Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
This is a Squiz Podcast. We're your shortcut to being informed.
Good morning, I'm Andrew Williams. And I'm Anna Paikett. It's Thursday the 4th of June. In your Squiz today, Iran and the US trade strikes, there's a policing uproar in the UK, a Disney duet legend dies, and a palaver over a big potato. This is your Squiz today. First of all, you will have noticed a new voice just then. Anna, welcome to the podcast. It's fantastic to have you here.
I'm very excited for Squizzers to get to know you. But before we get into the news proper, just tell us a little bit about where you've come from.
Chapter 2: What are the key events between the US and Iran discussed in this episode?
Good morning, Andrew. I'm so excited to be here. I'm a long-time listener and first-time host, so this is a great morning for me. Before joining The Squiz, I produced ABC News Radio's national brekkie programme, so I'm no stranger to pretty aggressive ouch o'clock alarm calls. I'm a total news nerd.
I've also been a newsreader and reporter for the BBC before I switched hemispheres and came down here to Australia.
Yes, you've probably noticed there's a British accent peaking through there, but you became an Australian citizen just over a year ago now. So, welcome and it's lovely to have you here. Now, you and I share a whole bunch in common, but one thing in particular is that we both appreciate a good notebook.
Yeah, I mean, who doesn't love gorgeous stationery? I know you do, Andrew, but I just wish my handwriting didn't let me down. It looks all right on the first page and then it just descends into spider scribble. I'm a fair weather runner. I love baking. You'll get to know that I have a real sweet tooth. My baking tends to taste better than it looks.
I really love chatting to people about the news, but also about anything and everything. I'm so stoked to get to know the Squiz community and have some fun.
And they're a wonderful community. So they'll no doubt love getting to know you too. Let's get into the news. And we're going to start with a story that is no stranger to the top of the podcast. It's the war between the US, Israel and Iran, because the ceasefire there has been tested by more exchanges of fire over the last day.
And it's drawn some of the US allies in the region into the conflict again.
Yes, it has, particularly ones which house US military bases. Officials in Kuwait say one person has been killed and more than 60 have been injured in Iranian drone strikes on its international airport. Bahrain says it's also been targeted by Iran and we've heard from them.
Iran says these latest attacks are in retaliation for US strikes on an Iranian oil tanker in Kisham Island, which is in the Strait of Hormuz. The US claims these attacks were what it's called US self-defense strikes. They've taken place as ceasefire negotiations between the two countries continue to seem to stall.

Chapter 3: How does the recent conflict affect the US allies in the region?
We love both of those things. This is about the big potato in the town of Robertson in New South Wales. It's one of those classic Australian big things like the banana that serve as tourist destinations around the country. But this one might be moving. I haven't seen many of them move before.
No, and this is because it's on private land and the owner of that land wants to move it to make way for a supermarket. Now, if you're not familiar with the Big Potato, it's been in Robertson for 50 years and it was once voted Australia's, well, worst big thing.
Let's say worst big thing.
I can't say the award it actually won, but let's just let's go with that. A little while ago, it was also painted into a pig potato in honour of the 30th anniversary of the movie Babe. So it's an icon, but it might have to move. But luckily, it's on skids, so potentially not actually as difficult as it could be.
No, much easier than some of the other big things around the country. But for now, it's actually going to stay where it is. Even though the owner wants to build a supermarket on that land, the local council has knocked that idea back. So the matter is actually going to court. This is going to go to arbitration. So if it does end up moving, though, it's likely to head to a local park.
And well done to both of us for getting through that without a single potato pun. Pat on the back. Squeeze the day now. Huge day for fans of the He-Man and Masters of the Universe media franchise. I know an alarming amount of those. And I say media franchise because this started in the early 80s as a toy line before becoming movies and TV shows, etc.
So if you know He-Man and She-Ra, Castle Greyskull, it's all that sort of stuff. So a new live action Masters of the Universe film is out in wide release today, featuring characters like Skeletor and Mechanic, Goatman, and of course, my favourite, Evil Lin.
Well, she was never going to be a hero with a name like that, was she?
No, very hard to rescue people. Hi, I'm Evil Lynn. I'm here to rescue you.
