Chapter 5: How did Father's Day influence the hosts' discussions?
And this show is sponsored by TJ Smith Law Office. If you call TJ, he'll make them pay. Drew, you were on break last week as well. I saw your Father's Day pictures of you and Avery, your first Father's Day. How did that go? Went well. Traveling with the baby went well. I was a little nervous, but she handled it perfectly. Not even a peep on the airplane either direction. You went to Miami, right?
We did.
We had a great time down there. Did you take Avery out to the clubs and all that stuff on South Beach, or what did you do? You know, we tried, but her fake ID got shut down. Otherwise, a great trip.
Chapter 6: What are the implications of the new NCAA rules on college athletics?
But it continued the tradition of the moment I go on vacation, it is the newsiest day imaginable. So as always, like with Calipari leaving and several other things that happened, the moment I step away is when everything gets moving. It does feel like when I sat down last night to talk topics and to write down what we would talk about, It felt like I could have written 40 down.
I mean, I did keep it at 12. I don't know, Shannon, if people would have thought one of the 12 would be Pope's beard, but I do have that as one of the 12.
You like that beard.
Well, I just like changes, like when you sort of hit 50 and you're like, I'm changing my appearance now, right? We're going beard. But we will do all that. And I have some great stories, including, Shannon, I have to tell you, I had something that made me almost childlike in my excitement happen. And it wasn't just my team winning the Stanley Cup. It was something else.
And you will laugh, but you will laugh in part because you will know how happy it made me that I'm going to tell you later.

Chapter 7: What are the latest developments in the NBA draft?
Okay. All right. Looking forward to hearing that.
But it wasn't the first thing we want to talk about, which is Kentucky hires a new athletic director. Now, I know this happened a number of days ago, so a lot of people probably, you know, think it's old news. But, Drew, we haven't gotten to talk about it because it happened right after we left. Jay Batt. And do we have an official? Are we supposed to call him Jay or Jason? Jay.
Am I calling him a grown man just one letter? Is it Jay? That's what it is. It's Jay Batt. That's what he goes by.
Chapter 8: How does the World Cup affect sports culture in Kentucky?
Drew, is that what you're – we're not saying Jason. It's Jay. Honestly, I didn't even know it was Jason. I just thought his name was Jay. I thought it was pretty unique. He just went with one letter. Did you guys hear the story about why it's Jay? No, I actually didn't. Okay, so it goes back to when he was in third grade, there were two other Jasons, so they just called him Jay.
And you would think that once you moved on to fourth grade, maybe he would just take your name back, but he kept it throughout his entire life. And why did he have to switch? Why didn't the other Jason switch? Somebody would take the fall, so I guess it was Jason or Jay. See, now that makes me a little worried about his confidence going forward. He is the one that had to change his name.
He should have looked at those other kids and said, you're changing your name. I'm Jason. It's got to be one of the shortest names that exists. It couldn't be less short. Including the last name. Five letters. Now, that is true. Bo Nix. Bo Nix, title. That popped in my head.
But you're right.
There's two. But you're right. There's probably not that many people. I can't think of anybody that would have two letters, two letters. It could have been less letters if he hadn't put the extra T on there. He doubled down with the power T. Yeah. He gave a power T. That's right. Well, J-Bad is the athletic director. So I kind of got the news that it was going to happen early Monday morning.
And then, you know, UK called me and said, hey, would you like to – to interview this guy. And I said, sure. So they made, even though it was a vacation, I set up to do my little Zoom and interviewed the guy. And I found him to be I mean, here are my takeaways about him.
First of all, I got a text as soon as his name was being floated around that was from somebody, Drew, who works in college athletics and who works in college athletics at the national level and sort of the administrative level. So this is somebody who, you know, is connected, like, I think has a connection to Kentucky.
It's not Dwayne Peavy, but has a connection to Kentucky, but is not, you know, Kentucky fan-centric. And they said to me, look, this is as good a guy as you all could get. And at this point, I'd never even heard of the guy. This is as good as you can get. Essentially said, if you're talking about modern college athletics, you could not have a guy better suited for it. So, Drew...
Before I'd spoken to him, before I'd heard a word, my optimism had risen at that point. When you first heard his name and were reading things, were you the same way? Same way. I mean, the fact that he had a stop at Alabama. I mean, Michigan State's a big program. And then pretty much anything written about him involves fundraising and getting money, which I think is the top priority these days.
