Chapter 1: What happened in the Knicks vs. Blazers game?
Good morning and welcome to the NBA Daily. Coming up, the Knicks hit a game winner, the Jazz got fined for tanking, and Jay King joins the show to talk about how the Thunder handled the Celtics. Good morning, everybody. Good morning, S. Morning, Dave. What a game. What a day.
What a game.
What a game. And we're not talking about Nuggets, Wolves, or Thunder Celtics, although Thunder Celtics was maybe.
It was a great game.
It's going to be on the list of games of the year, and we went pretty deep on that on both sides, not just the Celtics with Jay, because Jay is so good about covering every team. So stick around after the break, guys. We're going to go deep on Celtics Thunder and talk about what this game means for potential finals. matchup, but man, the game last night.
I think we got another game of the year winner. How about this?
You know?
Knicks and Blazers going down to the wire in overtime. The Knicks win on a McHale Bridges just straight away, top of the key, three-point make at the buzzer, but... Before we get to how the Knicks win this game and just pull out a gutty win, we got to talk about the Blazers, man. They continue to just play tough. By the way, Chauncey Billups coaches the Blazers. I don't know if you guys know this.
Not everybody watches the Blazers. But it's good that we're confirming that we know that Chauncey Billups. And only I mean, we I just saw him. So, you know, and the Pistons are above 500.

Chapter 2: Who stood out in the Blazers vs. Knicks matchup?
Right. He was awesome. Awesome. I mean, most of his points were in the second half. And to your point about the decisiveness, he was so decisive at trying to score the ball in the fourth quarter. There were multiple possessions in the last two minutes. He hit that crazy bank shot three, then got downhill, finished in the lane, then got downhill, drew a foul.
His decisiveness at what he wants to do, the way he's leveraging his explosiveness in the paint to get to the rim, All of that is really fun to watch. And I have this fun nugget for you. So last season, Scoot Henderson had 10 games where he scored 20 plus points. Since January 1st, he's already had eight games, including tonight.
So he's been such a decisive score over the last, I don't know, about 30 games for the Blazers. And they've been 500. And look, there are so many other guys we can talk about. And we have talked about with this Blazers team, Tamani Kamara, obviously Shaden Sharp. Donovan Klingin has been pretty good for them as well.
It felt like he was getting a rebound every single time they needed it down the stretch.
He's massive.
He is so big. He had a great block, you know, clutch block in this game. And Denny Obdia had 27, 15 rebounds, five offensive rebounds from Denny.
We could have been talking about the Denny Obdia game winner.
Cause he hit the clutch basket before bridges hit the shot. I mean, that's what I was setting up for. I was like, Oh, I'm going to have a whole thing on Denny, but let's swing it to, you know, again, the Portland man, what they're doing. Yeah. Ethical. It is ethical. They're playing the young guys. They're getting, they're getting real game reps.
We talked to Sean Hyken and I asked him about like, is this the pre-leap? I'm starting to believe that this really is the pre-leap.

Chapter 3: How did the Thunder defeat the Celtics?
They were so consistent. They kept getting into the paint. They were making shots, too. I mean, I think, what was it, S? When the Celtics had shot 22 threes, I believe Oklahoma City had 20 paint points.
Yeah, it was basically that. And the difference in three-point shooting overall was ridiculous. I mean, we know the record. They set the record tonight for themselves. And I think overall, they ended up outscoring OKC by 21 points. in the three-point category. They took 27 more threes than OKC did, which is another level.
Obviously, there's been so much conversation about Boston and the three-point shooting and the kind of identity that they've had throughout with this. For what it's worth, I thought they got a lot of great paint touches that led to those threes. And they got so many good looks because of that.
Do you think that that's just going to be the recipe moving forward or are they willing to adapt and try to actually score in the paint?
Well, like I said, with, with Porzingis, it's going to be different because you're going to be posting up a lot of those switches. And then the, the, one of the big stories tonight was just Jalen Brown was not good. Jalen Brown did not have a free throw attempt. He fouled out of the game. He finished five for 15. He's the one who really puts pressure on the rim for them.
He's the one who scores in the paint and draws free throws and all that. And he just wasn't sharp.
He didn't look like he had much juice watching on TV. He would hit the floor and just kind of slow getting up. I thought he looked like he got maybe a little shaken up after he attempted that post up on Shea and Shea was able to fight him off.
I don't know if you remember that play, but I was it was odd watching him out there because usually he's just such a more of a bull in the China shop when when they need that. Right. He attacks the basket. And without him doing that, it just felt like. they didn't scare the Thunder's defense hardly at all.
Before we move off the Thunder and get to the Celtics, I do want to talk about Chet Holmgren because I do think the Porzingis-Holmgren matchup, if we do see this in the finals, and man, that would be a great finals. I think that that... is what's going to swing the finals. It's which of those guys is best in the series. What did you think about Chet in the game last night?

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the Thunder's win for the playoffs?
Chapter 5: What is the current state of the Timberwolves?
I just trust the Warriors right now a little bit more. I think Jimmy Butler has created an edge for that team. Yeah, they're better right now for sure. Yeah, but also there's this thing where Jimmy Butler gets to help give them this push to the playoffs, right? He's nice and fresh, so he's able to pick up. Whereas Minnesota, this has been a grind for them this year.
Guys have been in and out of the lineup. They've been playing around with that starting lineup. And it hasn't gone exactly to plan. So, I mean... All that being said, you've got a team with that much talent. If they are the seventh seed, and right now Memphis is the two seed, if they catch Memphis, yes, they can win the first round. If they catch Houston, yes, they can win in the first round.
And as we saw against the Nuggets, I think they've got a chance against the Nuggets. There's something there in that matchup.
Yeah, they play incredibly physical with the Nuggets. And one of those aspects is Jamal Murray. Adam Mara is actually a DMVR sports. He tweeted this, but this was something that caught my attention too. Since the beginning of last season, including the playoffs, Jamal Murray has been held without a made field goal in a half five times.
Four of those five times have been against the Minnesota Timberwolves. So they do a really good job of pressuring him. Like they do a great job of making it tough on him. And I think that makes this a good matchup for the Wolves generally. How that looks in a postseason series, especially when it's now Julius Randle and Dante DiVincenzo instead of Cat, that's a question to be had.
But they're frisky. I do think they're pretty frisky. I think the right matchup, Dave – I mean, well, that's anyone.
But I think that Memphis Memphis is just they are just a prime example of a team that is built to win in the regular season that I just don't think has it in the playoffs. And yeah, if Minnesota catches them. I could definitely see that happen. Guys, stick around after the break. J. King goes way off the rails. No, I'm kidding.
J. King actually is talking more about the Oklahoma City Thunder after the break than maybe the Boston Celtics. And it's because they were amazing. We have another game of the year candidate after last night's thunder Celtics game. And we convinced Jay King to hang out and talk to us after the game. Jay, you got a chance to see the Oklahoma city thunder up close.
I know you cover the Celtics, but you watch as much basketball as anybody. What was it like seeing them up close? What do you think?
