Chapter 3: What insights does Randip Janda provide about the Canucks' roster?
That's right. Like, they were expecting a change-up, and then, so I threw a change-up to that. No, I didn't, because they were like, okay, well, he's going to throw a change-up, just change-up, change-up, and then I threw up a change-up on top of that.
Most pitchers don't know you can take something off an off-speed pitch, but he proved that you could. Yeah, it was really good.
Chilling started crying in the crowd.
Let's go down. I've never seen a ball that moves so slow. Why is that old man so weak? Let's go now.
to the able auctions hotline our next guest is a presentation of bells and whistles randy janda joins us here on the halford and breath show on sportsnet 650 what up randy good morning boys i have to say throwing the first pitch is like a career goal of mine so jason i can't believe you did that good for you it doesn't matter as long as you got it over the plate it could have been like i didn't say i got it over the plate but yeah oh you didn't it was pretty high actually you're inferring
My bad. As long as you don't do the 50 cent. That was what we actually talked about it prior to. Whatever you do, do not replicate the 50 cent.
Who's the new quarterback of the Dolphins?
I don't know.
Oh, Malik Willis. Malik Willis is really bad. Oh, that was so bad. You reminded me. I tried to wipe that out of my memory.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Filip Hronik's future with the Canucks?
but it may not be the truth.
Yeah. I, I, I also do think though that this group has talked so much about culture, culture, culture, culture, and that's the start, right? You, you have a different, um, environment and the culture needs to get changed first. And maybe, you know, we should just take these reports at their word and,
they like what Peronic brings to the room they liked his attitude down the stretch when things apparently the culture in the room got a little bit better he's willing to buy into the plan you know maybe they just think that is more important than extract extracting every little bit of asset value out of this veteran group
Well, one area that they talked about at the introductory press conference, even the owner of the team talked about it in his statement as well, was just being a team that is, you know, you're going through a rebuild, but you're going to play hard every single night. There's going to be a compete. And Philip Roenick brings that, right?
Like we saw, you know, when he was playing with Quinn Hughes, there was a point production. But if you look away from the puck as well, he's competing, he's fighting in the corners, he's battling in front of the net. And one of the things we talked about a couple of weeks ago, guys, was insulin.
in young guys and making sure that there's a level or a standard there that they're able to, A, you know, there's veteran players that are able to help them out, but also show them how things are done at a high level. I'm not talking about a depth defenseman on a third pair. I'm talking about a defenseman on the top pair, you know, that might be able to show them the way. So,
That could be something that this regime looks at and says, hey, we've got some good players like Marcus Pedersen, but he's more of a 3-4 at this point. We've got some other young defensemen coming up, and there might be a veteran gap at the high end where you want him playing next to Zeeb William. So if that's your case, I can understand that, but He's got a price.
I like having that competitive factor. I like having a high-skilled guy. Philip Roenick is. He's made some unbelievable plays over the last few years, shown his vision in passing as well. But in this league, especially at the right shot defenseman role, there is a price.
at some point you got to say, we love this guy, but if you're getting a, you know, a King's ransom coming back the other way, you have to at least consider it.

Chapter 5: How does the management's strategy impact the Canucks' rebuild?
So knowing how management teams work, you know, that will be something that they have to address. Either you get a defenseman back in a deal, maybe that can play that role for a year or two. Maybe it helps out with salaries. But, you know, you need players in that lineup that can fulfill that role to a certain extent as well, whether that's free agency or a trade.
Okay, before we let you go, tell us about your buddies at Bells and Whistles. All right, so I'm going to be there a little bit later on today. I'm going to try to make that kickoff, but it is the place to watch live sports in the city. It's Canada versus Switzerland. Come watch at Bells and Whistles today.
You can also book in if there are tables available right now, so go check it online, bellsandwhistlesydr.ca. 3296 Fraser Street, right in the Fraser Hood. The best place to watch sports in the city, and the sound will be on. So I hope to see you, all the listeners out there, and we ran into some Halford and Brock listeners in the past. So swing by, say hello, and watch the match there.
Randeep, have a good time today, man. It's going to be a lot of fun.
Cheers, boys. Have a good one. Thanks. That's Randy Janda here on the Halford and Brough Show on Sportsnet 650. As mentioned, a presentation of bells and whistles. So you're going to FanFest today, correct? At P&E. I'm going to the match. I've heard anecdotally and seen video. You know what looks like a great place to watch a game is the shipyards out in North Van.
Yeah, I want to check that out. Yeah, that might be my next. That's Canada House, right? That's correct. So they've got an ice rink there. Is it on top of the ice rink?
It looks like it, yeah.
I don't think the ice rink would have much of a chance in this weather.
No, it's probably not going to hold up too well. Yesterday, there was video coming around from the match that's on our TV right now. The Columbia Democratic Republic of Congo match. There was tons of Colombian fans in the shipyards yesterday. It looks like a great atmosphere.

Chapter 6: What lessons did the hosts learn from recent trades in the NHL?
You know what they can get now? They can get a center back in return.
This market's so rich.
Chaitin and Suri, what we learned the same. Jim Rutherford's sitting there. He's like, I knew if I just waited a little longer. I knew it. Just waited a little longer. Yeah, Patrick Alvino's like, oh, now there's centers available. What we learned, the St. Louis Blues finished 28 points ahead of the Canucks and have four first-round picks this Friday.
I cannot wrap my head around Hronik not being shopped if reports are true on that. This is the first... Me neither, brother. Preach on. We're going to keep doing it. This is the first... If Frank's report is accurate... This is the first time that the fan consensus will go against what management is saying.
I know there's been some criticism of the team in the wake of the house cleaning, but it's kind of been nitpicky. It was a drance. But I think certainly our show, and I think it's been reflected in the comments to the inbox, and they're like, yeah, we like what we've heard so far. And a lot of it is because it was... essentially a condemnation or an indictment of the previous regime.
Well, I was going to say, it's kind of ironic that Rutherford's no longer here because this is the exact kind of market where you kind of miss him because he just pulls so many trades so quickly, like the trigger finger.
Yeah. Steve from Burnaby, what we learned, trade Heronic will be this generation's trade Tanev. Yeah. One of our best trade chips that gets realized... Too late.
The TTC, remember the Trade Tanev Club?
Yeah, I started it. Yeah. Okay, so this is from Mark, the former Anasys Island tax guy.

Chapter 7: How does the current trade market affect the Canucks' decisions?
We're going to try and... Here's a very high upside guy who's 22 years old and might have just had a relationship in New Jersey that just got off on the wrong foot and never got better. Then he's RFA, so there's a decision to make there.
Chicago is the much more concerning one in terms of stepping on the gas because not only did they give up the fourth overall pick to get Byram in the door... They're also going to have to pay him right away. And if he's miscast as a one and they pay him as a one, the ramifications down the road could be massive. Also, I will remind you, this team stinks.
They improved last year and had 72 points and were so bad that they had the fourth overall pick. I think it's putting a lot of pressure on Byram to step in and say, congratulations, you're our number one defenseman. We want to make a noted improvement in the standings. It's a lot of responsibility for a guy that's never done it.
Seth Jones didn't thrive. He was miscast as a one. Yeah. It's really, really tough when you're miscast as a one. It happened to Darnell Nurse in Edmonton before Bouchard. And it happened to Morgan Riley in Toronto. And it happened before in Toronto to Dion Phaneuf, by the way.
I think that is one of the most criticized positions in hockey is the number one defenseman who's not really a number one. Yeah, you're masquerading as one. Think of all the criticism that Alex Edler got in Vancouver. He was a terrific defenseman. He made some boneheaded plays, for sure. But he was a really good defenseman. But he couldn't control the game.
And that's what these number one defensemen do. Do you control the game? When you're on the ice, are you in control of what's happening out there? And I remember, you know where I got that from? I mean, it's not exactly rocket science, but it was when Bo Meester got traded from Florida to Calgary. And it was Dennis Potvin.
the former, definitely a number one defenseman, who I think was a color guy for Florida. And that's what he said about Bollmeister. He's like, he's a good defenseman. I don't know if he can control a game though. And Bollmeister was a terrific defenseman, you know, played for Team Canada, but never was that number one guy.
I also want to point out that every potential disaster move that Chicago makes, big picture, it's fantastic because it drives Conor Bernard that much closer to Vancouver.
I mean, we're all looking to see what about the contract that he signs. I don't want anything in Chicago to work out.

Chapter 8: What are the key factors influencing Brock Besser's potential trade?
Yeah. Especially when there are players to be moved.
It's not a true rebuild, though. The Canucks don't even talk to Ronak about a trade. Like, that's, I agree with the texture there. Like, it's like, it is not. But patience, Adon. I know, but if Roddick says I don't want to go, then it's a non-starter and we can move on. But I'm just saying, if they don't even explore that opportunity with the market the way it is right now, he's your best asset.
But patience. You've got to at least try.
Patience. We've got to wait.
No, do it now.
Okay. Rob and Suri, what we learned, what I've learned is the time between the Stanley Cup being awarded and the entry draft is the new trade deadline. Kinda. I mean, I hope Friday during the draft is busy too. I hope there are some trades in the top 10. Sure. Like, this guy picks this guy, this guy picks this guy. Okay. Now we know for sure.
And then, all right, well, you know, I guess, I mean, wait a minute. Buffalo's got the fourth overall pick now, right? It's already switched up. I'll tell you what looks grim right now.
July 1.
Well, it's always looked grim.
