Chapter 1: Why did Sony cancel games from Bluepoint and Bend?
Yeah. It gives a nice pop to it. Kevin's killing it out here. Alright, this is all stuff I asked him on the moment right before we went live. Can you do it?
Was? Nur das Shuhei-Ding, oder? Shuhei-Ding, Game of the Year war am Montag.
Ah, klar, klar, klar. Game of the Year.

Chapter 2: What is the significance of the February State of Play?
Natürlich, Top-10-Liste, Game of the Year, du hast das auch da. Oh, ja. Und natürlich, heute ist der Tag.
Stars in the Bank, Game Showdown, Season 3 Premiere. Season 3.
Danke. Du hast einen Charlatan gehabt. A cheater. A bad winner two seasons in a row. But now that I'm starting off strong with Stars in the Bank, I'm confident this one will turn around and we'll have a different outcome.
I want to ask, have you thought about who you're going to cash it on? Tim Gettys. Okay, I was going to say that.
The most inopportune time. You know what I mean? Not only am I looking to wreck my friendship with Tim, I'm probably going to wreck my relationship with Gia. Oh, God. Because this isn't contained in the office. Stars in the Bank can be cashed in anytime, anywhere. And so... A lovemaking session? I'm not afraid to go in there.
A romantic dinner? A funeral? They go on a vacation, they're in Italy, they're like, oh man.
That seems expensive, I don't want to spend the money.
You know I'm pretty cheap.

Chapter 3: What was the reaction to the Until Dawn movie trailer?
If I can get kind of funny to pay for the Italy trip, because I'm interrupting it. And you amigo, you know what I mean? Oh yeah, bring me along.
If I'm cashing it in, you gotta be there. I love that you're like, we could discord him, fuck it, no, we're paying the money, we're flying, bless Italy.
Are we making great content, or are we making subpar content?
We're assholes. But I'm glad you're along for the ride. Me and Nick feel like sometimes we're the only ones who really get it on Tim, but we're all there.
Right, Kevin? I'm sorry. Tim was just in here having a real conversation, work-related, while you guys are just goofing on him. So I'm trying to ignore you guys talking shit in my headphones while he's trying to be like, how do we handle this?
Kevin is talking some shit about Tim right now.
What's your least favorite thing about him? Definitely his balls. Way too big.
Thank you very much.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the unannounced God of War game?
Of course, Astro out being our game of the year. After that, it is the season premiere of game showdown. And again, everybody. I hate to spoil it for you, but I'm gonna win. You guys are one of those where I'm feeling good today.
I'm gonna win.
He's feeling good today.
I'm very excited for this episode. I think this is one that you guys will want to watch live. That's all I'm gonna say. It's a season premiere, so it's always exciting, but like... You got some bit?
No, I don't have some bit. I don't know. Here's the thing I'll say, everybody, alright, is that we put not no effort into, but not a lot of pre-pro into a lot of our things. Games Daily runs itself. Gamescast, we played a week before.
Kind of funny podcast. Games Daily runs itself.
We don't know. I mean, you're building it every day, but you know what I mean. It's like a well-oiled machine. Yeah, okay. Because it's you and you're oiled. Thank you. Nobody knows what the fuck's happening. Game Showdown. You, Roger and Barrett scurry around here like little fucking rats. Roger's getting printing paper delivered. I've seen him doing arts and crafts projects over there.
Don't worry about it. Don't think about it too hard. Let's have a fun day today. Let's have a fun game showdown today.
I'm excited. Again, it's pent up. I've been back, I've done a bunch of stuff. We haven't done a real game showdown. You fucking fed me Nick on the thing. I did. It's like having Mike Tyson go fight a 3-year-old. I just box that kid's ears back.

Chapter 5: How has PlayStation's strategy changed in recent years?
In a memo to staff reviewed by Bloomberg, the company said it's working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to determine what are the next projects and plan to do everything they can to ensure there is minimal business impact. Blessing Adeoye Jr. New York Times, no, New York Game Awards nominated games journalist. Where do you want to begin?
Because there's like three immediate gigantic threads you want to pull on. And I'll let you choose where we're going. Let's choose your own adventure day, Buzz.
I guess the place that I immediately go to when I read this story is I hop back toward the last years of... Honestly, the last five years of this journey of PlayStation, it feels like once I joined Kind of Funny, around that time, maybe like 2021 or so, is when we got the news, like the PlayStation saying that they want to work on these live service things.
We have 10 live service projects in the works, yada, yada, yada. And in the last few years, we've seen so many cancellations. I had sent a tweet to myself. Let me see if I can pull it up. Somebody had tweeted a list of games Hier ist es.
Yeah, I think it might be, you can correct me if I'm wrong, did you have full access to the article or just the opening part of it or whatever? Jason Schreier's Blue Sky about it said, fans have long wondered what Bluepoint was working on for the last couple of years. I can report it was a live service God of War game.
There you go. So yeah, you have the unannounced Lifesavers God of War game from Bluepoint. Then you go on, you have the lastest multiplayer, that was cancelled, right? You have Spider-Man 2 multiplayer, which like, that one I'll give with a asterisk of like, that was never announced. We don't know how far along that was. That could have been just conceptual stuff, right? We don't know.

Chapter 6: What does the future hold for Bluepoint and Bend studios?
When asked if the new business strategy made sense to him, Yoshida replied that the resources were additive rather than replacing investments in single player. However, he also admitted he might have resisted the change in direction and jokingly added that might have been why he was replaced.
Quote, I was managing this annual budget and was responsible to allocate resources to what kind of games to make. If the company was considering that way, it probably wouldn't have made sense to stop making another God of War or whatever, like a great single player game and put all that money into these live service games.
However, what they did after I moved on and with Herman, I'm sorry, when Herman took over, is that they added a lot more resources. I don't think they told him to stop making the single player games. They said, oh yeah, these games are great, continue doing that and we give you additional resources to work on these live service games and try it.
I'm sure they knew it was risky and that the chance of a successful game in this hugely competitive genre would be small. However, the company knowing that risk gave Herman the resources and the chance to try it. I think that's the way they did it. So in my mind I was, oh wow, that's great and hopefully some games will become successful. Luckily Helldivers 2 did so. No one would have expected it.
You cannot plan a success in this industry. That's the most fun part. I thought if I was in the position of Herman, I wouldn't have tried to resist. I would have tried to resist this direction. Maybe that's one of the reasons they removed me. Hahaha. I think there's a lot. I mean, she was joking to a degree, but he is talking about the dollar sense and how PlayStation makes decisions.
And I do think that there's a lot of truth in there. And so now you're left, though, with this reckoning, where... I love Shushu, he's amazing, don't get me wrong.
And I do think what he's talking about, especially when we talk about them making remakes and doing these things of like, that's not taking resources, that's actually making money so they can go make the games you want and try new things, right? I agree that live service push for PlayStation doesn't mean you're not getting games from people. But it does mean that Sony Bend did Days Gone.
It was met with a middling critical reception, a huge fan reception. And rather than giving them another chance to get that really, really right, a single player game, they were stopped there. There's all this hullabaloo and off the record, behind closed doors, stories you've heard of...
Uncharted, we want to do our own thing, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, to end up doing this live service game that is now cancelled again. And you look there and the article I know says, and Jason has quotes from them like, we're not closing these studios. I don't think you ever play another game from Sony Bend. I think Sony Bend is closed before they get another game out.

Chapter 7: What are the challenges facing live service games?
I think this is just a bad concoction overall. Because when I look at the industry, I'm 1000% with you as far as like, damn, everybody's kind of struggling right now.
But I feel like the PlayStation approach to live service has been particularly bad. And I think that is because of Vielleicht ist es nur so, dass alle in diese Richtung gehen.

Chapter 8: How do gamers feel about the shift to multiplayer and live service?
should have came out this generation from PlayStation First Party and the amount of time and resources that were just wasted into cancelled games and games that nobody's asking for. I hope Marathon's fantastic. I hope Fair Games comes out and is really good, right? But it feels like this generation was just the one of distraction for PlayStation.
It's obviously, this all sounds so weird and so loaded and so promotional for the Gamescast I did with Shu, right? But obviously, I adore Shu. He's an incredibly close friend. I love him to death. And that's been over many, many years. Our friendship has grown.
And when so many people listened to that episode and talked about that episode and left comments and tweets and blue skies, thank you again. They were also like, man, it reminds me of the glory, the good old days, the glory days of PlayStation, this, that, the other.
Und ich sage nicht mal, These people are bad. They made wrong decisions.
But it's just like, man, there really is a clear decision here of like, we're going to chase this multiplayer thing. And I really do think, lose the soul of what PlayStation was. And so when you see Intergalactic, I really do hope that is...
a sign of change, a rallying cry for these PlayStation Studios, but more importantly, a rallying cry for PlayStation to sit there and go, alright, we were a bit too vocal asking for live service pitches. We need to just back it off and be like, make games that are great, make cool games, what are your visions? Let's again foster this creativity.
And I know that that sounds so artsy-fartsy, but it can't be so businessy. This is what it leads to when it's businessy. And I mean, PlayStation has always been a business. It has always been a stock price. It talks about how bad it was when PlayStation 3 came out. He's like, oh shit, we're gonna fuck it. What is gonna happen? But the TV brand, part of PlayStation, did so well.
It didn't matter that this did poorly, right? There's an arithmetic and a thing there and a special sauce, whatever. But clearly, whatever the directive was on high... put people into a place that isn't good and put studios into a place that isn't good. And again, that's for me to read the tea leaves, look between the lines and see this.
And we're talking about like, I don't think Sony Bend or Bluepoint were forced to do this. I do think that they heard on high, let's do it. Guys in a room, can we get together? This is important. It's important to the company. It's important. All right, cool. We got an idea. Let's fucking go. And it's like, to your point, what you said of like, you want to shed your studio image.
