Chapter 1: What are the latest details about Ghost of Yotei's non-linear campaign?
The benefits of the window seat, you can lean against the wall. The benefits of the right seat or the aisle seat, you can get up whenever you want. The middle, it's always like, what could be the benefit here? And there's not really one.
There's no benefit. It's like one of those things where you have to rebalance the game a little bit. I should get an extra snack if I'm in the middle seat. I don't mind that. Yeah. Like, I should get something for being in the middle seat.
I think you do get the armrests. Or you get, like... You have prior... Or, like... I don't know what the internet's really kind of agreed on of what the benefit is. Oh, dude.
I was bumping... But I think you maybe get both. I was bumping elbows the entire time with the people next to me. Like, I was fighting for that armrest.
It was a battle. When I'm window seat, I know the person in the middle is struggling. I'm not going to put my arm up there unless... If your arm is up there, I'm not going to fight you for this. It's yours.
Yeah.
You take this. I'm going to lean against the window.
Oh, man.

Chapter 2: How does Ghost of Yotei compare to other open-world games like Breath of the Wild and Assassin's Creed?
That's probably for the best. Because, you know, Nick Scarpino in Marathon is already tough enough, and that's a game that kind of tells you what to do step by step. When a game is as obtuse as Escape from Tarkov, and it's not holding your hand, and Nick's in it, I just, God bless Mike for even wanting to take on that challenge. Did we ever go back to Pokemon?
Mike has decided that... That's a great question from the Twitch chat. Mike has decided that Pokemon will happen on his birthday. That will be the final Pokemon stream.
When is his birthday?
I don't remember. May something. If you're a kind of funny member, The Greg Way is all about video game franchises or ongoing games he'd want to deep dive on alongside the devs, like the ESO podcast we're currently doing. Thank you to our Patreon producers, Anatoly Ast, Delaney Twining, Carl Jacobs, and Omega Buster.
Today we're brought to you by Imperial and Aura Frames, but we'll tell you about that later. For now, let's begin what is and forever will be the Roper Report.
It's time for some news!
We have six stories today.
A baker's dozen.
Story number one. Sucker Punch shares new Ghost of Yotei details as the game's nonlinear campaign is explained. This comes from the homie Jordan Middler at VGC. Now, we talked all about Ghost of Yotei and what our dreams and wishes could be. And this is a bit more of a deep dive into this article. Yep. by Jordan Miller at VGC. So everybody go check out that article.

Chapter 3: What are the new combat and storytelling features in Ghost of Yotei?
And I think I'm just so blown away by that closeup of Erica. She's face. how amazing the detail looks, how great the facial motion capture is. And man, it's just, it's so exciting because when you boot up Ghost of Tsushima now, it looks still so stunning. It looks incredible. And then you just realize, oh shit, we're getting a sequel on the next generation of hardware.
How can they push this hardware? What will the PS5 Pro be able to do that the normal PS5 wouldn't? How are those enhancements going to be? I'm just so pumped up for this world. I'm pumped up for,
mainly not only the story, the presentation, and all of that extra added detail that makes it a truly special experience, but I'm also stoked for the different weapons and not just... I was kind of comparing it to what Jedi Fallen Order did to Jedi Survivor, where suddenly you have... a lot of different sort of lightsaber variations.
And here, not only is it the, the, you know, standard katana, but you also have that one weapon, uh, with the chains and the little, uh, spiky thing at the end of it.
I'm going to, is that a kunai?
No, I said that. I was like, I always think that's a kunai, but it's a, it's a yoyo. I said it in the last, a chat will correct me right here. It's, Kurasagi. No, Kurasigama is what Titan Meteor says. Yeah, that's definitely what the word was in the article. Super pumped about this, man. I don't know how anybody can't be if you were a fan of Tsushima at all.
And I just love whenever the studio, whenever any studio makes an awesome first iteration, you always know the second one is going to have that lessons learned moment of how are they going to sort of make this a bit more special, you know, sort of
I like that. I feel like even though you can make the argument that, all right, cool, we're getting more Ghost of Tsushima. It's Ghost of Tsushima again. I do like that Sucker Punch is iterating. And I think they're still taking a ballsy approach because it's not Jin Sakai, right? We have a new main character. We have a new time period with this one, which is big.
But then also, one of the things that I remember talking about quite a bit with Ghost of Tsushima is as much as...

Chapter 4: Who are the Yotei Six and how does their order affect gameplay?
I would say, like, it... Yotei 6 and all that stuff does remind me of, like, the modern AC presentation of, like, antagonists, and you have a group, and you're going down, like, a checklist of taking them out. I think the biggest challenge is to make...
that engaging in uh story-wise i don't think i've seen it as well done for assassin's creed since origins uh personally um because ever since then like i think the list a lot of those people can be a little like lost in the shuffle maybe not as interesting as others um so we'll have to we'll have to see and see how ghost kind of tackles that yeah i also don't know be just uh in terms of
where they're at as storytellers, because I am only just now getting back to Ghost of Tsushima after five years, so... Yeah, and I'm only, like, five hours in.
Yeah, for me, it's... The concern that I have that is less of a concern and more so a curiosity on how they solve it is the leveling of... Alright, like, so is it gonna be that Yotei... The first of the Yotei... Let's call him Yotei 1. Yotei 1 is gonna be the level 10 boss, and Yotei 3 is gonna be the level 30 boss, right? Or...
Will it scale?
Will it scale? Are you going to Mega Man it where it is? All right, these are all the same level, but it's more about the abilities that you're unlocking with each one that are going to give you the advantage against other ones. She's ice powered. This is your electric.
You bring up the Mega Man, but I do think something that is interesting is Zelda, not Breath of the Wild, but Link Between Worlds. That was very much designed as after you get through the first three dungeons, you're
The last six you can tackle in any sort of order, and they all – it didn't feel like there was scaling in that sense, but everything felt like a similar level of challenge for different reasons. And I think that's a more intriguing way to design an open world that is as free as this.
Rather than doing the Assassin's Creed like, oh, you could technically over here, but it's 30 levels above you, you know? Yeah.

Chapter 5: What is the hype level for Ghost of Yotei among the hosts?
Okay, so don't really care much about this at all. Yeah. These are some titles I will never play. What?
You're not going to play Overwatch 3? No.
You all have phones, don't you? I mean, that is a good point. Why wouldn't you play Overwatch 3? I just... I don't know if this is necessarily going for our market necessarily. I don't know if mobile gaming in this way will ever hit on a level the way it has in every other country ever, it feels like. I just... I don't really see the appeal to mobile gaming in a first-person shooter.
It's never been my sort of thing. It's never been something I've been interested in. But then you look at the numbers of... Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile and all these sort of games.
Although I haven't heard the name Call of Duty Mobile in a minute. Is that still doing its thing?
I mean, for these large-ass companies to want to continue to develop experiences like this, I gotta assume the money's being made somewhere.
Okay, yeah, people in chat are saying, yes, it's doing its thing. That must be one of those ones where it's so successful that it's in another ecosystem.
Yeah, that's exactly where I'm at with it. It really is, to me, in the Roblox area of gaming, where it is so massive, it is just a part of everyday life for a lot of people, but... But I can't imagine that this makes a whole lot of people that are super stoked about StarCraft, who maybe don't listen to games daily, that have been waiting for a new StarCraft in forever.
And I know that there's a first-person shooter somewhere being developed, but for this to be a StarCraft game, but we're kind of giving you the rights, it's the first time we've seen StarCraft in a long time. I can't imagine that makes a whole lot of people happy.

Chapter 7: What are the hosts' opinions on mobile gaming adaptations of popular franchises?
I call that the TikTok game. I'm always seeing that on TikTok. It always pops up as if the game was made six months ago.
When that first popped up, yeah, that was one that would appear on the algorithms. And I didn't know people were actually playing that game.
$2 Supercharged from Jackie M says, AC Shadows looks higher fidelity. AC Shadows looks higher fidelity. Does this matter? AC Shadows looks higher... Then Ghost of Yotei? Probably, um... I don't know.
I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima right now. PS5 version. And that shit... Fucking... Cool. That shit looks beautiful. I can only imagine... Yotei is going to look better.
Yeah, I don't think the characters in Ghost of Yotei or in Assassin's Creed look as good as what we've seen in Ghost of Yotei so far. But the environments, much like the environments in Avatar, Lost Pandora, Islands of the Lost or whatever that game was. Frontiers of Pandora. Frontiers of Pandora. Ubisoft environmental teams, Ubisoft foliage, they fucking kill it.
Oh, you said Frontiers of Pandora.
Frontiers of Pandora.
I thought you just said Tears of Pandora.
No, no, no. Frontiers of Pandora, yeah, yeah. Environmentally, those games are insane. I think that maybe the... Facial capture and all that sort of budget is maybe a little bit lower on the Assassin's Creed games. That's kind of what it looks like to me.

Chapter 8: How do the hosts discuss gaming and pop culture side notes, including mentions of movies like 'Sinners' and 'Twilight'?
three-dimensional puzzle solving cool puzzle solving within the combat that's fucking awesome uh my one beef with it and like with like combat and like i would say character customization specifically is like goddamn do they load you up on the pictos and the lumina the lumina it's so much and i don't know if they if they condense that at all as i go forward or if it just becomes more and more and more but like just more and more
It's a lot. It's a whole lot.
We talked about how overwhelming that system is and could have been. I think that despite... the way that those screens look sometimes, and how when we first saw that game presented, and they showed us that Lumina screen during the developer underscore direct, and I was like, oh my god, I hope some of those are duplicates. Like, what is going on on the screen?
This looks like something I'd stay away from my children, you know? But once you kind of get into the rhythm and start understanding the language a lot more, I think that there will be ways... and future updates where they can kind of help mitigate any issues with that and help make things be a little bit easier to understand.
And I think that they did a decent enough job as it is with the amount of sorting you can do, but they can definitely push it further. I was telling Roger, maybe... The word energizing being like, this is going to give you AP in the game. Or the word whatever is like, oh, that's always going to do this in the video game. But when I see those little words, it just becomes noise.
And I was like, what if the main word in the skill was bolded or italicized or something? Yeah, stuff like that could help. It becomes like a lot of visual noise. Maybe just... color-coded or something like that, that could help things out a bit.
I could also see them even cutting some of that stuff in half, in terms of the amount of stuff going on here.
At the end of the day, though, I was still super excited about getting a new Picto or Lumina Especially one that was really exciting to... Oh, how am I going to involve this? Oh, wow, this super changes the game.
There's some of them where it's like, alright, you get this, but also, you're going to spend way more of this thing. You really have to decide of, do I want to do this playstyle? I think that stuff is cool. The biggest compliment I want to give to the game is...
