I’m Priyanka Sardana-Gakhar—friends call me Priya—a 29-year-old soccer player from Sydney, Australia. At 22, I earned a scholarship to play NCAA D1 in the U.S. and moved to Louisiana. My life took a sharp turn after a 14-hour flight back to cold Canberra, where I was diagnosed with multiple blood clots in my lungs. As an athlete, it’s easy to dismiss symptoms, and often, others do too. I’m sharing my story to make sure no one else goes through this, and to remind everyone to keep pushing for answers, no matter what.
