Fitness culture and diet culture really go hand-in-hand, both disconnect us from our bodies and our inner wisdom. Remember the Tumblr days? Yup. *big eye roll* there! Even if you weren’t hanging out on Tumblr, you’ve probably heard the phrases surrounding exercise like: “No pain, no gain.” “The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen.” “No excuses.” or “You have to earn your body.” These phrases aren’t really motivational, they’re filled with shame. In this episode, our guest Zabrina Motwani and I bust these exercise myths and help you see how fitness culture may have influenced your view of exercise. We cover what body neutral fitness is, how to start enjoying movement again after a broken relationship with exercise, listening to your body instead of the “shoulds,” and more! Guest Bio: Zabrina is a body neutral personal trainer and group fitness instructor. She lives in Denver, CO, she’s half Indian, half Peruvian and grew up in Ecuador. She quit her corporate job (as a social media manager at a marketing agency) because she knew that she wanted to create a space free from diet culture, where folks could explore joyful movement without the pressure to change their bodies. She absolutely LOVES what she does, and it makes her so happy to help folks implement movement into their lives from a different lens than mainstream fitness! Strength training and dancing are her favorite forms of movement.
