Chapter 1: What recent events led to the detainment of individuals in Tucson?
Three people detained. I'm Debra Valentine, Fox News. At least three people are detained following police activity at a home approximately two miles from the Tucson, Arizona home where Nancy Guthrie went missing. Fox's Max Gordon reports from Tucson. individuals have been detained.
It's unclear if these are suspects, but there's two males, and then one of those individuals is one of their mothers. We do know that the FBI is involved in this, and the FBI told the Pima County Sheriff's Department that they don't want them to release any additional information.
We have been waiting for a statement from Pima County Sheriff's Department, and really the best that we were able to get was that there is law enforcement activity in this area and that they're not going to be releasing any further details. Guthrie, the mother of today's show co-host Savannah Guthrie, went missing almost two weeks ago. A partial government shutdown is underway.
Chapter 2: How is the partial government shutdown affecting federal workers?
About 260,000 Fed workers are impacted by the partial federal government shutdown. Democrats on Capitol Hill say they won't pay to fund DHS until ICE reforms are made. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Donald Trump and Republicans have decided that they have zero interest in getting ICE under control.
Dems are calling for ICE agents to wear body cams and use judicial warrants when trying to make an arrest. Some Republicans say those restrictions will kneecap ICE. Democratic Senator John Fetterman says shutting down DHS is a waste of time since ICE already has plenty of money with $75 billion under the big, beautiful bill Congress passed last year. President Trump called regime change in Iran the best thing that could happen. So we're seeing a sharpened tone from the president as he weighs next steps if nuclear negotiations continue to stall. This level of strike readiness adds another layer of pressure onto Tehran. And the president spoke about this move at Fort Bragg during remarks that honored the U.S. soldiers who helped capture Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.
