Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 18.979

Hey there, it's Kim. Of course, after today's Daily Tech Update, this is amazing. I'm going to share with you this week's Saturday Steals. It's just some of my favorite finds that will make life a little smarter, easier, and tech ahead, all at a great price. I've always had a soft spot for United Airlines. My dad worked for United all his professional life.

And so the news of United and passenger headphones instantly caught my attention. Okay, this scenario is all too familiar. After rushing to the airport, passing through TSA like cattle, making a mad dash to the gate, you find that the aircraft is packed. Shortly after takeoff, some ill-mannered, badly raised boob begins watching a video or playing a game on their phone without using headphones.

United's had enough. Effective immediately, United added to the fine print of each ticket that refusing to use headphones and filling the cabin With unwelcome and disturbing music or other audio, that passenger can be kicked off the flight or arrested at the destination. Congrats, United!

I've been using Raycon's Everyday Earbuds Classic, and they've become my daily go-to. The active noise cancellation blocks out background noise so I can concentrate on my calls, music, or podcasts. and the sound is crisp and clear. They've also added smart upgrades. Multipoint connectivity lets me pair with two devices at once.

The ergonomic fit is comfortable and stays put, no matter what I'm doing. And I'm loving the cool mint color. It's fresh. Nice change from basic black or white. Battery life is strong, up to 32 hours, and a quick 10-minute charge gives me 90 minutes of playtime. I also use awareness mode when I'm out walking my dog so I can hear everything around me.

Chapter 3: How has United Airlines' new policy affected passengers?

157.215 - 178.419

It's 46% off, only $27. It has over 125,000 five-star reviews. I love this thing. You toss your veggies in, you press the lid, done, and then you can swap the blade to slice or spiralize. Next, an electric jar opener, $28. So if you've ever handed a jar for somebody else to open and then they hand it right back, this one's for you.

178.699 - 203.449

You just set it on top, hit the button, the lid comes right off like that. And last up, stove gap covers. These are really essential. $20 for a two-pack. These are 33% off. So you know that gap between your stove and the counter where the crumbs go to live forever? These block it and even works for washers and dryers too. So three problems, three solutions, all under $30. Links at WTOP.com.

A lot of things are tracking us these days. Our printer is doing that too. Yeah, this is pretty wild. It's actually been doing it since the 1980s, but now it's getting a lot of attention. They're called machine identification codes. Yeah, pretty techie. Every color laser printer from, say, Xerox, Canon, HP, Epson, Brother, it prints them every page, every time.

0

224.982 - 237.178

The dots are roughly one-tenth of a millimeter wide, and they're yellow on white, so pretty invisible to the naked eye. But what it does is it encodes your printer's serial number, the exact date, and the exact time that you hit it. print.

0

238.079 - 261.241

Where this gets serious is that an NSA contractor by the name of Reality Winner printed a classified document about a Russian election interference and mailed it to a news outlet. Well, the outlet published the scanned pages. Security researchers then inverted the colors and decoded the dots, and they found out that it was a printer model 54, the serial number.

261.822 - 283.232

It was printed on May 9th, 2017 at 6.20 in the The NSA matched it to their logs, and so basically her printer testified against her, and she got five years. So anybody sending anything... can be tracked to maybe not their printer, but a printer, yes? That's correct.

283.552 - 302.215

And if you want to see it, just grab something that you printed in color, and then you shine a blue LED flashlight on it, and then you're going to see some tiny yellow dots in a grid pattern across the whole page. Your printer put them there without asking, without telling you, ever. So you might be saying, like, well, is this just color laser printers?

302.195 - 324.38

You know, some color inkjet printers may include tracking features too, although it hasn't really been documented. So the bottom line here is that if you're printing something super sensitive, a black and white laser printer is your safest bet. A color inkjet or just an inkjet is probably fine, but probably is the operative word in that sentence.

324.4 - 349.96

But the thing that's definitely documented and proven is that a color laser printer will definitely put some tracking dots on those documents. And my brain's going in 15 different directions, but if you print it and then copy it, Will that solve the puzzle or no? That's hard to say. I wouldn't count on it because depending upon the quality of the copy, you may get those yellow dots. Got it.

Chapter 4: What are the benefits of using Raycon's Everyday Earbuds?

414.701 - 434.684

The average buyer overpays by $3,200 on a new car. Not because we're not smart, but because the dealership does this every single day, and on average, we do it once every six years. So AI can totally level the playing field. I'm in the market for a new car, so I really was banking on AI to help me, and it really has.

0

435.064 - 455.693

So you use a prompt in your favorite chatbot, whether it's Grok, ChatGPT, Claw, Gemini, you name it. And say, you know, I'm buying a car, year, make, model, in whatever city, and I want you to be my car buying coach. And that's super important. You always want to tell AI to have a role in your life. So what you're going to ask for is the dealer invoice price versus the MSRP.

0

455.673 - 477.242

Any current manufacturer incentives, rebates, special financing, any add-ons that the dealers are going to try to push the hardest. You can also ask for a negotiation script, and it will tell you some two fallback options if they say no. And then the question you should always ask before you even sit down, whether this dealer will even negotiate.

0

477.222 - 501.103

So what you're going to get, which is really amazing because I got it, is that there's something called a holdback, which is money the manufacturer pays back to the dealer after the sale. So it could be up to 3% of an MSRP that nobody really ever asks about. But if you're looking at a truck that's, say, $55,000, that's up to maybe $1,600, $1,700 in padding that the dealer will never volunteer.

0

501.421 - 518.863

I assume that no matter what numbers you put together, you're probably going to have to go to two or three places to get the deal you're looking for. That's correct. But I will tell you, when you mentioned holdback by name, the salesperson that I talked to looked at me like, what? How did you even know about that?

519.644 - 541.84

And when I ran the prompt for my situation, in about 30 seconds, I had the invoice price, two current forward incentives that I didn't even hear about or advertise, and then also a script, which I didn't need. But when they try to push the paint protection package, spoiler, you don't want to get that. A little insider buying. That is fantastic.

542.24 - 564.543

Anything else that people should know when looking for a new car? Now's a good time to buy 2025 models. That's what I found out because the 2026s are coming right out. And so they're offering a lot of deals to just get those old cars, now old cars, off the lot. Hey, if you love staying tech ahead, then you're going to love, love, love. I'm talking about my free newsletter called The Current.
