Chapter 1: What protests are happening across the U.S. regarding ICE?
Anti-ice protest across the country today. I'm Carmen Roberts, Fox News. Hundreds of demonstrations are planned in the U.S. for what protesters are calling ice out everywhere. And that includes in Minneapolis, where the fatal shooting of two U.S. citizens ignited massive protest. Fox's Brooke Taylor is there with details.
About two to three hundred of these protesters showed up to this so-called ice out with the usual signs there and ice chants. Now, these protesters, they're fighting to get ICE out of Minnesota, but a big update. A Biden-appointed district judge here today ruled that officers, they can continue to enforce immigration laws.
So the judge denied a request from Minnesota Attorney General to keep ICE out. Attorney General Bondi posted on X celebrating this win. She said, quote, neither sanctuary policies nor meritless litigation will stop the Trump administration from enforcing federal law in Minnesota. A nor'easter is plowing through the Carolinas and Virginia.
Chapter 2: What recent developments occurred in the Minneapolis ICE protests?
A lot of good forcing for heavy snow, and that's now edging right out of Greenville into the Piedmont of North Carolina. That's why we're starting to see these snowfall totals pick up, and this is just phase number one. This eventually will transfer its energy offshore. but that's not going to be until late this afternoon to the evening hours. So we're in it now with heavy bouts of snow.
Winds have been starting to pick up. Some of these areas might get blizzard-like conditions. Even around the Piedmont, if we see the winds cranking over 35 miles per hour, the visibility is going to start to drop. Drifting snow, that's going to be an issue also, but it's already starting to pile up. Fox Weather's Bob Van Dylen in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Israeli strikes in Gaza killed at least 30 Palestinians today, marking one of the highest tolls since the October ceasefire began. Hospitals in Gaza say several children are among the dead, and the strikes come one day after Israel accused Hamas of new ceasefire violations. America's listening to Fox News. A partial government shutdown started just after midnight and will last until at least Monday when House members return to vote on the Senate bills. Fox's Chad Pergram has more from Capitol Hill.
That's because the Senate changed what the House passed last week. The Senate approved five spending bills, but Democrats insisted on holding up the DHS bill.
Chapter 4: What is the current situation regarding the government shutdown?
They wanted changes at ICE. The Senate broke off the DHS bill and sent the rest of the package back to the House. That triggers a shutdown until at least Monday night. Now, House Speaker Mike Johnson implored Republicans to vote yes on Monday. That would end the shutdown after 70 hours. But DHS is only funded for two weeks.
And ahead of the midterms, both parties are trying to figure out what issues appeal to voters. This includes the recent fatal shootings in Minneapolis by ICE officers. And former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg tells Fox News what he believes is on top of Americans' minds.
Chapter 5: What issues are influencing voter sentiment ahead of the midterms?
Those are the kinds of things that, as painful as they are, can actually bring together a lot of Americans to say, hey, we need a different direction. Or even if you do usually vote Republican, we need some balance in our government so that you've got a Congress that isn't just a rubber stamp, that can exercise some oversight over an administration that's gotten out of control.
A federal judge orders ICE to release a five-year-old boy and his father from a Texas detention center where they were taken after being detained in a Minneapolis suburb last month. Images of Liam Conejo Ramos with a bunny hat and a Spider-Man backpack being surrounded by ICE agents sparked even more outcry about the Trump administration's crackdown in Minnesota.
Also led to protests at the family detention center and a visit by two Democratic members of Congress.
Chapter 6: What recent judicial decisions have impacted ICE detentions in Texas?
