner? We absolutely don't talk about relationship finances enough. With Farah being newly married, and Dev having lived with her partner long-term, we have so many thoughts around this we wanted to share and normalise. Splitting finances down the middle doesn't work for every relationship and doesn't have to work for every relationship: love and trust should be at the core of everything, even our money. And we can't discount unpaid labour, the mental load, and the undocumented costs that go against these that are often done by the women in the household.
