You need such an extremely cold air mass to turn up some gulf effect snow bands. Just enough energy to get some flakes flying. Fifteen reports as far south as Fort Myers. Myers. Now, none of this snow stuck to the ground.
It is continuing to sink south. Daytona Beach, record morning low at 23 degrees, smashed the old record to the 1930s. We had an observed morning low of 35 degrees in Miami, the coldest temperature in 16 years. Well, we could get down to 35 yet again. Communities across Florida are under extreme cold and freeze warnings.
The weather affecting air travel with more than 1,800 cancellations, more than 20,000 delays today, according to FlightAware. It's the House's turn to vote after the Senate passed a bill to fund the government. A partial shutdown is underway after a dispute on Department of Homeland Security funding in the aftermath of Alex Preddy's death. He was shot by Border Patrol agents last month.
