Today we're reviewing something that is commonly confusing for lots of students. Questions I WILL answer for you today: When using comparative and superlative adjectives, when do you add the 'er'? (bigger) When do you use 'more'? (more beautiful) And do you ever use both? See you next week! Comparative Adjectives - when we are comparing two things, often uses a 'than' in the sentence. If the adjective has one or two syllables then just add ER Big > Bigger Happy > Happier If it has three syllables then add more and NO ER Beautiful > More beautiful Examples: That house is bigger than mine. She is happier than her sister. That dog is more beautiful than mine. Superlative Adjectives - when considering the a group of things the lowest or highest end of that group. If the adjective has one or two syllables then just add ER Big > Biggest Happy > Happiest If it has three syllables then add more and NO EST Beautiful > Most beautiful Examples: That house is the biggest in this area. She is the happiest person I've ever met! Mine is the most beautiful dog in the world!
