Chapter 1: What happened in the Minneapolis shooting incident involving an ICE officer?

0.031 - 24.441

Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Corva Coleman. Federal and local officials in Minnesota dispute why an ICE officer shot and killed a woman yesterday in Minneapolis. The Trump administration says the agent acted in self-defense. Videos reviewed by NPR show a different officer demanding the motorist get out of the car and then grabbing the door handle. The SUV reverses, then goes forward.

She says she's feeling numb and disgusted at We're being targeted, and this is not acceptable. An innocent woman, Renee Nicole Good, just got killed for no reason.

Police in Salt Lake City say there's been a deadly shooting in the parking lot of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building. Police Department spokesman Glenn Mills says a funeral was underway inside the Mormon Church building when a dispute escalated outside into gunfire. We know that there are at least eight victims. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has briefed Congress on the U.S. military operation in Venezuela. NPR's Barbara Sprunt reports lawmakers showed a partisan divide on the information as they left the briefing.

135.399 - 152.326

Rubio says he told Congress step one will involve quarantine for Venezuela, which will include selling sanctioned oil and distributing the profits. Step two, recovery, will restore access to the Venezuelan market in a way he described as fair. He did not offer details on how step three, transition, will work.

152.887 - 169.592

Lawmakers have been clamoring for a briefing from the administration, which did not notify Congress until after the military operation concluded. Republican lawmakers left the briefing praising the operation. while Democrats criticized the administration for not being forthright about what these next steps will entail.

Secretary Kennedy described the new guidelines as the most significant reset on nutrition policy in history, calling for an end to policies that promote highly refined foods that are harmful to health. The guidelines will set limits on added sugars and encourage diets that include meat and dairy. Protein and healthy fats are essential and were wrongly discouraged in prior dietary guidelines.
