Morality of Open-Source Hardware

22 Jul 2024

Description

This was a super fun episode, open-source hardware is legally positioned very differently than open-source software, and electronics-as-code blurs the lines- opening up the ability for open-source hardware to leverage the protections of free speech. Basically "free speech" works for text- but not necessarily other assets like models or drawings (think about it: you can write almost anything you want- but you can't draw/share a photo of anything- there are tons of restrictions around that) @mawildoer and Seve explore how electronics-as-code changes the the landscape, and discuss what lines we should draw as a platform that hosts hardware projects.note: I am not a lawyer, and nothing here should be construed as legal advice.
