Chapter 1: How can I get the most from listening to The Hypnotist?

1.415 - 24.35 Adam Cox

Hi, it's Adam here. And I thought I would create an episode given that the show has been going for six years now and has over 2,200 episodes to actually show you how to get more out of the show, how to use it in a way that actually enhances your life. So it's not passive and it's actually beneficial for you.

0

24.37 - 46.997 Adam Cox

So what I thought I would do is spend 10 minutes and give you the tips, the tricks, the insights that will enable you to get way more out of the show than just a passive listener. Now, for those people not familiar with me, I'm a hypnotherapist. I've been the host of The Hypnotist for six years.

0

46.977 - 71.601 Adam Cox

And during that time, we've had 20 million streams, which absolutely boggles my mind as to how many people have listened. That's 20 million streams, downloads and views across places like Spotify and YouTube and Apple podcasts. So if you've listened to the show before, thank you, because you've contributed to those numbers.

0

71.581 - 96.627 Adam Cox

And as I said before, there has been more than 2,000 episodes approaching 2,300 episodes. So in addition for me giving you all of the insights and tips as to how to use the show for you, I also thought it might be beneficial to actually give you 10 of my favorite hypnosis sessions of the 2,300 episodes.

0

96.607 - 107.127 Adam Cox

So if you're interested, wait to the end of this episode and there will be a link that gives you access to my 10 favorite episodes.

Chapter 2: What misconceptions do people have about hypnosis?

107.147 - 136.468 Adam Cox

So hang around for that. So whether you've listened loads before. or this is the first episode that you're ever listening of the show, this is the one to listen to because it will help you get more value from all of those other sessions. One of the questions I get asked a lot is what is hypnosis and is hypnosis control and do I have to lose my memory?

0

136.448 - 157.933 Adam Cox

And I would sum this up by saying that the biggest misconception that people have about hypnosis is that it's something that happens to them rather than with them. For those people that think it happens to them, it comes quite often from Hollywood movies or stage hypnosis shows that they might have seen.

0

157.913 - 174.833 Adam Cox

But when you think that it happens to you, there's this idea that you just kind of switch off. You're just very passive and the hypnotist talks at you and then suddenly a change takes place. That is not true. Hypnosis happens with you and it's a collaborative thing.

0

Chapter 3: How does hypnosis work collaboratively with the participant?

175.114 - 196.418 Adam Cox

And that's why this show is quite unique because I share real hypnosis sessions based on the session I did with a real client facing a real issue and And I do it in such a way where I protect the confidentiality of the clients that I'm working with. Because for me, real hypnotherapy is done with someone, not to someone.

0

197.018 - 214.617 Adam Cox

And a lot of hypnosis out there is kind of generic scripts recorded for generic people. But that's not how the mind works. The mind likes specificity and that element of being relevant. And that's why I publish so many episodes because I,

0

214.597 - 233.638 Adam Cox

I'm thinking it would be useful for the client that I worked with, but there's 8 billion people in the world, so it may be also beneficial for other people in the world that are similar enough to the original client that I was working with. Hypnosis happens with you, so you are an active, aware participant.

0

234.399 - 257.344 Adam Cox

Some people do get time distortion and they just wake up at the end and they hear me counting up the numbers. That's not that way for everyone. Some people will follow it like a guided meditation that has the added benefit of enhancing their life in some way or helping to facilitate a change. You can't be hypnotized to do something

0

257.324 - 278.151 Adam Cox

you don't want to do if there are things that you want to change you have to want that change to happen and then the hypnosis can align with that but if you listen to a hypnosis session about weight loss and you don't want to lose weight it's not going to do anything for you it has to work with you

Chapter 4: What is the importance of setting an intention before a session?

279.262 - 307.513 Adam Cox

trance feels like focused attention i'll give you a few examples of what hypnosis really is more like if you've read a really good fiction book and you're so immersed in the story that you don't even recall turning the pages or reading the words you're just so immersed in that story that's a trance or if you've been driving a long journey that you've done many many times

0

307.493 - 331.83 Adam Cox

and you're daydreaming while you're driving the car and changing lanes that's a trance state i live in london and if i want to see a lot of people in trance on the london underground or the metro system you're seeing lots of people with arm catalepsy with time distortion focused attention and they're just immersed in that world so doom scrolling is like a trance

0

331.81 - 358.334 Adam Cox

If you can imagine, you can be hypnotized. And one of my favorite metaphors to explain what hypnosis really is like, is like the stabilizers or the training wheels on a children's bike. If the actual stabilizers are there, but you don't pedal and you don't steer, nothing happens, you're just stationary. hypnosis can support whatever change that you want to make, but it doesn't do it for you.

0

358.655 - 387.195 Adam Cox

So that's a useful way of thinking about it. The biggest tip I can give you to get more out of any episode that you listen to is to set your intention. Maybe ask yourself the question, what do I want to be different after this? What belief do I want to change? What would I like for myself that is different from where it currently is? And this is called priming.

0

Chapter 5: How can my environment affect my hypnosis experience?

387.215 - 407.96 Adam Cox

A lot of people know the idea of priming. If I said, you know, the next time you're driving, just say blue car, blue car, blue car, you're going to start seeing more blue cars because you've primed to see more blue cars. So we want to prime your neurology, your neural pathways before the hypnosis.

0

408.481 - 429.32 Adam Cox

And sometimes I'll give you that prompt in the intro where I'm explaining what the hypnosis session is all about. I will ask you to say, think about the change you want to make. So setting an intention is very, very powerful. Directed attention before an experience actually changes how the brain encodes and stores what follows.

0

429.841 - 453.387 Adam Cox

So if you set an intention in any area of your life, if you are playing a quiz and you set the intention of I want to win, you're going to do better than if you just participate. Setting an intention is very, very powerful. You will get exactly the same audio, but you will get a different result. And a good analogy to this is reading a book.

0

454.308 - 465.599 Adam Cox

If you want to buy property and you read books on real estate, you're intending to read the book to influence your ability to actually buy property.

0

Chapter 6: Why is it essential to focus on one area for change?

466.079 - 487.979 Adam Cox

If you've got no intention of buying property and you just read a book on real estate, it's kind of a waste of your time because it isn't linked properly. to an intention. So you would get exactly the same audio as everyone else, but by setting an intention, you're going to get so much more out of the session itself. Set the scene. Now, some people just listen.

0

488.84 - 508.162 Adam Cox

They listen right before they go to bed. There are two things that you can do to get more out of this session. The first is using headphones. I actually use ThetaWave Music As the background music, and that's good to activate the mirror neurons to have deeper levels of relaxation.

0

509.344 - 533.134 Adam Cox

So by listening on headphones, you're going to get a different experience than if you just listen through your speakers and you'll get a more resonant voice of mine as well. but also choose your environment. If you're listening and it's a busy place, if you're listening while you're commuting, and I do say in the intro, you know, don't listen while driving and don't listen while using machinery.

0

533.635 - 548.488 Adam Cox

But beyond that, don't listen in a place where you're going to be interrupted or distracted or disturbed because you're going to have one eye on other things that are going on. The ideal place is to find a place that isn't quite bedtime and

0

548.468 - 567.508 Adam Cox

But it is comfy and it is private and maybe that's a sofa and maybe that's a recliner chair or maybe that is a place that you just feel that you're not going to be distracted or disturbed. That will give you more ability to really hone in and just think about how my clients work with me.

568.609 - 583.997 Adam Cox

My clients aren't doing a session where they're in a busy shopping mall and then they just have their headphones and they do the session. They're in a private place with good internet so they've got uninterrupted experience and they're not expecting people to barge in on them while they're doing the session.

584.418 - 607.742 Adam Cox

So treat it like the original client treated the session and you're going to get more value from the hypnosis. Now, this is the next most important way to get more value from the session. And that is work on one area in your life before moving on. Let's say that there are three things that you want to really change in your life.

607.842 - 618.672 Adam Cox

Maybe you wanna lose weight, maybe you wanna be less anxious, or maybe you want to have a better relationship with money. And there's three things in your life that you wanna change.

618.652 - 636.812 Adam Cox

If you haphazardly just listen to an episode that happens to be recent or you like the title and then you find another episode and then you listen to that one, what you're doing is you're dissipating and diluting the focus.

Chapter 7: What should I do immediately after a hypnosis session?

655.271 - 680.029 Adam Cox

And then work on that area. So if that is weight loss, because you've got more health and energy and vitality, Work on that until you're seeing the progress and then it might be confidence and then it might be money and then it might be, let's say, public speaking confidence specifically. But set the intention as to what you want to work on first. If you jump between...

0

680.009 - 702 Adam Cox

areas and different kind of topics, you're never going to get as much value. And you can think of this as kind of like a magnifying glass. If the magnifying glass skims over lots of different things, it doesn't really kind of condense the sun's rays. But if you get a magnifying glass and you hold it in one spot on a sunny day,

0

702.571 - 725.102 Adam Cox

the sun's rays actually come down and create a bit of a laser beam in that area. So you want laser focus. So pick one theme and stay with it and either give it two or three weeks before you move on to a different area or that you see the breakthrough that you're looking through because you're building a neural pathway, you're not flicking a switch.

0

725.082 - 748.604 Adam Cox

And I also like to think that when you have a breakthrough in one area, then you've got irrefutable evidence of that change. And then you can make something else because you've already got evidence that change is possible. And then it becomes this kind of chain reaction of compounding chains. So results go deeper, not just wider.

0

748.644 - 775.249 Adam Cox

So focus on the most important areas before we move on to the next thing. Make the sessions your own. Now, I would say 99% of the sessions were created for someone else. Therefore, they're not always going to be relevant for you. So stay open to the intention. Think about what you want.

775.45 - 785.295 Adam Cox

Disregard any suggestions that don't really fit or aren't quite relevant for you and hone in to the ones that are.

Chapter 8: How can I access Adam's top 10 favorite episodes?

785.275 - 812.79 Adam Cox

Change sometimes feels uncomfortable. If you feel triggered by an area or you feel inspired, quite often the clients that I actually work with on the other side of the camera, a lot of my sessions are over Zoom. They might have an abreaction if they go back to a certain memory. They might feel liberated. There's a weight off their shoulders. They feel a somatic change.

0

813.652 - 841.075 Adam Cox

So mild discomfort with these abreactions can be a signal of a breakthrough and be discerning but not dismissive. Um, I've had comments where there was like one thing in a hypnosis session that just, uh, wasn't right for them. And maybe I, uh, gendered the person that I'm working with. I said he or she, and they're like, oh, it was amazing. But then, then he said this, um, don't be dismissive.

0

841.355 - 843.919 Adam Cox

Just be discerning if it doesn't quite fit with you.

0

843.899 - 873.535 Adam Cox

totally fine just ignore that and hone in on the things you want to be panning for gold figure the suggestions on the metaphors that resonate with you and you'll get more value from the hypnosis sessions because bear in mind that these sessions were created based on real client sessions they paid for those sessions you're getting the session for free therefore it's never going to be as relevant for you as it was for them because everything was created and customized

0

873.515 - 908.08 Adam Cox

for them The session doesn't end when the audio does the people that I've had the best feedback from They at the end of the session Reflect on the session. That's if they haven't already fallen asleep at that point if you journal Journaling alongside the hypnosis is a life hack. It's a superpower. So give yourself some opportunity to reflect like what came up? What are you inspired to do?

908.982 - 939.111 Adam Cox

And there's an element, there's a window when it ends of self-hypnosis. If you decide or set an intention after the hypnosis session, that's still in that hypnotic window. So write it down if you can or scribble it down or set an intention or link it to a goal and be specific. If you can link it to one thing that you're going to do differently as a result of listening to that session, because...

939.091 - 965.052 Adam Cox

behavior is where the rubber meets the road. You can change how you feel. We can change a belief, but you're only going to believe it when you do something and experience something different. So what are you going to do differently is a nice place to think of there. Okay, so what this show can and can't do. The recordings can create genuine lasting shifts.

965.974 - 992.108 Adam Cox

They can build new neural pathways over time. I've had numerous comments of people that have lost weight, slept better, quit smoking, not by working with me directly, just because. purely by listening to the very podcast that you're listening to now. And it's very, very broad because I work with a broad client base. And these sessions are available at completely free.

992.308 - 1015.839 Adam Cox

I'm a big believer that if I believe in karmic marketing, if I put a lot of stuff out there for absolutely free, even though it does require time for editing and publishing and the management of that, But some of you listening will think, oh, OK, this has been useful, but I want a more personalized experience. That's where I get my clients from, from people listening.
