Chapter 1: How did the White Sox perform against the Yankees?
This hour is brought to you by Menards.

Rahimi Harrison-Grody, 10-2 on 104.3 The Score. You and I yesterday during the show challenged each other to ask what we would ask if we had an opportunity to ask Tiago Splitter a question. We named a couple of things. I don't want to mischaracterize it, but you wanted to know if the Bulls could be good right away, maybe, like you're talking about with Ben Johnson.
I think it was more how good can the Bulls be right away in a league where it's by design 20 teams make the postseason and over half the league makes the playoffs.
So Tiago Splitter discussed his expectations for this year's Bulls team.
We got to know what's going to be the roster. We got to compete every day. We're going to set high standards and we're going to go from there. And then eventually we can make small goals and small wins.
satisfactory answer from him?
Oh, absolutely. That's the answer you have to give because one, he shouldn't know. How are you going to tell me what you're going to do? You don't know what your roster looks like. You don't know which of the highly touted prospects are going to end up on your roster.
I honestly don't know. I don't know yet. I haven't decided what I want to do with that yet.

Chapter 2: What impact does the Cubs' demotion of Moises Ballesteros have?
Put himā He's definitely your guy, Marshall, and we're giving you all the Steelers too now.
We can let bygones be bygones.
Maybe I can, I guess.
We at least put our foot down when this guy wanted to. You guys were here when he tried to put up the post, the Aaron Rodgers poster that he had. That cardboard cutout he had in his bedroom. Yeah, we had to draw a line. I literally drew a line in the studio when he started to bring that. I'm like, come on, man.
We know this is a fun little thing to do, but it would really disturb me to have Aaron Rodgers' cutout in this room. So appreciate you playing ball with us on that.
So where do you think he is? Is he like under Pat McAfee's couch or something? It's a darkness retreat.
Layla Rahimi, Marshall Harris, Mark Grody. Middays 10 a.m. to 2 on Chicago Sports Radio 104.3 The Score.
That's right. It is Rahimi Harrison Grody right here on 104.3 The Score. And I am Gabe Ramirez filling in today. But Marshall Harris still in the building. What up? Beep, beep, beep.

Chapter 3: What are the expectations for the USA-Australia World Cup match?
Do you think if you just have the day off, that's celebrating a holiday? You don't have to do anything.
You don't have to acknowledge. Because let's be real. Let's have a real black and brown conversation right here. Okay. July 4th. Right. There's people that don't air quote celebrate it. Right. But they got the day off. So they're celebrating it. I don't agree. I know. That's why I did that. That's why I did that because I feel like that's the other side of that one right there.
But, yeah, shout out. Happy Juneteenth as we celebrate freedom, black history, and just the contributions to black Americans to the United States of America. It's going to be an amazing day, not just because it's Juneteenth, but, of course, as Marshall mentioned, Cubs baseball today a little bit later. You get a nice little Friday matinee. And then Team USA, speaking of America. You better say.
Playing at 2 o'clock, getting things going. We'll get a chance to get into that.
Can I tell the people what you were doing walking to the studio today? I believe that we can win. I believe that we can win. We will.
I believe we will. Oh, we will win?

Chapter 4: What strategies did the White Sox use to avoid the sweep?
Do you remember that chant? Oh, yeah, I do. Yeah. From back in the day?
Back in the day when actually when they thought they were going to do something in the World Cup.
They didn't do anything. Not a damn thing.
But you know what? They already scored four goals and they've only played one game. So I'm optimistic and I have the foresight to see another win is on the table.
Yeah, look at that. They almost scored as many goals as the White Sox scored runs last night against the New York Yankees. Sox pick up the victory, avoid the sweep. You know, I was talking about this last night with David Hall on the Chicago lead. And the question was, do the Sox need to avoid the sweep against the Yankees? My answer was no.
I didn't feel as though, as a Sox fan, there needed to be that level of pressure like, well, damn, if you get swept by the Yankees, then the season is, no, no, don't do that. Don't put that on my season. Don't put that on my team. This is a squad that is playing above where anyone expected them to play.
And when you're putting up against the juggernauts of the league, I should not then expect you to be competing with them as if you were cut from that same cloth at the beginning of the season.
I'm a big believer in the 162 is 162, so I'm not going to get too high or too low off of one game or one series. If you remember, they got swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. That didn't stop them from being a team that's now in first place in the AL Central. If they had gotten swept yesterday, they wouldn't be temporarily in first place, but there's more games to play.
They haven't even played the team that they're battling for first place yet. They've got 13 games left against the Guardians. I wasn't putting that type of pressure on it, but I did want to see somebody ā anybody pitched better than what they've been pitching in the month of June.

Chapter 5: How is the White Sox pitching rotation performing this season?
Of course, Brian Hudson, the opener. It's so interesting how Will Venable is ā I wonder what the stats are. Can we get a look on that? Like who's used the most openers in Major League Baseball? because obviously if you have quality starters, there's not necessarily a need to do that.
But it's worked out for the White Sox throughout the season, so that's why Will Venable continues to implement it. Brian Hudson going one and two-thirds, Sean Burke coming in after that, and then finishing the game, pitching out seven and a third, only giving up five hits, one earned run, one walk on the day, and eight strikeouts.
With a line like that, Marshall, you have to ask yourself, well, damn, shouldn't he be able to just ā Walk in the door and do that from the very beginning, but that's not necessarily the case.
No, because I think when you look at him specifically, and all of the rotation, because you go back to the early in the season when they really couldn't get anybody out, and the opener was a mainstay, right? I'm glad that they've been able to cut back on it because they have gotten better starting pitching performances.
But Sean Burke, I just think there's a certain level of confidence when you don't have to face as powerful of a lineup, whether it's the Yankees or the Phillies, that first time through, and you come in settled, right? And I was surprised he came in in the middle of an inning. I thought that was a bold move because he didn't come in with a clean slate, right?
He came in and Hudson only went one and two-thirds. What shocked me was Burke just kept running back out there. If you remember, I think it was after the seventh or during the seventh, Grant Taylor was up in the bullpen. and he doesn't even need to come in. That's why I think this was such a monumental performance from Sean Burke to go the seven and a third.
You mentioned the eight strikeouts, but the fact that he just kept going out there and getting the job done, and he got some help from his defense in a multitude of ways, and I was happy to see we're up to 13 guys now that the White Sox have called up to make their major league debut this season. That leads every team in the major.
Junior Perez, didn't know much about him, but I do know something now. Yeah.
run at him at your own peril yes it's so interesting right when you're thinking about the amount of guys the white socks have called up this season because you have to okay follow me for a second follow me for a second i'll follow you trade deadline coming up okay you're they're bringing up guys because they want their team to be good but if the white socks are to be buyers at the trade deadline

Chapter 6: What does the Cubs' roster look like after Ballesteros' demotion?
But these are things you get to say. Well, same thing holds true for a guy like Perez. Look, he got a cannon. Right? No, that's what you get to say. You want my outfielder? Look at him. But that happens when you play guys and you get an opportunity to show them off. And several guys have had that opportunity. Luis Acuna, obviously, from the very beginning, getting an opportunity.
You've seen his speed there. Sam Antonacci letting you know he's the firecracker that everybody wants there. Brady Montgomery. I mean, you're seeing a lot of guys get the opportunity to come up and pitch as well. And so, but I... I wonder, in your mind, Marshall, after you heard what I said, do you think it's a showcase or more they're getting these guys up out of necessity?
No, I think it's a necessity thing. You saw Everson Pereira. He's had some bad luck this season. Seven-day injured list with a concussion. And it's been remarkable that they've just had guys who could backfill every time. Every time they're calling on someone to do more, that player has done more. Tristan Peters is a great example, former Savannah Banana.
He's out here as a mainstay in center field. Sam Antonacci, he wasn't even playing in the outfield when the season started. Now he looks pretty good out there as a left fielder. And what I think it's allowed Will Venable to do, and this dude is in the driver's seat and maybe a couple of laps ahead of everyone else for American League Manager of the Year right now.
He's been able to punch the right buttons because he gets in situations where he feels like, I know what my guys can do. And I think the best example of that is when you go to the eighth inning of last night's game. Because understand this.

Chapter 7: What are the implications of the Cubs' current season performance?
He had, what, Andrew Benintendi replace... Gritchick, and that was who hit the grand slam on the first pitch that he saw. Disgusting. He had Jacob Gonzalez, who was hit by a pitch when he comes in, and he has Sam Antonacci, who leaves off the inning with the double after he replaces Luis Angel Acuna.
The fact that he has the bench depth to be able to make those moves late in games against relief, middle relief, not late inning, we're down by three relief, but just in a game where theā The outcome is still in doubt. Will Venable, more times than not, has been able to punch the right buttons because he's had the players available to him that have gotten the job done.
And versatile players too, right? I mean, because you're looking at the changes, right? Sam Antonagi comes in for Luis Acuna, but Sam goes to left field. Montgomery goes from third to shortstop. It's like they're able to make those changes. When Gonzalez comes in to play first base, Miguel Vargas goes back to his original position at third.
So it's not only the foresight and the wherewithal to bring guys in in perfect timing, but it's also the ability to move guys around and understand that they're capable of playing at those positions at a high level to hold on to the lead in the late innings. Because you need this victory against, or you want this victory against the Yankees. Yeah, this is a team in the truest sense, right?
When you're looking at the roster, Not only do they have this great camaraderie and gel that exists in the dugout, but these guys all play baseball. Baseball players are in the truest sense of the word. And the fact that they're able to feed off one another. I was talking about this yesterday as well. When you're looking at Colson Montgomery.
If he were on any other team, I don't want to say it like that because that's too much of a bold statement, but if he were on a majority of teams in Major League Baseball, I don't know if he'd have the same success that he's having right now after dealing with the struggles that he dealt with last year and the year prior.
I think the locker room that he's in right now, like if he was in Philly, you know Philadelphia very well, Marshall. If he was in Philly, I don't know if he would have been able to deal with the bumps and bruises the same way that he was given the grace here and then given the opportunity to be in a locker room in a dugout full of like-minded individuals that are growing in the same way.
And then you don't feel that same amount of pressure and you're able to break out of whatever it is funk that you were in at one point.
No, no, I understand that. I can see why you would believe that, because other teams have expectations. The White Sox have a simple expectation. That's to play hard, do your best.

Chapter 8: How can Team USA secure a win against Australia in the World Cup?
But there's not, hey, we assembled this multi-nine-figure team that's top ten in payroll, and we expect to be division champs. That's not what's going on here. It's very much a development year for the Sox.
Now, if it's development that comes with an AL Central title, no one's going to complain, players included, but they're just doing their job, and I think they believe in Will Venable, and they all understand their role, and that's whether they start the game on the bench or they start the game in the starting lineup, knowing either way, they may come out of the game as a starter, they may get in the game later in an important situation, and they've been able to rise to the occasion a lot, especially when you look at the series against the Yankees.
They got beat up in those first two series. The offense wasn't as dynamic, but... It showed up in Game 2 more than it did in Game 1. I think the overall point, though, is that they are still explosive. And they can kill you. And Colson Montgomery right now is the poster child. And my favorite part about this is no Munataka Murakami.
That's crazy.
And Kyle Teal still on the way.
Breaking in the minors right now. It's unbelievable. He's Marshall Harris. I'm Gabe Ramirez. This is 104.3 The Score. Rahimi Harris and Grody. It's like you look at that.
lineup without Murakami assuming he comes back in and again it's like you know you really look at this team and the cynical Sox fan now has to look at this team and say to themselves damn I think I think they might think they might go to the playoffs it's very possible it's on the table Sox are two to one right now at BetMGM two to one to win the AL Central they're plus money still to make the playoffs plus 115 so there's still doubt in the air
The opportunity to make the money. So if you're so confident in that, in the Southsiders, then maybe you might want to lay some money down.
