Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
This hour of Overdrive is powered by FanDuel. FanDuel, bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score. All right, here we go. Overdrive off and running. TSN 1050 on the TSN app, your home smart speaker. Up on TSN 4, up on YouTube Live, Brian Hayes, your dog Jeff O'Neill, Jamie Noodles, McLennan. What's going on? What's going on?
How are we feeling on a beautiful Monday here in Toronto? Beautiful, yeah. Beautiful. Beautiful. I'm feeling amazing because if I ever need a shot of energy or want to feel good or have a laugh, I look at the hazy bee now and then.
Chapter 2: What happened in the Maple Leafs vs. Lightning game?
Not the one that was put up on TV. Someone made another one where you have the cans around your neck. Right, the big headphones. Yeah. And the blue shirt, the wing-eating contest AI. Have you not seen that one yet? Yes, I have. This one is so gorgeous because you look so good in your suit, and it just looks like...
It looks like the guy in the cans is saying to the other hazy bee, you want to go for some ribs? And the other hazy bee goes, you're damn right I do. And you block arms. Yeah. Here's the issue I have with it. The other one is AI generated. And the other, like the real pick is a real pick. Right? Like that's the thing. Like it's, you can't have real picture guy and then. What do you mean?
Like the monster pic is a real pic? No, the monster is an AI pic. It kind of looks like me, but not really. But I get it. It's AI. The other one, if I'm thinking of the one that you've posted online, if that's what you're referencing. Did he post it? Yeah, he acts as if like, oh, I don't know if you've seen it. Yeah, you tagged me and I saw it. The other one is literally a photo shoot of me.
It's a real pic. It's the pic they use, I think, for Jay when I'm doing the Jay show.
Chapter 3: What is the future direction of the Toronto Maple Leafs' roster?
You're telling me that other pic in the black shirt was like a modeling type pic? Okay, so now you're conflating the two. The original Trade Center one was a real photo shoot. I have told you about this. That's the black shirt with a black undershirt, which is a brutal
look you know like no one wants to work that guy want to go for ribs yes yeah so that one i thought you're referencing the other pic you've been pumping out on twitter and you showed me that someone else put together yeah which is a picture of me and there it is like one That one right there. That is AI. Which one is AI? The blue shirt. That's not me. That's not my face.
No, that looks like Al's brother. That guy, I don't know. If that's not you, Hayes, that guy's got a criminal record, and he just eats ribs and wings all night. He scares people. The guy on the right spends a lot of time online, and he doesn't see the sun very often. No, and he creeps around places and scares the living... But here's the reality. Put that picture back up, and for the last time.
I'll never say that again. I'm actually probably 220 in that picture on the right. Like, that's AI 220. I actually look somewhat svelte. I was not when I actually was rocking that $10 Old Navy Brutal T-shirt back in the day. I had to be 260, 265. I was a pound back then. So AI actually somehow... made me look thinner. Yeah, it actually made me look better, if you can believe it.
And the one on the left is the Jay Show picture. Yeah, that's me. That's a photo shoot. Like, that's a real photo shoot. That's not 100% you. Yes, it is.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Craig Berube's coaching future?
I'm telling you, that's me. That's not doctored. No, that's AI. That is the Jay Show doctored. That's where you have the skinny microphone and you look like Bob Barker. You're right. That's that picture. The one that Jay actually uses... JNSC is 100% doctored. I do not look that good. That's actually a phenomenal looking picture. They had a little beard on. Not a beard, like 5 o'clock shadow.
Phenomenal. I look like I'm cruising the streets of Monaco. I look like a million bucks, a billion bucks. Yes, you do. That's not real. That's not me. I understand that. But the pic we just showed is actually me. Anyway. I know who did it. I actually know who put it together. Someone at TSN? No, he's a friend of the show. It's been like a day one-er. It's him and his buddies.
I don't want to out him, but his dear friend Mark is his name. Him and his buddies have been watching the show since day one. They put together things left and right that make us flattering and make us not so flattering. I believe he might have sent confirmation saying, that was me. Rarely flattering. I like how you spin that in. Well, for me, too.
There was somebody that did something to Rob Ray last night. Yes, was that a real picture? That guy got the Sabres rocking. They fired up Rodway with the noodles pick. I thought that was photoshopped. I thought it was photoshopped, too, because what you're referencing is someone's got a noodle's head. Yes. That's real. Look at that. That's not AI. That's real. But why me trolling Rob Ray?
But Rob Ray said on the broadcast, he's like, I have no idea who that is. Yes, he does. He knows exactly who it is. Well, I text Marty Barana and go, was that real? Because I was watching the game, but I didn't watch. I think they had a different broadcast. They might have had a Tampa broadcast on or whatever.

Chapter 5: How is Brad Treliving impacting the Maple Leafs?
But I was watching that game. I did not see that come up on my screen. I had a producer from TNT actually send it to me. I saw it online. I think we have it. Do you want to see the whole video? Yes, I would love to. Rob Ray, my dear friend. Yes, you and Rob Ray go way back. Everyone loves Rob Ray. Yes, we all do. And, you know, the game of the year yesterday down in Buffalo. Unbelievable.
And this is on MSG in Buffalo. And this was, I guess, what inspired the group and the building yesterday. Just get tied up in all the extracurricular that's going on. You've got to make sure you're focused. Look at that guy. Not sure who that is. Jamie McLennan, we're told. Is that who it is? That's who that is. Right here, look at that. Your own fan club. Curling boys, stick together.
There you are from back home. Okay, there you go. I think he knew exactly who it was and what he was trying to do and trying to, I guess, pit you guys against each other. But that's not going to happen anymore. We're not doing that anymore. And the thing is, too, apparently he spun.
Like, Marty sent me a note saying the guy spun the sign, and they're from Razor's hometown, and they curled together or whatever. Okay. So that's what it was. But why would you put my mug on there to get his attention? Well, it got his attention. He's from a small town in Ontario somewhere. I don't know. I guess Sterling. I can't remember where. Sterling, yeah. I'll tell you one thing.
What a contrast. I know what you're going to say. I know what you're going to say. Go ahead. That game versus the Tampa Bay-Toronto game, it was like, my word. Like, that game yesterday had everything. It had fights. And it was like Tampa was saying, we're sending a message saying,
The players only sending a message saying, if we ever meet you guys, if you want to take us down four times, it's not going to be fun. You might get us, but it's not going to be fun, and we want to see if you guys are actually ready to do this. And you know what, Buffalo? You heard their guys in the locker room after the game saying stuff like, we stuck together. We had fun.

Chapter 6: What is the current status of the Buffalo Sabres as contenders?
That was great. That's hockey. Where not too long ago, I think it was in the fall, where Lindy Ruff was saying that nobody stuck together, nobody stuck up for each other, and we ran out of the building and it was embarrassing. And then the next game they tried to act like they wanted to fight. That was a test for Buffalo, and they passed with flying colors. It was a wildly entertaining game.
It had everything. But I think Buffalo, I think they most importantly taught each other that if we ever get into business like that, because Jarmo Kekalainen the other day said, teams are trying to push us around a little bit, and we want that to stop. And they sent the message back saying, you want to play that? We'll play that game. But the game Saturday night was a complete embarrassment.
And I get it. They're out of it. There's nothing to play for. And they continue to say, I love how they get their doors blown off and they wheel out Matthias Michelli to address the media. It's like great, great stuff. Matthias Michelli is going to speak for that.
I can't imagine, and I feel bad for people, and I don't want to blow this out of proportion, like there's still people that get to go down to that building for the first time and like watch a game. Imagine watching that nonsense. That was complete nonsense. Oh, it's awful. Oh, yeah. I think to put it into perspective, because I got a lot more to say on Buffalo-Tampa. I know you do, too, Noodles.
We will talk a lot about that game and what it represents and why it was so great. But I was trying to put it into perspective, like how the Leafs are playing right now. It jogged my memory of the conversation we were having at the Olympics, jokingly. Could Switzerland beat Vancouver? And I still stand by my take. Vancouver has been the worst team in the league.
And it really hasn't been close for months. But I think if you were to ask every other team in the league to vote, you can play one team tonight where you guarantee yourself a win. Who would you pick? And it wouldn't be unanimous, but I think the majority would pick the Leafs. I think that's how bad it is. Let's say you're Ottawa. You need a win tonight to stay in it. You're Boston.
You need a win tonight. The Islanders, you need a win because you've got 20 games left and you're chasing something. I can give you the pick of the litter. You can pick Vancouver if you want. You can pick any team in the league. I think the Leafs would be the number one pick.
Again, it would not be unanimous, but I think the majority of the votes would say the Leafs because they are a complete washout right now. They're a complete pushover. And they keep trying to... Again, I get it. The season's over. I mean, you guys can speak to it. Mentally, it's difficult. It's done. They're over. It's done. They just went through the trade deadline.
Yes, it's a unique situation for a lot of them who have been here for a while, who have been playoff teams forever. So I totally understand the human element to it, and I empathize to it and for it. But they all keep coming out after the game, Max Domi. We're pros. When you have to tell people you're pros... That's sign number one. You've got a big problem. We know you're professional.

Chapter 7: What insights does Steve Phillips provide about the Blue Jays' roster?
It's a formality. They have to play. Yeah, it's pathetic. The only thing that is concerning more, guys, is I think there's too many games. There's a lot of games. This is how teams play. Everyone's got to play a lot of games. I understand that all, but what I'm saying is
I can't absolve anybody of this, but if this was the last three to five games and you're like, they're just wheeling into the end, there's a month and a half left. There's too much time, too much runway to be playing like this. Something has to give. And again, I know it's easy for me to say or whatever, but you look at it...
They've got a, like, Nylander, Matthews, Nyes, like, all of them had chances the other night. They're just, you know, snakebitten. Matthews I feel awful for. He just can't score. He just can't score right now. But it hits a glove and then hits the crossbar.
Chapter 8: What are the concerns surrounding Trey Yesavage's playing time?
But, like, I look at it. I can understand the thought process if you're five games left. I've been there. I was in Calgary in 01, and Daryl Sutter said to us, You know, we've got five games left, and if you don't try, I'm holding everybody that's a veteran accountable. He said, like, you've got to dig in and play hard.
Jamie, it's interesting you said that because Craig Berube said the same thing the other night. I think it was in New Jersey. He's like, rely heavily on the vets. Like, really got to lean on the vets right now. And they just go out and get squashed every night. Now, Tampa's on a different level right now than them. But you can't play that in New Jersey where you give up 50 shots.
That's the one that stinks. Philly, you know, like I understand Tampa. The teams that are, you know, rolling and chugging, and I get that. But, like, a team that should be on paper close to you guys and you're close in the standings and the effort level, the determination, the secondary effort, like you can't. How many games left? 17? Yeah. Yeah, they've got a lot of games left.
But you can't do that for 18 games. I just think it's physically impossible. Yeah, that's it. I mean, at some point, they're going to win games. Yes. And I would love to get an honest answer on what they think is in the best interest. of the team this year and into the future with this top five protected pick hanging over them. Because, you know, there's a hyper focus on it. Can they tank?
Can they get there? And the way they're playing, they are tanking. It's spontaneous tanking. It wasn't planned. It's certainly ā I don't believe it's what ā Craig Berube is aware of and trying to execute. They're just playing tank hockey. That's how they play. But let's say they get into the top five. They keep the pick this year. Then it rolls over to Boston, unprotected.
And then the Philly pick rolls over, I believe, unprotected. So you're doing this dance for a couple of years. If you believe this is just a complete ā One-off. One-off, atrocious season. Does that feel hard to believe? Yes. Is it possible? Yes. I mean, again, everyone's emotional right now. Everyone really has a hate on for everything Maple Leafs right now.
It's tough to like anything about what's going on. But could they reset in the offseason, change a couple of things, dramatically change some things, like foundational things that are changeable, get some healthy goaltending, couple new pieces in here, and be better next year? Yes, that is conceivable.
But if the thought process behind the scenes, whoever's going to make this decision, Tree Living, Pelly, someone else, if you think this is just the tip of the iceberg and it's the cliff where just your two wheels are off it, the other two aren't, then playing the, uh-oh, that pick's going to this team next year and the following year is tough.
So I guess what I'm getting to is I think there's a part, like people are like, oh, they're tanking for that pick. Maybe. Or they're saying, we've got to win to just get this pick over with. Give Boston the 12th pick, and it sucks, and the trade is what it is, but it's done. And now you just deal with Philly next year and a lot in ā
