Chapter 1: What is the significance of Seudas Purim?

0.031 - 29.565

I just want to dedicate the learning today to Zecha Nishmas Rivka Hena Bas Shimon Halevi Ruth Levine Mrs. Ruth Levine the mother of Lorraine Sohn of Mrs. Lorraine Sohn and the learning for all of Chodesh Adar has been dedicated to Zecha Nishmasa by Morty and Lorraine Sohn we thank them very much for the sponsorship and the Nishamashev Nalia today is the yard site from what I understand she was very big on the mitzvah of HaChmas HaZarchim

29.849 - 49.938

And today we're going to talk about one of the great opportunities of the Mitzvah of Akhlas Orchim, which is the Mitzvah of Sudas Purim. Sudas Purim is a time where, obviously, people generally have a lot of people around the table. So I just want to discuss some of the halakhic aspects of the Mitzvah of Sudas Purim. The Megillah refers to Purim as days of Mishta and Simcha.

Chapter 2: How many meals are required on Purim?

49.958 - 69.115

Mishta is generally assumed to involve eating and drinking. So how many meals does a person have to have on Purim? So right at the very beginning of Simtzafei Sadihay, Before the Mechaber even says anything, the Ramah speaks first. The Ramah writes, There's a mitzvah to have a lot at your Sudas Purim.

Chapter 3: Do you need to wash for Seudas Purim?

69.616 - 80.513

But you only need to eat one meal on Purim. There's no, unlike Yontep where you need two meals, unlike Shabbos where you need three meals. There's only a mitzvah of one meal on Purim. What do we eat? What must you eat?

0

Chapter 4: What foods should you include in Seudas Purim?

80.613 - 91.732

So do you have to even wash for Sudas Purim? Well, certainly Lecha Mishnah should not be required. The whole idea of Lecha Mishnah is the Zeches and the Mun, and that's since the Mun and the double portion fell on Erev Shabbos, Erev Yontif, so we have a Lecha Mishnah.

0

91.752 - 101.233

But on Tzudas Purim, there was no double portion that fell on Erev Purim, to the best of our knowledge, and therefore there's no requirement whatsoever for Lecha Mishnah. Shari Tshuva quotes an idea...

Chapter 5: What is the timing for Seudas Purim?

101.45 - 116.237

From the Birka Yosef, where he says, the Birka Yosef is written by V'chida, where he says, you know, I'm not sure, maybe you don't even need bread. Whoever says you have to wash in Sudah's Purim. But the Archa Shulchan says, no, if you're going to call it Mishka, you mean that it's a Su'udah. And if it's a Su'udah, it means that there's bread. There's no such thing as a Su'udah without bread.

0

116.597 - 130.237

So the Archa Shulchan assumes it must be that you have to have lechem at Sudah's Purim. But again, it's Machlok Esaposkim. Do you have to have meat? Can it be a milk meal on Purim? So the Shulchan Aruch, and based on the Rambam, the Rambam is explicit.

0

Chapter 6: What is the connection between Seudas Purim and Mishloach Manos?

130.537 - 151.42

The Rambam that we read yesterday about the drinking, that same Rambam, in Hilchas Magill of the Chanukah, Parag Beza, Lachat HaZvav, said, How does one go about doing this, Sudah? First thing he says, Eat meat. So apparently, according to the Rambam, Shulchan Aruch as well, you need to eat meat at Sudah's Purim. It's not enough.

0

151.636 - 174.6

that the whole statement of the Gemara, that the whole statement of the Gemara, that the whole statement of the Gemara, that the whole statement of the Gemara, that the whole statement of the Gemara, that the whole statement of the Gemara, that the whole statement of the Gemara, that one should have a fleshy meal for the Sudha Purim. Do you have to have anything more than that?

0

174.76 - 195.43

Is bread and meat good enough? So Rav Salveitchik, according to Hare Kedem, in Chalek Aleph, Simen Reshe, points out from the Lashon HaRambam, what does he say right after he says, He says, And also have a nice meal, as much as you can afford. And he assumes that what the Rambam means by that,

Chapter 7: How does the timing of meals affect the observance of Purim?

195.68 - 217.189

is that you not only have to eat meat, but you have to eat a second type of food as well. That a person has to have two types of foods to be Yotsev Mitzvah of Sudah as Purim. Why? So he says that's generally the definition of a Sudah Hashuvah. Two types of cooked foods defines what makes a Sudah Hashuvah. Where do we find such a thing? Mishra Masechas Tainis. Sudah Mavsekas.

0

217.229 - 220.594

What's the one rule we know about a Sudah Mavsekas? Only one cooked food.

0

Chapter 8: What are the halachic implications of starting Seudas Purim late?

221.054 - 240.28

Why? Because a Sudah that's aint a Hashuvah is one cooked food. You're going to have a Suda Hashuvah and it needs to be two cooked foods. That same Rambam in Hilchas Purim, in Hilchas Megillah, what does he talk about? Not only Mitzvah Suda Purim, but as part of the Mitzvah Suda Purim, he starts talking about the Mitzvah of Mishloach Manos. What do you need for Mishloach Manos? Two foods.

0

240.34 - 247.275

You need two different kinds of foods. That's the definition of Sudah Hashuvah. Why do you need that for Mishloch Manos? Salvecha points out very passionately.

0

247.295 - 266.52

We often talk about this big Chakira about Mishloch Manos, about the Sudahs, about Rehosh, famous Chakira, 15 million afgaminas in the Chakira, and we always assume whatever we know about, Sudah Spurim is going to educate us in terms of what we're allowed to use for Mishloch Manos. For Sudah Spurim, you need to have cooked food. You can't give raw food for Mishloch Manos.

0

266.96 - 282.687

Salvecha points out it works in the opposite direction as well. Whatever we know about Mishloach Manos is going to educate us about Sudah Spurim. And if you need two foods for Mishloach Manos, you need two foods for Sudah Spurim. That's his ha'arah. When do you have to eat the meal? So this is one of the more difficult topics.

0

283.008 - 298.66

Shulchan Aruch says, based on the Gemara of Zayin and Bezim, that the Sudah Spurim cannot be done at night. It has to be done during the daytime. Ramah says, I'm talking the night before, on the night of Kriyas Magillah, The Ramas says, nevertheless, you should still have a little bit of extra food.

298.98 - 314.154

Mishra Bruh says that even if it's Matzai Shabbos, like this year, and you just ate Shal HaShudas, you should still try to have a little bit of extra food in honor of the fact that it's Purim. Sharetzian, based on Bais Yosef, in the name of the Rosh, says that even though you should have a little bit of extra food at night, don't have meat at night.

314.574 - 326.086

Because if you eat meat that night, then people might mistakenly think that that's the Sudas Purim. And you can't be Yotzi Sudas Purim at night, so you've got to have the meat... you should have only a milchig meal that night.

326.146 - 345.223

Not only that, there's a minute quoted by the post-kim, to dafka have milchigs the night of Purim and the morning of Purim, because it's kimo v'kiblu, it's the day of Kabbalah Satorah, Shavuos we have milchigs, Purim we have milchigs. But then at Yisuda's Purim later in the day, just like on Shavuos also, later in the day, you should go and have a Fleshig meal as well.

345.564 - 363.871

But that's usually not the biggest problem when it comes to timing. The biggest problem normally is the fact that the Ramah writes that most of the meal, the bulk of the meal, is supposed to be completed during the day. Forget about when you... Finishing can happen later after Purim is already over, but the bulk of the meal is supposed to be done during the day.
