Killer or ""CD8"" cell immune responses are crucial for control of intracellular infections and cancer, as they can directly kill virally infected and cancerous cells. Unfortunately, our ability to generate CD8 T cell responses declines substantially with age and this contributes to higher rates of viral infections and cancers in the elderly.
