Well, the Kings of 25-26 have been crowned. The Carolina Hurricanes knock out the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 and win the franchise's second title. Carolina went 16-3. That's the second best record in the 16-win era. Jordan Stahl becomes the oldest player to ever win the Conn Smythe Trophy at 37. And a former Oiler has quietly signed a contract today.
Defenseman Ethan Baer has inked a one-year deal that pays $850,000 with... Oh, well, I didn't write that down. I'll get back to you on that.
But it's a high two-way. Just type up Ethan Baer on Puckpedia. We'll give a shout-out to Hart Levine, and it'll give you the team. Why do I think it's...
It's with the New York Islanders.

Chapter 2: What major events occurred in the NHL during the 2025-2026 season?
With the New York Islanders. Thanks to Kellen Kennedy. I should have wrote that down.
Chapter 3: How did the Carolina Hurricanes achieve their second title?
Two minutes for me.
There you go. Two minutes for not looking good. You can try the Southwestern pizza tonight with chipotle mayo topped with ground beef, Italian sausage, green and banana peppers starting at just $17.95. We've got to try that. I've got to talk to Ryan and get him to drop one off tomorrow here for us. The end of the show. How does that sound? You can visit royalpizza.ca for more details.
Bob Stauffer here. It is a MACT on Monday day for Contract Equipment Canada's premium heavy equipment dealer with rental and sales. All right. So the Canes win the cup. We're happy for Taylor Hall. Yeah, so stoked for Taylor, super happy for Tyler Dello. Heavy analytics-driven team. You know, baseball moved in that fashion a number of years ago.
Chapter 4: What contract did Ethan Baer sign and with which team?
The other is Tim Barnes, who's Washington's analytics guy, director of analytics. He was on a site called Oil Fans back in the day. Tyler Dello wrote on that site. Eric Tulsky, Frank Cervelli telling us in the first hour, wrote on a Flyers fan blog. These guys were all doing this stuff, Mac T, like 15 years ago. Are we going to see?
I mean, that's how you get into organizations. You offer your services for free. Right. And then you grow on the merits of your work.
Do you know who did not offer his services for free when he came to the orders organization? Bob Stauffer? Yes, I did not come for free. Yeah. You weren't too happy, as I recall, were you?
No, no. You came in and I was actually very disappointed and I kind of still am. Not as much. But yeah, it's the old John Muckler line, keep your enemies close to you philosophy that landed you in the current role that you're in. And now, you know, but you work, I'll give you that.
So could you imagine how we're doing events together, like three or four times a year after? No, no, no, no.
Brian Ross right now would be looking down saying... No, I mean, I enjoy doing the events with you. And what I tell the people mostly is it's hard to believe, but I just sit back and I generally listen to you when we do these events.
And when I finally do get the opportunity to say anything, I'll say that, you know, a lot of you aren't going to believe this, but Bob doesn't actually get paid by the word. He's on a contract.
Oh, that's awesome. Keep it coming. They love it. You can text us on the Ashley Fine Floors text line at 780-451-8800. Here's the deal. The league is, you know, Elliott Friedman reporting today the investigation's begun. I would suggest that there's been a significant amount of work probably done beforehand on this as well.
What, you know... Just... Tired of the whole scenario. Already you are, eh? I am, totally. I mean, it's just, is there anything out there? And if there is, let's report it. If there's anything that would preclude him for taking over the Edmonton Oilers, what is it? I mean, there's just all this speculation out there, and there's no real information. I haven't heard.

Chapter 5: What is the significance of analytics in modern NHL coaching?
And, you know, Mike's going to need that. And, I mean, DJ Smith is, you know, I mean, he could coach any team in this league as a head coach, in my opinion. Really? You're that strong about it? Yeah. No, he's got a... You know, tons of experience. He coached, I think, in London with the Hunters.
And then in Oshawa, he won the Memorial Cup in Oshawa, beating Connor McDavid and Leon Dreisettel in the same year. McDavid in the OHL final, and then he beat Dreisettel in the Memorial Cup final. Got to the NHL ahead of Chris Knobloch as an Ottawa head coach, well-known, and a different personality than Babcock as well.
I mean... Well, he's really well connected with the Hunters. I know that in London. And they speak highly of him. He lives in Windsor with Steve Ott and Bugner and all those guys. I mean, this guy, he's excellent.
Is he an NHL caliber head coach? Oh, yeah.
Yeah, he can coach any team in the NHL, in my opinion. No problem putting him in charge.
Just again, the situation is fluid. We've got to see what happens with the NHL, with the investigation. But would it be from a player perspective? I mean, I think we saw they had a pretty quiet staff last year that wasn't really experienced with Chris Knobloch, Paul McFarland, Mark Stewart. Of course, Knobloch and Stewart, they were relieved of their duties.
Knobloch has a three-year extension that hasn't even kicked in, so he's going to be fine. We'll see how quickly he gets back in the mix. I think at some point he gets an opportunity. But I kind of felt that was a pretty quiet staff, maybe without a lot of energy around it at times. Do you have any concerns about that?
I don't know to comment on that. You were around it. But the one thing I know about DJ Smith is he's social, approachable. communicator, and that's going to be important. I mean, I go back to the staff we had when Glenn Sather was a coach. I mean, he was a leader, like he was at the top of the food chain.
Then we had John Muckler, who was technically way advanced to where the game was at that stage. And we had Ted Green, too, that was an unbelievable liaison between the players and the coaching staff. And DJ Smith can do the technical side of it for sure. Babcock's one of the brightest technical guys that I've ever seen and heard speak. I mean, he's a great orator.
