Chapter 4: How does Sasha Colby define success in her career?
I would love to know a little bit more about your lore. I'm very familiar, but your background as far as how you got into drag, what made you want to get into drag, all of that.
The lore of Sasha Colby. I mean, born already kind of knowing that I was trans at like five. Yeah. You know, when they start separating you at school by gender. Yeah. It's like, why can't I go with my friends? My girls. Oh, he's born. Yeah, I knew at an early age, but I didn't have a way of expressing it or, like, know what that was. Yeah, totally.
Although there were so many examples, especially in Polynesian culture. Absolutely. There's so many examples of trans people just, you know.
Chapter 5: What insights does Sasha Colby share about navigating social media?
Wahoo people. Everyone has a trans auntie or uncle, you know. Absolutely. Fafafine is very common. Unwittingly, I, you know, was exposed to what Hawaii had to offer, but didn't really, like, come into it until... I think when I started dance. I was like sophomore in high school.
What kind of dance did you love?
I did ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern, tap. So all of it. All of it. Everyone bought hula. Yeah, they wouldn't let me because I wanted to do hula with the girls. Oh, yeah.
That's a good point.
Chapter 6: What are the cultural nuances of beauty standards in Polynesian communities?
Very binary. Yeah.
Right.
Ironically. Ironically. In dance it is. Yeah. I think it was around that time I started just performing like as a dancer and learning dance and like meeting my gay friends who are still my friends to this day. They're all Hawaiians from Oahu, and we all grew up in, well, we all grew up all over Oahu, but our dance studio is based in Kaneohe.
Love.
Called 24-7 Dance Force Studio. Shout out.

Chapter 7: How does Sasha Colby address the topic of hate and bigotry online?
When we're tied.
I went to the University of Hawaii, girl. Period. I'm a rainbow warrior till I die. Period.
oh my gosh i love that go bows go bows period we i mean it was 20 it's called 24 7 so i literally it was 24 7 yeah and twerking yeah and i was like uh you know there were the kids that their parents could afford it and then there were us kids whose parents couldn't so we were on scholarship which meant we had to like do the front desk and help people sign in and then after each class we had to clean oh
I don't want to talk about child labor laws here. I was going to say. I was going to say.
But it was all for free classes. But we were also required to take everything. So I think that really molded me because it made me be a well-rounded dancer. So I just kind of always loved performing. And then right around their high school graduation is when I started to see drag shows. That was...

Chapter 8: What advice does Sasha Colby give to aspiring Pacific Islander entertainers?
and sign me up yeah you were like you were sold you don't have to sing i know can you sing i can't lip sync for a reason i can't sing for shit either well i'm like the only someone in the world that didn't get hit with that jean i'm i'm just saying i'm pissed i mean i'm upset about it yeah can you olelo
I mean, I'm not going to disrespect my ancestors right now.
I know that shit's hard. Arguably harder than singing. When I was going to the University of Hawaii, like it's a requirement that you take a Hawaiian studies course when you go. And so my kumu was like, first of all, came to school barefoot every day, period. Love that. And then second, he could olelo so he would do it all the time for us, which I'm fascinating.
Yeah. And it's powerful.
So when you got into drag, other than the fantasy of it all, the pageantry, or the attention, which we all love attention, right? I mean, you have to to do this. You have to love attention to some extent. What drew you to drag? What made you want to really commit to it?
I think drag, just because its origin is based on a fringe art form that was created for people who are not allowed in everyday spaces and weren't allowed to be. And so we made this safe space for us to create and be and express. And it got so... Popular now, you know, it's such a cultural phenomenon, this little queer thing that is now for everyone to enjoy.
That's the thing that really excites me is the fact that you could be anything you wanted to be, even if the world said you couldn't.
Yeah, absolutely. And obviously you're on Drag Race. Obviously everybody knows that. And I'm curious, how was your experience on Drag Race? Did you have fun? Because most of my friends who have been on there, they're like, oh girl, you couldn't pay me to go on there again. Well, I had a good time. Spoiler alert. I had fun. You had a great time. I'm not traumatized at all. You're right.
The ones I talked to did lose. I'm kidding. I love you. You guys know I love you.
