Chapter 1: What recent events are impacting Iran-Israel relations?

The map. for alerts runs the entirety of central Israel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. And this is an indication that there may be more than one launch happening at this moment.
Iran also launching more drones in Mideast neighbors. One landing near the U.S. consulate in Dubai. The U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia also coming under attack. But Secretary of State Marco Rubio says personnel at diplomatic sites had been drawn down before the fighting. The State Department is working to evacuate hundreds of U.S. citizens.
About 9,000 Americans have been able to leave the Middle East since the start of airstrikes on Saturday, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio says there are 1,500 more looking for assistance to get out.
The impediment we're facing now in many cases, we've had a couple instances in which we have planes in the air and on the way, and unfortunately the airspace gets closed and they have to turn back around, so we're working through those challenges.
Rubio is urging all Americans in the region to register with the State Department so they can be notified when options open up, including commercial, charter, and military flights. Fox's Jared Halpern at the White House. Rubio was one of several top officials giving closed-door briefings on Iran to the full House and Senate today.
Well, I think it was clearly a preemptive strike, and I think there was an imminent threat there. Senate Majority Leader John Thune says American assets in the region were under threat from Iranian missiles and that the president had authority to strike. But some lawmakers are pushing for a war powers vote to limit further action without congressional approval.
President Trump telling reporters he believes Iran was preparing to attack. Based on the way the negotiation was going, I think they were going to attack first. And I didn't want that to happen. The National Transportation Safety Board says since the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the Austin Independent School District has reported multiple incidents of Waymo's self-driving vehicles passing school buses that are stopped to load and unload student passengers.
Waymo issued a software recall last year to address the issue, but the NTSB's preliminary report explains the reports include a January 12th incident, noting failure to stop for a school bus, displaying visual stop signals as a violation of the Texas Transportation Code. Fox's Kristen Goodwin, Waymo has previously called the probe a chance to provide insights on their safety-first approach.
