President Trump is criticizing NATO allies for not wanting to get involved, though he's no longer calling for warships. The president says the U.S.
military does not need the help of anyone and never did in the operation against Iran. Despite the fact that we help them so much, we have thousands of soldiers in different countries all over the world, and they don't want to help us. Which is amazing. I mean, amazing.
But President Trump did try to build a coalition to help patrol and secure the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway vital to the oil trade. No countries publicly announced that they would join. Israel's defense minister, Israel Katz, says Ali Larajani, a top Iranian official, was killed in one of those strikes. Larajani was the secretary for Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and he was in the streets of Tehran just on Friday threatening President Trump and the United States.
In a separate strike, the top commander for the besieged forces, Gholam Reza Soleimani, was also killed along with a dozen other top Iranian officials from that wing of the IRGC. The campaigns and the super PACs that support them have spent more than $55 million on ads in the Illinois Senate primary. That is according to Ad Impact, which says this Senate primary is the most expensive in Illinois history. Governor Pritzker reportedly spending even more to support his lieutenant governor, Juliana Stratton, while the Congressional Black Caucus backs Congresswoman Robin Kelly. The Republican Senate hopefuls include former Illinois GOP Chair Don Tracy and lawyer Jeannie Evans. Several House primaries are also on the ballot, along with Republicans hoping to challenge Pritzker.
