The Five

“Neutralize Threats”

18 Mar 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

4.402 - 61.835

Hello, everyone. I'm Dana Perino, along with Kennedy, Harold Ford Jr., Lawrence Jones and Greg Gutfeld. It's five o'clock in New York City, and this is The Five. Did you brief the president if he starts a war of choice? that the likely result would be that Iran would strike adjacent Gulf nations and close the Strait of Hormuz. I have not and won't divulge internal conversations.

0

62.056 - 85.472

I can't get a word in edgewise. He won't answer the question, and then he's taking a minute of my time. You're both big boys. You can handle it yourself. Did he know this was going to happen, or did he just disregard it? Was it the intelligence community's assessment that nevertheless, despite this obliteration, there was a, quote, imminent nuclear threat posed by the Iranian regime? Yes or no?

0

85.633 - 103.063

It is not the intelligence community's responsibility to determine what is and is not an imminent threat. That is up to the president. Some other big epic fury developments. Israel killed yet another top Iranian leader. This time it was the regime's intel chief. And remember the bunker busters. Well, the U.S.

0

Chapter 2: What key issues are being discussed regarding U.S. foreign policy?

103.103 - 117.802

military just unleashed multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator bombs on Iranian missile sites all along the Strait of Hormuz. And speaking of that very important shipping lane, President Trump is posing a hypothetical to NATO allies posting on True Social.

0

118.382 - 141.027

I wonder what would happen if we finish off what's left of the Iranian terror state and let the countries that use it, we don't, be responsible for the so-called straight. What would get some of our non-responsive allies in gear and fast? So a lot of things moved forward on this today. Let me just turn over to you, Kennedy. I'm not sure where you want to land. Well, thank you very much.

0

141.188 - 165.235

I will try and Mary Lou retin this. I think it's good to see our intelligence apparatus grilled on Capitol Hill is very interesting because they did take some incoming from both parties. And there is. A little bit of a fracture within the Republican Party. There are people who are very supportive of the president. And, you know, politically, we've talked about it on this show.

0

165.275 - 187.486

They're worried about the midterm ramifications of a war that won't wrap up. And it's also the kind of thing. And everyone who has studied Iran knows this. If you're going to start an incursion there, you're going to have to finish it. because otherwise Iran will do what the Taliban did and just wait it out in order to ascend to power once again.

0

187.546 - 203.828

Right now, the Iranian regime is in what is called a rump regime, which is just essentially the remnants of the hardliners. They are hanging on fast and furious. But they have seen this coming. And for them, it's not life and death in this world. It's the next one.

203.928 - 222.649

And if they're going to kill tens of thousands of their own people, you better believe they're going to fight like hell to stay and hold on to power as long as possible. My worry is how long is as long as possible? And what will it take for this president to finish what they have decided to start?

222.629 - 242.488

Harold, the NATO Secretary General, Mark Rudy, who has a good relationship with President Trump, I think we could say, he said that they're starting to have these discussions about NATO helping out, at least because, as President Trump said, it's not really where we use all of our shipping to go through. They do.

242.528 - 248.133

And, of course, as Caroline Levitt said this morning, we want the world to do well and we need some help here.

Chapter 3: How is Iran's military strategy impacting Gulf nations?

248.213 - 265.279

Are they going to come in? First, it's good to be with everybody. We should be honest. One of the reasons that we want their help is that we need their help. I think the president, when he goes off on his tangents at times and says, we can do this all by ourselves. We need no one. We're the United States. We're the most powerful country in the world. We are indeed the United States.

0

265.339 - 283.559

We are indeed the most powerful country in the world. And we have the most important and powerful military in the world. But we need their help. Why? Because the oil market is a global market. We've essentially taken 10, conservative number, 10 million barrels of oil a day off the global markets. We use 100 million as a world. We use 20 million of it a day.

0

283.58 - 304.711

And the Chinese use between 10 and 12 million. So as much as we say that they use it and we don't use it, it's really a fiction. We are using it because we we all take from this global market, too. I was pleased to see the Democrats give the military the credit. I've been many of us around a table, including myself. And it's insane. This is not the time. Joy was on a few days ago.

0

304.731 - 323.055

Joy Jones saying. And I agree with him. This is not the time. to not be funding our military, to not be supportive of our military in every which way, which is one of the reasons I think you have to open the Department of Homeland Security as quickly as you can. And whatever blame comes my party's way or the Republicans' way, let it fall. But that agency needs to be open.

0

323.035 - 340.217

I thought the oversight questions asked by some of the committee members, particularly the Democrats, and I didn't see all the Republicans. I assume they ask some of these questions as well. And if you listen to Kennedy's answer, which you have to believe that there are some Republicans who have questions about this. The first is, you know, how imminent was the threat?

340.197 - 352.595

We probably should ask that maybe a little bit later, but I do think that question is a legitimate question, considering that Ms. Gabbard evidently omitted some of this from her remarks because she said she was rushing through her testimony.

353.076 - 366.576

Two, do you believe, and I didn't hear Mr. Ratcliffe answer, do you believe we're going to have to put ground troops on the ground to recover the uranium if we get to a point where regime change is indeed something we can look forward to? Finally,

366.556 - 386.339

I was in Congress when we had Intel come come before saying that when your old boss and we were in the Congress trying to decide, should we give the president the authority to go into Iraq? And many of us decided to give him that authority. We learned later that perhaps I think the president even learned later that maybe all the Intel was not quite what we thought it was.

386.74 - 406.084

So I understand where these people are coming from, Democrats and Republicans alike. And President Trump won. Four years or a few years ago and eight years back because he said he didn't want to get into these these these long, long wars. So these are legitimate questions. And, you know, again, I'm just I'm happy that we're supporting our military.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of President Trump's hypothetical NATO scenario?

462.327 - 480.353

But they grilled these men and women today without first applauding what their agency has been doing, which is locate the targets. They're every move. These people can't even go out for a stroll without being targeted. And so I think... We're at a critical time right here.

0

480.614 - 496.058

And when you talk about national security, when you talk about the battlefield, they could have been asking legitimate questions. Also, I hate the new terminology that everyone seems to be using, which is imminent threat. OK, well, are we just going to just let our enemies? What was it?

0

496.038 - 513.118

Imminent when it was two assassination attempts from Iranians on the president of the United States of life, or when they threatened our former national security advisor, and they're still under protection, secretary of state, number one state sponsor of terror. Like, when did we start saying if it's imminent or not?

0

513.339 - 532.285

I'm sorry, if you're in law enforcement or in any other threat, and you use that standard to judge what is it, you'll be dead. And so I think when you finally got... A president that's taking action on things. Now, if you look at the media, they will say that the world is on fire. I disagree with that.

0

532.585 - 553.535

When you look at Cuba, when you look at Venezuela, when you look at Iran, you see liberation in play. Kamala Harris was supposed to deal with the root causes for why people are immigrating to America. You got a president that got rid of the root causes, which is their oppressive leaders right now. So, I mean, I just wish I understand that is Congress and half of their job is theater.

553.936 - 573.055

But when you have some of the most pressing issues going on in the world, you would think they would be asking serious. I don't mean you or Greg, but it was it was it was President Trump's own counterterrorism director that talked about the imminent. So that's where I was coming from. And I think those questions are legitimate questions to ask. And your answer is a powerful answer.

573.275 - 589.714

But there was a Republican. who resigned from his job working for the president, who is a MAGA supporter, who invoked the word imminent. So that's where I was coming from. That guy's a crook. And I mean that in a character way, not in a legitimate, like he doesn't steal things, but he's a crook. Go ahead. All right.

589.734 - 609.872

So I don't like criticizing people who are anti-war because at some point I'm going to be in that corner. Like if we decide to invade Greenland, I'll probably be against that. But I wonder about the motivation here, not among Republicans. but among Democrats and how quickly they've galvanized, given the success and the effectiveness of the last two weeks.

610.373 - 627.858

And the people that are so much against it are these outspoken, once outspoken hawks that were like, let's go in, let's get Iran. And now they're not. At least Republicans have been consistently anti-war, the lot that you hear from. But you can't get much better a result than what you're seeing now in so short of a time.

Chapter 5: What internal divisions exist within the Republican Party regarding military actions?

658.152 - 679.58

Yeah, it's Monsanto. They loved Elon Musk, who made electric cars cool. And then, of course, they're somehow correlated to Trump early on. They are hated. Iran was hated, and now it's linked to Trump. Now they're the victims, even though they've killed 30,000 to 40,000 of their own supporters, upset supporters, citizens. But you see my point.

0

680.561 - 699.533

Imagine your house is on fire, and the firefighters come to save your family. They do. But you're mad because those firefighters voted for Trump. Or you're against the best surgeon in the world operating on your kid because you found out he donated to Trump. You're going to punish yourself not over the behavior or experience of somebody, but their beliefs. And that's on you.

0

699.633 - 725.502

Every single decision it seems they make is based on their relationship to Trump. Personal, professional, political. It's a narrow, myopic position to be in, forced to cheer on terrible things. because Trump doesn't like them or condemn good things because Trump likes them. It's guide by belief and not behavior. How do you explain Joe Kent? Joe Kent? How do I explain him? They say he's crazy.

0

725.562 - 744.484

I just look at his tweets. Yeah, the past. I mean, they're totally contradictory. Exactly. That's what I'm saying. There's something. Well, maybe he just changed his mind, though, Greg. I mean, I hear my only point to you guys. I think everything you're saying, there's a legitimate point to it. But the reason we're having this conversation is because the Strait of Hormuz is closed.

0

744.905 - 763.375

If oil prices were down, food prices were down, fertilizer and helium and sugar prices were down, we wouldn't be having the conversation with the fury that we're having. There's no doubt there's some Democrats that just knee jerk reaction is to dislike and to hate Trump. And I don't I don't I don't I don't believe that. But I do think it's important to ask basic questions about.

763.355 - 777.851

Do we believe we're the only ones that can end this war? I don't. I think Iran is going to have a say in when this war ends because of their drone technology and other things. So I do wish they'd asked some of those questions. Lars, again, you and Greg, I don't like all of the Trump, Trump, Trump's terrible, terrible, terrible.

777.871 - 795.835

The hawks in my party who like the war, like who are not opposed to war, but just don't like it because of him. Put those guys to the side. But there are legitimate questions. And I think Kennedy raised some of them. And I'm trying to raise some of them. And I don't just dismiss Mr. Kent because this guy... I didn't bring him up. You did. And I just that's my gut.

796.016 - 820.16

My gut feeling is that there's something up there. Don't forget, like one of the big things that is emerging is this criticism that started early on in the war, which is that Israel made Trump do it. And the president's rejected that, Caroline. They've all rejected that except for that there is a strain that wants that to be the issue. But that has been disproven by history.

820.461 - 838.848

You have 40 years of Trump talking about Iran. He said what he was going to do to Iran in the 80s. He actually telegraphed what he was going to do to the island of Krag or whatever it's called. And it's also interesting because Joe Kent was supported by President Trump to run for office twice. And then he lost that seat.

Chapter 6: How does the intelligence community assess threats from Iran?

838.928 - 854.52

So now that's a Democrat seat. Something happened. A position at the administration. Something happened. I admire for him for resigning. If he came to the conclusion that he could not support it and he resigned. Absolutely. That's what he should do. I. I think you guys are going on limited information. That's all I'm going to say.

0

854.621 - 869.991

If we were doing this as a segment, I would probably have more to say. But I'm telling you right now, you brought this up in a laudable way. And I'm suspect of his intentions. And you could be right. You know what? You could be wrong, too, brother. He could very well. I'm never wrong, Harold. I thought you knew that.

0

870.545 - 906.217

0

930.986 - 952.173

Your party's about to wreck spring break for millions of drunk college kids. Travelers are shown up three hours early to the airport waiting on TSA lines as long as Adam Schiff's pencil neck. And that's before agents who aren't getting paid tell you to spread them. It's all because the Democrats won't budge on funding the DHS, even with the Trump White House wanting to make a deal.

953.695 - 975.934

The DHS shutdown also causing a brouhaha between these two lawmakers. Senator, I was hoping that we could. Why don't you tell your Democrats to vote to pay the employee? Let's do it. Let's do it. No, you do it. I voted for it time and time again. Let's talk for a second, Senator. There's a bipartisan bill to fund just the TSA. Can we do that together? Not acceptable.

976.154 - 994.724

Not acceptable to fund just the TSA. How about all the terrorist attacks like we see down on 6th Street? Do you want those to continue? These people are keeping us safe. Tell the Democrats to vote. That was scintillating. Dana, permission to use an analogy. Okay. All right. Here you got the Dems are once again putting their politics above your pain.

995.586 - 1019.711

Is this any really different than activists blocking highways to ruin your commute so you just give it to Trump? Nope. And we talk about the lines that the passengers are going through. But I got to tell you, these TSA agents, this is absolutely unfair. We had a woman on newsroom this morning. She represents the folks in Durango, Colorado, and she's just so compassionate for them.

1019.731 - 1037.701

Her name was Angela Grana. How was she doing, by the way? She was great. No, but actually, you know what? She was deeply sad and deeply worried. She had served after 9-11. She had never served in the military and wanted to serve her country. GSA was a great place to do that. She's like, walk a mile in their shoes.

Chapter 7: What challenges do military personnel face during government shutdowns?

1054.65 - 1073.522

Like, actually, it's the Republicans fault all along. It's like we're not dumb. Yeah. And the White House has said we are willing to come this this far towards your way. And the Democrats don't realize they are on the losing end of this and they're not willing to make it better. Last thing is, even if they were to come to that. table today and say, OK, fine, sign the deal.

0

1073.682 - 1092.69

It's going to take a while to get all of this through. So we're talking about another couple of weeks of this. Yeah. And but like you said, they don't feel the pain. Lawrence, are the Republicans doing all they can do to call this out? I mean, that little clip there doesn't inspire me to do anything other than take a nap. We get distracted. Yeah. I mean, you know.

0

1092.67 - 1107.764

I go back to the State of the Union with the president, and I understand that he can be hyperbolic sometimes, but when he called them crazy, they are legit crazy. Like, I mean, you see the lines happening. I think at DFW over the weekend was a four-hour wait through the security line.

0

1108.064 - 1131.891

Then you find out that 80% of our counterterrorism analysts that are part of DHS, we're literally at war, right, with the number one state sponsor of terrorists, and you don't have our analysts at their desk right now? I mean, that's crazy talk. I don't know. I think every time you look at the polling, though, somehow Republicans get the blame. Now, Tom Holman went over there and met with them.

0

1132.073 - 1153.086

The cops now are going to have the badges out, identification. They already got the funding for the body cam. They've given them everything they want. What more do you want? The warrants? At least if you're going to make a stupid fight, at least be for voters that can actually vote for you. You're doing all of this for people that cannot vote. They're not citizens in this country.

1153.066 - 1170.653

And that just doesn't make any sense to me. Like, who's going to benefit? Who's going to go out and say, I'm happy about this, because you protected my rights. All of those people are not in the country legally. Yeah, and they're also not flying, so they don't care either. Because they need a real ID now. Yes. They can't qualify for one. But I don't have a passport.

1170.673 - 1201.555

Well, you need a real ID to get a passport. That's the problem. See? OK, Kennedy. Yes. TSA agents. This is proof that Democrats really do bleed you dry. TSA agents to make money to make ends meet are actually donating plasma. Yes. And Harold, stop laughing about it. Harold, that's not funny. My friend, my Bible study partner. Shame. Shame. They're donating plasma. They're driving Ubers.

1202.397 - 1222.326

They are getting on OnlyFans, some of the attractive ones. Which ones? And they're resigning. That's the problem. They're resigning and they're calling out because they cannot... stomach going in on a Sunday morning at four in the morning to face lines of cranky people when they cannot even pay their bills.

1222.948 - 1241.187

And, you know, the woman that you interviewed today on Newsroom, Dana, she was talking about two people who've already been evicted. So, you know, these are people the best case scenario is you earn sixty six thousand dollars a year working at the TSA at one of the New York City airports. Most TSA agents don't make that much money.

Chapter 8: How do political dynamics influence public perceptions of military actions?

1255.613 - 1279.157

It's like the people who go to the Louvre and throw tomato soup on the Mona Lisa. It's like the people who glue their hands to the arena floor. Just let the Zamboni run over all of them metaphorically. Because you are not getting anyone on your side. Anyone who is traveling to a funeral, a work event, or trying to come home from the hepatitis and fentanyl at spring break.

0

1279.477 - 1303.207

They just want to get through the airport. They don't care about your political cause. They know that Kristi Noem has already been relieved of duty. Yeah, and you know, Errol, thanks to this, I missed the wet t-shirt contest in Fort Lauderdale. I had to do it myself. Alone. Look, I watched part of the hearing today with Senator Mullen, who's the nominee now for DHS.

0

1303.969 - 1324.085

And he walked if you listen to it closely, he walked away from a lot of the things that Democrats have been critical of. And in many ways, it was kind of a rebuff of of the former secretary, Ms. Noem. I think some of the Democrats should understand this drowning in politics on this issue is not not the way to go.

0

1324.526 - 1346.128

I've always said and I offer legislation when I was in Congress and we had these shutdowns to say when there's another shutdown, we in the Congress and the executive branch, we should not be paid. Right. And because if we get paid and everyone else in the stock trades. They all do it. So but we should not be paid. And this issue here, everybody thought DHS irony.

0

1346.148 - 1363.1

I've heard Dana talk about it on her show and this show that the thing that Democrats are most concerned about, the immigration officers in law enforcement. They're funded fully. So the people that we are denying funding are the counterterrorism people and, more importantly, what we see here today, the TSA agents.

1363.621 - 1386.271

But I dare Democrats who are big on talking about this stuff, offer legislation tomorrow to make it where you guys don't get paid until every part of government is open and people don't have to be inconvenienced like they're being inconvenienced at our airports. And that is coming from dark money who always gets paid. Oh, my God. You guys must have had a heck of a Bible study today. Yeah, J.B.

1386.311 - 1427.041

Pritzker had a supersized night after voters gobbled up his hand-picked candidate. Join Fox in supporting our troops. From daily needs to global emergencies, help us be there for those who serve. Visit go.fox slash Red Cross to donate to service to the Armed Forces today. The Democrats high roller is proving his weight. Governor J.B.

1427.081 - 1449.343

Pritzker is picked to be the Democratic candidate for Illinois Senate. Julianna Stratton cruised to victory last night thanks to his checkbook. And Big J.B. isn't done tipping the scales. The heavy hitter telling The New York Times about Project 2029 and his plan to lock up MAGA. What is a Project 2029 agenda look like?

1450.437 - 1468.944

One is we've got to restore the rule of law, and that means holding people accountable who've broken the law. I'm talking about in this administration, when we get a new one, the people in this administration who've broken the law and federal agents who've broken the law need to be held accountable. And that means criminally prosecuted.
