The National Transportation Safety Board says since the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the Austin Independent School District has reported multiple incidents of Waymo's self-driving vehicles passing school buses that are stopped to load and unload student passengers.

Waymo issued a software recall last year to address the issue, but the NTSB's preliminary report explains the reports include a January 12th incident, noting failure to stop for a school bus, displaying visual stop signals as a violation of the Texas Transportation Code.
