Chenelle Conquest 0:01
Welcome back to the Pet Industry Mentor Podcast. If you're new here, my name is Chanel. I am a business mentor in the pet industry, former pet sitter and dog walker, turned multi-six-figure business owner, and now apparently a grooming salon owner too. Which does still feel weird to say out loud because I actually know nothing about dog grooming. Not the industry, but the actual task of grooming a dog. Um so today that's exactly what we're going to be talking about. This podcast is really just a place where I share the real side of business ownership. So the lessons, the mistakes, the growth, Pressure, the things people don't usually honestly admit on Instagram because they don't want to stop looking so polished.

We talk a lot about the pet industry here. And really, if you're building any kind of business, especially from the ground up, you'll honestly relate to so many of these conversations. So stick around, even if you're not in the pet industry. And today's episode is a very real behind the scenes update on the salon. If you've been paying attention to socials, you'll know that I just bought a pet grooming salon on the Sunshine Coast in Noosa. How bougie of me. Because things have moved very quickly over the last couple of weeks, we've been Repainting, restructuring, reviewing systems, rebuilding parts of the brand identity. Having staff inductions, looking at numbers, identifying inefficiencies. And just so you know, it's Thursday right now.

And I became the owner on Friday after being told last minute that they We're coming back to me wanting to accept my original offer because I did offer to buy it months ago and got turned down. But that's another story. So this will be like a mini series within the podcast and on my socials, almost like a live documentation of what happens when you fully commit to something scary. Because what you need to know is that I have not Not purchased a successful, profitable business. Who knew no new? You'll see. Stick around. Not when everything is perfect.

What were the first branding and physical changes I made to the salon?

Chenelle Conquest 2:18
Um, not when all the numbers make sense yet, but when you truly decide to back yourself and believe in yourself and just go for it. Because too many people. wait until they feel ready before they take action. And honestly I don't feel ready right now and I've already bought it. You know, I just know that I'm willing to work through the fear instead of listening to it. So whether you are listening because you own a pet business, you're thinking about starting one, or you're in the messy middle of growth, or you just want a really honest conversation about business and leadership. I'm very glad you're here. I shall stop gibbering on and get into the episode. What is the truth about what's been happening?
Chenelle Conquest 3:01
Because I know a fair few of you have already jumped on and followed the page and been watching, and oh, it looks great, it looks pretty, I look busy, I look like I'm in control. But if we remember what I constantly remind you, social media. Can and does make business ownership look very polished and exciting without showing the reality that is sitting underneath it. And the truth is that this has already been, like already been one of the most confronting, stressful, exciting, and eye-opening things that I have done in a very long time. And the difference between This for me mainly and my pet sitting business is that this came with immediate overheads and bills that I am locked into and do not fluctuate with our workload.
Chenelle Conquest 3:50
Like these bills, like rent, um utilities, outgoings, like they are coming whether I like it or not, whether I'm making the money or not. When I bought the salon last week. I knew like I knew I wasn't walking into a perfectly polished machine. Let's just say the sale was incredibly stressful and I did not even have access to profit and loss sheets. Not that my accountant listens to this, but if he did, he would roll over and die. I had no idea what was coming in money wise, what was going out. They refused to share that with me, but I just saw the bigger picture. Like I was not gonna come at it from
