The Russell Brunson Show

The Belief Shift That Made Taylor Welch Finally Break Through | #Marketing - Ep. 27

Wed, 16 Apr 2025

Description

In this episode of The Russell Brunson Show, I’m sharing Taylor Welch’s unforgettable Funnel Hacking Live presentation… a powerful deep dive into personal growth, belief systems, and what it really takes to unlock power and authority in your life. Taylor doesn’t just talk about success... he breaks down how to reprogram your identity, collapse time, and start operating from a completely different level of mindset and action. We talk about parenting, business, God, and the decision that led Taylor to give away his $78M company, all while giving you the exact belief and behavior shifts that helped him build (and rebuild) extraordinary businesses and a meaningful life. This isn’t your typical marketing advice… it’s the kind of internal work that unlocks everything else. Key Highlights: Why most funnels don’t convert (and why selling is the real problem) The difference between force and power in business The moment Taylor realized his identity was capping his income The “belief → emotion → action” framework that runs your life How to stop repeating the same mistakes… and learn the real lesson Why reframing regret might be the fastest path to momentum How to jump time and unlock results in months, not years If you’ve ever felt stuck… like you're circling the same mountain… this episode will challenge the way you think about business, identity, and growth, and show you how to finally get unstuck and move forward with clarity. https://sellingonline.com/podcast https://clickfunnels.com/podcast https://30days.com Special thanks to our sponsors: NordVPN: EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal https://nordvpn.com/secrets Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! Chapter 1: Who is Taylor Welch and what is the focus of this episode?

18.459 - 42.344 Russell Brunson

This is the Russell Brunson Show. What's up, everybody? This is Russell. Welcome back to the podcast. And today I wanted to actually, I want to take you guys to Funnel Hacking Live. Are you cool with that? Funnel Hacking Live International, which we also nicknamed Funnel Hacking Live 9.5. It's between Funnel Hacking Live 9 and 10. We basically did a little mini virtual FHL, which was really cool.

0

42.684 - 59.874 Russell Brunson

It wasn't mini, I guess. It was in a virtual studio that held about 300 people in rooms. All my inner circle members were in the room. And then we streamed it out to the masses. And so I think we had over 10,000 people that registered for it. But anyway, one of the presentations was my friend Taylor Welch.

When you encounter greatness, you can be threatened by it or you can be inspired by it. Pick one. Let's be inspired. Let's stand on the shoulders of giants. And there's no one more threatening, if you have a little bit of insecurity, than like king of internet, Russell Brunson. But Russell, I got to say this real fast because it's like, it's real. I just met Russell two days ago. For real, doctor.

0

118.806 - 141.898 Taylor Welch

And I gave him a hug. And you can't feel everyone's energy online, but when you meet them in person, it's like, whoa, this person's big. There's a story in the Bible about a guy named King David. Anybody heard of him? Yes or no? David. David. Whatever. And so there's these mighty men of David.

141.938 - 163.769 Taylor Welch

This has nothing to do with what I'm talking about, but we've got to hit Russell before we keep going because he gave me this mic, and so I'm going to use it. And there are these people around David that are warriors, crazy. One of them, Abishai, he like kills 300 people by himself. Joab, crazy people. But what's fascinating when you study this,

165.04 - 191.424 Taylor Welch

It's years ago, these men were on the front lines of the Israelites afraid of a giant. It's the same people. What changed? There was a multiplier injected into the mix. Russell Brunson, oh, he's a multiplier, man. And I think he's about to go to a new level. If you agree with that, give him something. Give him something. Give him something. I don't know where he is, but thank you.

191.864 - 214.538 Taylor Welch

Thank you for being here. Okay, we're going to dance a little bit. We'll have some fun. I have some slides. I don't know if I'll use them or not. And we're just going to hang out. Do you have something to take notes with? Is this room like crew, family? Like you know who they're voting for? Not there yet. Soon. And very soon.

214.898 - 243.958 Taylor Welch

Raise your hand if you have something in your life that you would like but you do not yet have. All the way up. What we're going to do today, and this is my main job, I want to help you get these things. I want to speed them up for you. I want to make them easier. More effortless. How do we do that? We have to build some power. Anybody want some power in the room? Anybody online want some power?

Chapter 2: How did Taylor Welch begin his journey to personal and business growth?

429.904 - 430.785 Sonia

Yes, absolutely.

0

430.805 - 432.425 Taylor Welch

Okay, Sonia. Tell us.

0

432.465 - 451.271 Sonia

I'm retired military, so one of my things that I would love to be the go-to person for women veterans. I did 21 years in three combat tours. The next thing, I'm on my encore marriage, which means I'm looking for this. My husband now is married 18 years. It's been two years, and I want the best of the best in my marriage, right?

0

451.271 - 473.08 Taylor Welch

I love it. I love it. Can I have a hug? You're the best. Thank you so much. Kyle, you're going to have to be my mic stand. Don't talk in that. Just hold it. If you want to talk, I guess. Whatever. All right. Check this out. So here's what we're going to do. We're going to speed up a little bit. And what I want to tell you is I want to tell you how I learned some of this stuff. Is that okay?

0

473.781 - 502.882 Taylor Welch

We good with it? I should have. Hey, here's what I'll do. If you like something, just say nugget. That was genius. I was like, my man, I'm stealing that. That's good. This is me saying wah, wah, wah. Man, I am a case study for this stuff. I got started in business. I was 24 years old, had no money. We lived off of Taco Bell. So we say amen. It's actually not as bad for you as they say.

504.883 - 529.711 Taylor Welch

You just got to use your authority, you know. We didn't have any money. We got married. My wife, every piece of furniture in our house was given to us. I worked at the church full-time, vocational. You don't really join staff at a church to, like, make money. You join for other things. Anybody been on staff at church? Anybody worked vocational ministry? Yeah. God bless you.

533.015 - 556.46 Taylor Welch

And I got married to my beautiful wife. Her name is Lindsay. This is her. And one day, my wife, she takes me to Ruby Tuesdays. We go to Ruby Tuesdays because it's free unlimited salad bar. We just eat and not pay for anything. She says, hey, I think it would be nice, you know, you do you, but to have, like, some money. And I was, oh, okay. okay, you're one of those people.

556.861 - 578.938 Taylor Welch

You just worship mammon. So no, I didn't say that. And she said, I think that maybe the church is not where you're supposed to be. I was like, I'm not going to hell and quitting the church job. Like, cause to me, I was so legalistic and didn't know how to work anything. And so I took her advice literally. I said, I'm going to teach myself how to do this. So I started buying books and,

579.278 - 605.659 Taylor Welch

I started buying more books. One day she came home. Funny story. Can I tell you a funny story? Yeah, thank you for the nugget, Michael. I'll give you something later for that. She came home one day. She was mad. Like, married dudes, raise your hands. You know, like, there's like, I'm frustrated with you. And then there's like, run away. Run away. mad. And she said, what did you do?

Chapter 3: What belief shift did Taylor experience that capped his income and success?

672.606 - 704.049 Taylor Welch

You know what I'm talking about. And so I realized I was programmed and I had a cap. Somebody say cap. Then think about this as like a glass ceiling. But be careful with this. Because some of your glass ceilings are actually gifts. If you grow beyond your maturity to hang on to it, mercy would be not giving it to you so you can keep it. Does that make sense? You sure?

0

705.765 - 725.548 Taylor Welch

So I began to learn these rules and I began to take them seriously and I began to practice them. And all of a sudden we started to get unlocked. I was broke. We got married and I started taking it seriously. And then I was not broke. It happened again and again and again. And I learned this lesson. Repeat after me. Things take as long as you need them. Repeat after me.

0

725.629 - 757.121 Taylor Welch

Things take as long as you need them to take, but no longer. Things take as long. As you need them to take, but no longer. Things take as long as I need them to take. But no longer. Uh-oh, this is a problem. This means that every level that I have wrestled with is really a responsibility issue that if I'm programmed correctly, I can grow past it. Does this make sense? Are you good?

0

757.982 - 785.092 Taylor Welch

She said nugget. I love you so much. Thank you for keeping me going. This happened again when we moved to Nashville. We started the business. We move to a new city with new friends and new environment and something unlocked. We hit a point of no return. I'm going to teach you a little bit about that today. And things unlocked quickly.

0

785.152 - 813.436 Taylor Welch

We went from zero to 4,000 clients, 700 staff, hundreds of thousands of customers. And we did these events all over the world. And it got so big that one day I began to believe that I was entitled to the level that I had climbed to. And this is when you start hearing people say like, no, I'm not willing to do that. Nah, I don't want to work. I don't want to put myself online.

813.796 - 838.45 Taylor Welch

You will never grow past the things that you feel like you are entitled to. And you will never climb over the things that you are too good to do. Does this make sense? Yes or no? So things started building. Some of you in this room actually were here during this season. to which I apologize. It was wild. It was crazy. And then I started having kids. This is my five-year-old daughter.

838.49 - 867.617 Taylor Welch

Her name is Kate. She's on the left. Harrison doesn't like being touched. His love language is like, stay away and give me food and we good. That's all he cares about. And one day, my daughter was three years old. Listen to this. Especially those of you who have kids or you want to have kids and you want to be a multiplier. I was eating breakfast at the Jewel of the South. Cracker Barrel.

869.878 - 889.009 Taylor Welch

Cracker Barrel is where you take people when you want to connect with them. Enjoy some pancakes and have some chocolate milk. And my daughter and my wife were sitting at the table, and I started talking to my three-year-old. You got kids? You talk to them, you know, like, ask them questions. How you doing? How was your day?

889.569 - 912.791 Taylor Welch

And I'm having a conversation with my daughter, and she's not responding to me. And I'm like, what's wrong with you? Look at Lindsey. It's like, you're going to fix your child. This is your offspring. Deal with it. And Kate goes... looks at her mom and her mom says, are you offended with daddy? My three-year-old says, yes. He promised to ride bikes with me and he didn't. She's three.

Chapter 4: How did parenting influence Taylor’s perspective on life and business?

1111.254 - 1127.724 Podcast Host / Advertiser

But that didn't happen. We spent weeks trying to hire the right person, we put listings on all the typical sites, but they got buried under a flood of random applicants who weren't even remotely qualified. It delayed our campaign, slowed our momentum, and ended up costing us tens of thousands of dollars in lost sales. That's why now I tell everyone to use Indeed.

1192.073 - 1217.858 Taylor Welch

I reached this point of no return. I was walking on a beach with my wife. We had taken a vacation. It was about six months, four months after this had happened. And any Jesus people? Yeah, cool. But I'm a Jesus person, and I was walking on the beach, and I was praying about this. I was like, what am I supposed to do? The best business consultant of all time is Holy Spirit.

1218.839 - 1242.2 Taylor Welch

He's way better than any of us. And I was like, what do you want me to do about this? And I feel like God spoke to me, and he was like, I want you to give these companies away. I was like, no, that's Satan. Rebuke you. Never. Not today. We had just gotten professionally evaluated for $78 million. It was a big deal. And he was like, give them away. And I said, I'll make a deal with you.

1242.701 - 1266.727 Taylor Welch

If you tell my wife, I'll do it. And if not, you're the devil. So we ain't doing it. Anybody relate with this? Because hearing from God ain't that hard. Obeying God, very different. It's very different. So I get home to the Airbnb that we're staying at. And I say, hey, Lindsay, I think God might have spoken to me, but probably not. Caveat.

1267.868 - 1291.285 Taylor Welch

I feel like he told me to give the businesses away completely. And she begins to cry. And I was like, yes. I knew this wasn't God. And I said, well, it's okay. It's okay. We don't have to. Come here. Let me comfort you and whatever. She said, no, no, no. God told me that you were going to have to do this two weeks ago. And I said, I'm not telling him.

Chapter 5: Why did Taylor decide to give away his $78 million company?

1836.181 - 1858.03 Taylor Welch

And I'm going to try again the next day. Like, how many of you enjoyed, for real, Annie's story yesterday? Yeah. Oh, my God. It's so powerful when you get to meet someone at the bottom because that's where you see them. That's where you see them. But you have belief. Belief drives everything. If you've experienced self-sabotage, here's what you're experiencing.

0

1858.33 - 1886.874 Taylor Welch

You're experiencing a value system that's only getting met by not moving forward. Make sense? We too deep? You want me to come back up? Stay here? Okay. Okay. If you believe that you can either be a good dad or have a big business, do we see the problem? We have two value systems. Think about your values, antennas sticking up out of your head.

0

1887.174 - 1907.707 Taylor Welch

They go out into the world and they attract certain things. You've got these like radar, LIDAR systems. What your brain's gonna do in the spirit world is it's going to simultaneously try to attract both. It doesn't prioritize them the way you think they do. It's going to say, hey, build the business. Boom, we built the business. We got it. We got it. Hey, be a good dad. You're failing. Boom.

0

1907.947 - 1934.085 Taylor Welch

Got to go back over here and be a good dad. Hey, your business is failing. Boom. Switch back over here. And then 10 years go by and somebody's going back and forth, back and forth. Anybody ever felt this? No matter what I do, it's like I'm not moving forward. Two steps forward, one step back. One step forward, two steps back. You want to delete that? Eliminate it? Say yeah. Say yes, please, baby.

0

1935.466 - 1957.967 Taylor Welch

So here's how we do it. We have to change our belief. We can't just focus on behavioral modification all the time. My five-year-old, I walked into the living room the other day, and I'm glad God hasn't killed us all because as I learn how to parent my kids, sometimes I'm like, disappear, like disappear. She's in the living room, and I walk through, and we have a nanny.

1958.828 - 1987.221 Taylor Welch

And I see her go on the nanny. And then he says, what did you do? And she goes, she growled at her nanny like a little baby bear. I said, Kate Wiles. Her middle name is Wild. I said, apologize to your nanny. And she said, I'm sorry for hitting you. It was a behavioral modification. That ain't going to work. That's not going to work. But as business owners, that's all we do.

1987.281 - 2012.899 Taylor Welch

We're like, if I do A, maybe I'll get to B. But if the identity doesn't change, then your antennas will just force you back. This is why God always changed people's name. If they told him what to do, but he didn't change how they called themselves, it won't work. You have no command over the spirit if you're using an old name for a new assignment. Make sense? This is why it's really hard.

2014.192 - 2037.237 Taylor Welch

When you feel like you're going from one season to another. Because if you fall in love with your assignment, you will never be able to step into the, if you think your assignment is your identity, then you're going to have to drag that thing around like a ball and chain for the rest of your life. So we have to chase the identity, not the assignment. Does this make sense? Yes or no?

2037.257 - 2058.334 Taylor Welch

You want me to keep going? Nugget. Nugget. This is actually a pretty difficult room. I'm surprised. Surprised. A little bit, you know, because you guys are just taking it all in, and I'm like, do I have something on my face, or are you just listening because your brains are working the whole time? So I just, I respect your intelligence.

Chapter 6: What is Taylor’s ‘belief → emotion → action’ framework and how does it impact success?

2124.018 - 2130.321 Podcast Host / Advertiser

That's LinkedIn.com slash C-L-I-C-K-S. Terms and conditions apply. Only on LinkedIn ads.

0

2130.941 - 2161.561 Taylor Welch

All right, beliefs. Let me say belief. Next, next, next. Let me say next. We have our thoughts. Now, our thoughts are different than our beliefs. Here's why. Our beliefs tell us what to feel about our thoughts. Here's an example. Anybody been stuck in traffic? Yeah, bad traffic. Drivers, they should be illegal. You can't vote. You can't live here. Like, it's awful. In Nashville, especially.

0

2162.102 - 2187.767 Taylor Welch

We got bad drivers. They're too slow. And if you're stuck in traffic, let's say you're on your way to a meeting, and you're stuck in traffic. The thought you're going to have, no matter what, is I'm going to be late. True? True? But we don't feel until our thinking consults our beliefs. Because here's what we could believe. We could believe, I'm going to be late. They're not going to listen to me.

0

2187.928 - 2205.874 Taylor Welch

I'm going to get reprimanded. It's going to be the worst thing that's ever happened. I'm probably going to get a divorce because I'm going to get fired. Well, then you're going to be honking your horn and shooting around like a devil. But if our belief is that, well, there's nothing I can do about it, let's turn on some RB, some smooth Russell Brunson music.

0

2209.254 - 2239.021 Taylor Welch

let's listen to the man let's listen to an audiobook let's let's learn see our beliefs they actually they tell us how should i feel about this thing same thing happens with failure by the way so anybody like run a promotion that doesn't work every day and then what do you feel about it Depends on how you believe. Because a lot of people, their belief system is I am what I have.

2240.343 - 2270.384 Taylor Welch

And if your belief is I am what I have rather than I am what I am, then when you run something that fails, you begin to feel all of these things. Insecurity, disbelief, lack of self-esteem. But if you believe something different, you get it, right? You get it. After your feelings, you have actions. And actions run the circuitry of the world. So these are your choices. How you behave is a loop.

2270.845 - 2292.371 Taylor Welch

Draw it back. All the way back. to your beliefs. This is why they keep talking about momentum, right? Momentum, momentum, momentum. Why do you wanna stay in momentum? Because there's a loop, a circuitry, activity goes back and it feeds the belief that drives your feelings. Does this make sense, yes or no? There are only two things that you can do.

2293.932 - 2315.061 Taylor Welch

The people at the top, there's only two differences. They can either do something different or they can believe something different, right? And believing is what drives the doing. Does this make sense? Can we go deeper? You want me to keep going? All right. I'm going to put two minutes on the clock for this one. I want you to go real deep on this.

2315.741 - 2342.753 Taylor Welch

Raise your hand if you have something in your life that you regret fully and truly. Keep your hands up and look around the room real fast. Everybody, without their hand up, don't do no JVs with them, okay? They're not being honest. We're going to do it again. If you've ever had anything in your life that you regret, Hands up. Even King Myron. You have changed my life though. Thank you. Give it up.

Chapter 7: How can you skip struggle and jump time to achieve results faster?

2618.251 - 2641.73 Taylor Welch

Turn to someone right now and tell them something you're grateful for in your past because it had to happen for you to be who you are. Do it right now. Turn to somebody. If you're in the chat, throw it in the chat and tell me you are grateful for something and tell me what it is and why you are grateful for it. You want me to keep going? Go deeper. Okay. Yes, sir. You think I'm crazy? Yeah.

0

2643.171 - 2672.01 Taylor Welch

I love the honesty. Okay, so the mistakes of our past are really nature's research. This is what it is. As you print mistakes into the past, nature gets smarter. And so as you explore, you test the boundaries. This worked. This didn't work. This hurt. This hurts. My one-year-old right now, he is a master at discovering everything that can hurt him. Like stairs, amazing. A stove, I'll touch it.

0

2672.03 - 2696.604 Taylor Welch

This is like, you know, when you're a baby. It's pointy. Let's touch it as hard as we can. Like, what are you doing? But this is the way that research takes place. If you eliminated the mistakes, you just delete a body of research. And you can't make good decisions. How do you learn to make good decisions? You make bad decisions and then make another decision. And you tune the algorithm.

0

2696.664 - 2729.926 Taylor Welch

Is this making sense? Yes. I am grateful for the consequences of my choices. Turn to the person on your left. I am grateful for the consequences of my choice. Turn to the other person. I am grateful for the consequences of your choices. So, so. There's a block here. Because if mistakes are nature's research, why are there so many people stuck in insecurity?

0

2731.828 - 2756.326 Taylor Welch

Why are there so many people stuck in repeating the same self-sabotage over and over? Like a loop. Going around the same mountain over and over. Anybody tired of going around the same mountain? It's like, man, I love this mountain, but we're good. Let's move on. We can't go from one mountain until the next because our research doesn't print unless our meanings are correct.

2758.086 - 2786.243 Taylor Welch

So what the body legitimately does is the body will keep bringing you the same data capsules over and over because, like, if you talk to me in another language, I don't understand it. I don't get it. And the doctor is speaking to me, and she can tell I don't understand it. What does she do? Keep repeating herself. Why? He don't understand it. Like, where is the bathroom? Banyo. Donde? Banyo.

2786.523 - 2812.187 Taylor Welch

Bathroom. Bathroom. Christine could help me out because she's a Latino. A Latina. What? Donde es el baño? But you know what I'm saying. You get the picture? Thank you for showing me up. You keep repeating it. Why? Because they don't understand. What can I do to get this person to understand? Life's the same way. Well, they went through this business. The business failed.

2812.607 - 2834.247 Taylor Welch

There was something that they learned that was the wrong lesson. They got to fail again. They don't understand the language. So we have to repeat it until the lessons are repeated until they're what? Lessons are repeated until they're learned. And so we repeat over and over, but it's not because we're dumb. It's because we're learning something that's not the lesson.

2835.247 - 2863.724 Taylor Welch

How many of you have gotten into a car accident? Raise your hands. How many of you walk everywhere and refuse to drive a car? Why? That would be a lesson. Cars are dangerous. Who's gonna walk to Las Vegas? Wrong lesson. We say wrong lesson. Wrong. So this happens in business. I made an investment in this program. Didn't work. So I'm never going to invest in another thing. Okay.

Chapter 8: What is the difference between force and power in business according to Taylor?

2990.103 - 3017.126 Taylor Welch

I want you to take one minute, 60 seconds, and I want you to write down your best case scenario for your life, your business, your money, your kids. Pick one area. Tell me what it looks like and what it feels like. And I've given you a picture to give you the warm and fuzzies. 60 seconds, falling colors, you can go. So here's the secret to making all of this happen. And, you know, you can...

I think there's some of this material inside of Brunson's stuff. So if you want to go deeper and you haven't joined, then I'm deeply sorry for your loss and figure it out because we ain't got time to go into it. But the secret to skipping zones, jumping levels, and sometimes you'll go through seasons where 10 years happens in six months, right?

And what you don't want is you don't want six months to go by in 10 years. So we have to prioritize accordingly. The secret is we begin to make decisions that the person there would make. Because life goes, hey, I don't really care what this person wants. What do they deserve? What actions demonstrate that they can hang on to the things that they're wanting to get?

So this is all we have to do is we have to then isolate. You should practice this on the plane home. You should think about this. What types of decisions would this person make if they had 100 real estate properties or a $60 million net worth? What would they do? And then you slowly begin to make those decisions. Are we good? Russell, it's zero seconds. I'm going to wrap.

Hey, this is Russell. I had a really cool offer for you right now. Shortly after we launched ClickFunnels, I remember asking some of our top two Comic Club Award winners what would they do if they had everything taken away from it? They lost their name, their brand, their email list, their traffic, everything. All they had was a ClickFunnels account and internet connection for 30 days.

3124.03 - 3141.601 Podcast Host / Advertiser

What would they do over the next 30 days to get back on top? I asked over 102 Comic Club winners, and from that, 30 people wrote me back and gave me very detailed step-by-step battle plans. Day number one, they would do this. Day number two, they would do this. And by the time the 30 days was done, they'd be back on top with a very successful business. Do you want to know what these people wrote?

3142.002 - 3157.373 Podcast Host / Advertiser
