Chapter 1: What are the latest updates on Pompey's injury situation?
The latest Pompey news updates every day from the Pompey Sound News Desk. John Massino is talking about the unfortunate timing of the injury to the newly arrived Keshi Anderson. We brought Casey in to strengthen that department so unfortunately he has picked up that injury.
It happened at a time when we were slowly bringing Harvey back we're getting Gus up to speed, and we lost Josh Murphy for the season in the meantime. In other circumstances if we'd had a bit more in and around that, it wouldn't have mattered so much. But Keshie being out has been a real blow, he'd been looking really sharp, you guys had seen the performances as well as me.
He came on and made some really important contributions, and was due to start against Ipswich, February 3rd, but unfortunately got injured on the same day when he came back, and started training.
Chapter 2: How does Keshi Anderson's injury impact Pompey's season?
Now we're just looking to get him back into training fully, and returning for away at Norwich. Yeah, he could have an important part to play in the last few games of the season. It's ironic and unfortunate that Pompey bought him because he was a seasoned, experienced, championship-level player.
And we needed players of that description, of that profile, coming into the club in January because John Messina made it clear that they were looking to recruit for the here and now rather than the future.
and Keshie Anderson was a snip, a steal, a bargain, but kind of a bargain, in as much as we got him on a free, but for him to be injured almost straight away, and he's not the first Pompey player to arrive here, and before he's even decided which locker he's going to use, he's on the treatment table.
So very unfortunate for him, but mostly very, I think it's fair to say, mostly very unfortunate for Pompey. the club, the squad, John Massino and the coaching staff as well. There comes a time when you think to yourself, Lady Luck is so not smiling on me that it's just not fair.
And Pompey's injury list, as I was telling somebody who inquired about it, a non-Pompey fan, I said at one point we had 15 players injured out of a, whatever it is, 25, 28-man squad injury. which is unprecedented, almost unbelievable. But there it is. Keshie due back, hopefully, in time for the Norwich game. That would be fantastic.
It would be nice, really, to have some competition for places right across the pitch. And he could certainly chase Gus and also Millie, who hopefully will come back onto the boil fairly soon, chase them for their starting place. We've been looking at Pompey's recent results, the negative ones. We've had some very positive ones, but mostly negative ones over the last half dozen or more games.
And we've noticed an interesting, going to call it a syndrome, and that is as follows. Well, check it out for yourself. Hull, we lost 1-0. Wrexham, we lost 2-1. Sheffield United, we lost 1-0. Preston North End, we lost 1-0. That's four games, more than half the games over that period that we lost, and lost them by just one goal. Does that mean that it was a close result?
Well, it was a close result, but were the performances between the two teams close? Yes, they were. So you can take heart from that curious statistic, unusual statistic, and say that Pompey are very close, to getting the kind of results that we deserve from the performances that we're putting in.
Or you can go negative on it and say that of those three games that we lost, we didn't score a single goal, which is a reasonable observation. In fact, we only scored one goal across those four games, which was this sort of consolation goal against Wrexham. So there's something to take heart from in those defeats. But there's also a little bit of soul-searching is absolutely necessary.
