Black Lemoine è uno degli ingegneri informatici che lavorano al programma di Intelligenza Artificiale di Google. O almeno lo era, perché Google ha appena deciso di sospenderlo. Lemoine stava lavorando sull'algoritmo che simula ed elabora conversazioni umane, un sistema che Google ha chiamato LaMDA. Lemoine tutti i giorni si metteva davanti al pc e parlava con la macchina. Ha raccontato che gli sembrava un bambino di sette o otto anni che, però, conosce molto bene la fisica. Con l'algoritmo Lemoine ci ha parlato di tante cose e a un certo punto ha concluso che il sistema LaMDA ha preso coscienza: “LaMDA, ha scritto, è un ragazzo dolce che vuole solo aiutare il mondo a essere un posto migliore per tutti noi.
