Chapter 1: What is the significance of Big Freeze 12?
All right, one of the best times of the year is the Big Freeze, Big Freeze 12. The beanies will be on sale this Wednesday. And to tell us all about it is our special guest, Bec Danaher from Freeze MND. Bec, thanks so much for your time and welcome.
Thank you for having me on. It's an exciting day.
Kingy looks magnificent in the newest edition of the Big Freeze beanie. You've got an extra large perfectly fitting... Nicely, thanks, Bec.
And they fit all heads. They fit all heads.
What's Big Freeze 12 all about this year?
Bec, what's the message? The message for Big Freeze 12 is I choose fight. And it's something that Dad decided...
12 years ago he was told that there was nothing that could be done and just to accept it 27 months was the average lifespan he was given he's proven that he is a fighter and he's defied those statistics and each and every day he chooses to fight back and MND is just a tough tough disease it strips away so much you know dad hasn't been able to speak for about seven years
It's taken now his ability to walk and it does that. But the fact that he's still here and he's still fighting is absolutely remarkable.
Bec, it's become one of the great days on the AFL calendar. I look forward to it. I love it. We all love it every year. And it's a little bit emotional for all that are close to people who are suffering with MND. You must get a lot of feedback from people that emotionally are on the edge.

Chapter 2: What message does Bec Daniher want to share about MND?
We need to find this answer as quickly as possible. There's no treatment. There's no cure for MND. We don't know why people are getting it, so 90% of the cases. So this is just for us to be able to continue to unlock the answers. We want to be in a world one day where, you know, it might be a dad or a mum or a family member sitting down there, their loved ones, to say, I've got M&A, don't worry.
Here is what we're going to do. It's treatable, it's curable. And that day is coming closer and closer, and it's thanks to the generosity of Australians that... buy a beanie, buy a pair of socks, donate, just show up on the day, just talk about M&D. It's all making such a big difference.
Now, the 2026 sliders will be unveiled over the next few weeks. There'll be some huge names in there, and they join a list of Hall of Fame sports people and names from around Australia. Have you got a teaser for us for anyone that's likely to launch the campaign?
Well, we actually just announced our first glider this morning. So we've done things a little bit differently. So Sam Mack put up his hand. He's been our first glider announced this morning. And then we will have another about nine gliders announced in the week leading up. There's going to be some incredible sporting stars. There's going to be some entertainers.
There's going to be just faces that everyone knows and has just been waiting for them to be asked to go down.
Well, we cannot wait. As Kingy said, it is the most special day on the AFL calendar. Of course, Sam Mack, the slider, first one announced. There'll be more to come. Grab your beanies, grab your socks, and do what you can to help fight this insidious disease. But you're an inspiration, as is your dad, and we appreciate you joining us this morning.
Thank you. The weather's just turning nice and crisp for these beanies. Perfect timing.
Perfect.
No one's got any excuses. Head out and grab your beanie and get behind it.
