Girl, Take the Lead!

170. Species Loneliness: Understanding Our Need for Animal Connections – Insights from Richard Louv’s book, Our Wild Calling.

20 Jun 2024

Description

This is a Girl Take the Lead Sound Bite – which is a shorter episode which is a bit more about the topic in our most recent episode.  After hearing Suparna Vashisht talk about sea turtles and coyotes previously, I knew I wanted to learn a bit more about how we connect with animals. So I found a book, Our Wild Calling, How connecting with animals can transform our lives – and save theirs by Richard Louv. One of the book reviews said that it offers hope. While this review and title of the book were wonderful, what really got me was the most amazing wolf picture on the front cover – I’m telling you that just pulled me right in – I felt connected to the golden eyes and sweet face of that wolf! Similar to the different causes Suparna mentioned, this book makes a case for protecting, promoting, and creating a sustainable and shared habitat for all creatures – not out of fear, but out of love.   Mentioned in the Episode:   richardlouv.com Our Wild Calling – How connecting with animals can transform our lives – and save theirs by Richard Louv     More About Richard Louv:  Louv has written for the New York Times, Outside, Orion, Sierra, and many other publications.
