And welcome to Weekend Watch, where every Friday morning we take you through the very best new TV shows and movies so you know exactly what to watch for the weekend. Lighting your candles, pouring your wine, or going to the cinema, which we are recommending this week. We are. Before we get into our big recommendations, you have a TV show and then we obviously have a movie that we have been desperate to talk about all week and we finally, finally can. Can I tell you one quick thing before we get into that?
Okay. And that's that Netflix has dropped their new, just last night, dropped their new kind of like young adult romance drama. I'm already in. You're already in. I know. Like that kind of sells it, doesn't it? Yeah.
I need something to fill in like the off-campus hole in my heart right now.
Well, I don't know if this is quite that, but hey, it's a good placeholder. I actually didn't mind it. It's called Crew Girl. Crew Girl? Yeah. Is she on a crew? Yeah, she is. 100% the title is. The best kind of titles. Tell me what you are. Exactly. They're like, no one put any thought into this. Like, that's a girl. She's on a rowing crew. Crew Girl.

And it's about a 16-year-old girl called Tegan. And she lives in LA and she is the star of her school's rowing team. Oh, wow. But also she's a star rower. She's also a single rower. Like the show opens on her in a rowing race and her parents on the sideline. And it's a voiceover. So she's like, this is me. You know how like teen shows have that? This is me. Those are my parents. They're still crazy in love, which is weird. Anyway, I'm a rower. And like that's her thing. So she wins this big race and her parents are on the sideline and they're cheering her on.
Everyone's cheering for her. Tegan's the golden girl. And then her dad gets a phone call and he says, I'll be right back. And he leaves. And then her mum looks down as she's cheering for Tegan, who's just won this race. And her mum looks down at her phone. There's a message from her husband. And all it says is, I'm sorry. And then two FBI agents storm into the rowing race and say to her mum, like, you need to come with us. Because basically her dad, a tale as old as time in these teen stories, very like the O.C., Her dad, Tegan's dad, has embezzled basically all of their like friends, parents, money and everyone in like her school, their community, because they're all rich. Her dad has embezzled all of their money.
And so he's gone on the run and Tegan and her mom are left with absolutely no money. So they have no money. They have nowhere to go.
