Chapter 1: What underground market is reshaping app-based work?
When I looked at all my subscriptions, I couldn't believe how many I was paying for and not using. Streaming services, apps, memberships, it adds up. That's why I use and recommend Rocket Money. It's a personal finance app that finds and cancels unwanted subscriptions, tracks your spending, and helps lower your bills so you can grow your savings. The best part?
You can cancel subscriptions right inside the app with just a few taps. No awkward phone calls or hunting for passwords. With Rocket Money, all your accounts are in one dashboard. Your checking, savings, loans, and investments are all there, so you can see your entire financial picture at a glance.
It organizes every transaction automatically, sets budgets, sends real-time alerts for big charges, and gives you easy-to-read reports. Hey there, it's Kim, of course. Right after today's Daily Tech Update, I'm going to have a special surprise for you. It's a clip from my other podcast. It's called The Current. It's packed with great tech news that you expect, just a little bit more relaxed. I think you're really going to love it. Just think of it as your tech coffee break.
If you're like me, you use Uber, DoorDash, Instacart, or any other similar service. Now, you have to know there's a 50-50 chance that the person who's driving you or delivers food right to your front door may not have been subjected to any kind of background check. They could have a criminal record, a DUI conviction, or even be on probation, no matter what the gig economy companies claim.
I'm Kim Commando for NetSuite. AI is changing the world and companies using it have the advantage. Download the free business guide, Demystifying AI Right Now, at netsuite.com slash kim. Even though it's against company policy, TransUnion, the credit score and research company, finds that about 45% of the gig economy drivers sell access to their apps. Think about that.
The person who is vetted to drive you, deliver your food, has not been properly checked out. Drivers could be dangerous. So use Uber's safety features if you're in an Uber and never, ever let delivery drivers into your home or open the front door to greet them. Get my newsletter at GetKim.com. You don't want to miss this. I'm going to play a bite-sized sample of The Current.
It's my other podcast where we dive into all things tech, trends, and life online. I think you're really going to love it. Have you seen those free phone on us offers from the big wireless companies? I know, they sound great. I mean, who wouldn't love a free iPhone or Android? But here's the truth. You know deep down those so-called free phones are almost never free.
Big carriers stretch the cost of the phone over time with tiny monthly credits, and those only apply if you stay locked into their plan. If you ever want to switch phones or get a new carrier, you're stuck paying off that balance. That free phone ends up costing you your freedom and more money. Consumer cellular, they don't play games. What you see is what you get, and it's amazing.

Chapter 2: How are safety and accountability concerns raised in gig economy services?
I can get full access to your phone for $200?
Yeah, you know, I left you a charging cable. Oh, I've already been using it for about an hour now. Yes. So you really, gosh, it's just so nutso that you have to be so careful.
Everywhere you look, they're trying to steal you. They are.
And they tried to find the hacker. But he ran somewhere. Ransom, get it? Ransomware. Oh, yes. I'm on a roll today, baby. Because after all, I'm Kim Commando, America's digital goddess, trademarked, of course. And then joining me is my co-host, Andrew Babinski, who's also the co-host of The Morning Show on KEZ 99.9 FM.
Chapter 3: What hidden risks do gig economy drivers pose to consumers?
Hi. So it's been a while since we've done this podcast. Yeah. Holidays are over. Back to the grind. I know. And I bought you your Christmas present. I saw that. Okay.
Chapter 4: How is AI influencing the gig economy and app-based work?
Now, I will admit that I didn't wrap it. I don't know where the bag came from. Panaria Luminor? I don't know. I think it's a really expensive watch, which we don't have. Oh, it's a watch? No. But no, the bag is.
Chapter 5: What percentage of gig economy drivers sell access to their apps?
Oh. Okay. Well, you did tie it on the top here so that it was secure.
Okay.
And I went through a lot of thought for this. Okay.
Do you want me to open it up now? Yes. All right. Oh, my goodness. It's a Manchester City license plate cover. I love that. Thank you so much. Now, which sport is this? Football. Well, no. Soccer. It's soccer.
Chapter 6: What safety measures should you use when taking rideshare services?
Well, it's football. Football. Football. Is there more in here? Yeah, it's just one other thing. What is in here also? No way. I've never had one of these. You've never really? No. You were expecting a gag gift. I was. You see? This is legitimately awesome. See? Man U. Or Man City. Oh, I dropped it. Yeah, Man City. We have the new microphones, and of course I dropped something.
Do you remember when I... Go ahead and film while I put this on. Do you remember when I asked you, I said, so, like, which Manchester United? Just out of nowhere you asked me that. United or the other one? City? City. Oh, yeah.
Oh, that's sleek right there. See? I love that. Thank you so much. You're welcome. What'd you get me? Well, my first topic on the show is... about gifts that is so nice thank you you're very welcome what is it uh january 15th 14th it's close finally it's close i have a bottle of wine for you so i'll bring it for you as well what you mean
What makes you think like I would like a bottle of wine? Oh, your history?
Every story I hear from your husband?
Oh, I can pull from anywhere. Oh my gosh. You know, don't even, well, we're not going to talk, but this is like a whole nother story. This is my experience with ordering online from Total Wine & More. Okay. I ordered a case of Rumbauer Chardonnay. Okay. A case, how many bottles are in a case? 12. So a good weekend, all right?
Yes.
And so this case comes and I'm like, I'm picking up, I'm like, wow, this is really heavy. Cause you know, I just had him like drop it. It's 12 bottles of wine. No, there were only six bottles in there because Mr. Braintrust, Total Wine & More Instacart shopper, bought like the big liter bottles.
Is it the same amount of wine just in these jugs? Yes, in jugs. You can start a band. Barry can play the saw. You can play the jug. And then Barry goes, wow, what'd you order those for? I'm like, I didn't order these. They're not going to fit in the wine cooler. They don't.
