Hello and welcome to the stop looking at me like that. Because every time you look at me, do you know what? I introduced the episode that you weren't even on earlier in this week where we're going, hoo, you you're s you living in my head. Don't I'm gonna close my eyes and go, hello and welcome to the Tifo Football Podcast. I'm Joe Devine, and I'm not looking at John Mackenzie. Hello Joe. Alright, how's it going? Hi. Now what What are we doing on today's episode? Well, it's a ring for analysis episode. Very exciting. Here's how ring for analysis works. I read an article published by The Athletic, and John rings a little bell that sounds like this when he wants me to pause so he can offer some analysis. And today's article was written by Daniel Taylor.
Joe Devine 0:46
It was published on September the 4th, and it's called Who is the Real Enzo Fernandez? Now, we've already recorded today's episode, John, so I I know who the real Enzo Fernandez is. I I don't want anyone to misunderstand though, because I think this int title could be interpreted in a number of different ways. One of which could be is there a suggestion that there are multiple Enzo Fernandezes and we're not certain which the right one is? No, that's not what it is. This is a story where we try to get inside the human brain of Enzo Fernandez, or as we say during the episode, under his skin, you know, under his skin. Enzo Fernandez. What did you enjoy about this episode and talking about EF?
Jon Mackenzie 1:28
Uh yeah, I had to work out who that was briefly. I always enjoy these kind of episodes where we talk about getting under the skin of a player because I think Under their skin under their skin. I think that footballers are interesting and they're more interesting as individuals than we give them credit for. Sure. They're often more complex than we give them credit for. And, you know, there are negative aspects to it as well. So we talked about the racist, uh, homophobic, transphobic song that he was caught singing, uh obviously was was punished for, whether or not he was punished sufficiently is a question we talked about as well. But at the same time I think that he's w whilst that is clearly wrong, there's also elements I think where he's unfairly judged about uh the the way that he behaves on the pitch because you know he doesn't
Jon Mackenzie 2:09
conform to what people expect a footballer to have to conform to. Sure. Sure. And I think all of that makes for an interesting conversation um about, you know, what what our expectations of footballers' behavior should be. Yeah. Yeah. And actually really the whole conversation boils down to do we think that we are actually Bad P.
Joe Devine 2:27
We discover that we are bad people during the episode. Yeah, there we go. How self indulgent of us.
Jon Mackenzie 2:31
Yeah, but we also talked about some fun things too, like goldfish.
Joe Devine 2:35
We talked about goldfish right at the beginning. Oh, do you know what? Right at the beginning we talked about goldfish. We talked about April Fool's Day for quite a long time.
Jon Mackenzie 2:43
It takes us a while to get to the meat of this episode. Meat of this episode. That's true. That's
Joe Devine 2:46
true. Um I would say if you're one of those people that doesn't want to hear the uh asides, just skip this one. Uh also we do we do we talk about River Phoenix and the Phoenix family much later on in the episode. We learn the names of the other the other Phoenix children. Um and uh oh and then we talk about Joaquin Phoenix's uh m discography.
Jon Mackenzie 3:09
Well discography if you get them on Blu-ray.
Joe Devine 3:11
I think discography generally r relates to albums released, but uh sure. Yeah. Well let's go. Yeah. Well let's go. Well look, I've got all of
Jon Mackenzie 3:17
his Blu-ray discs. I've got his discography, right?
Joe Devine 3:19
You've got all of Wacky and Phoenix's Blu ray discs.
Jon Mackenzie 3:21
No, I don't, but like I could do. And in which case I would describe him as his discography.
Joe Devine 3:25
Right, yeah. Do you know what's really funny is the at the very beginning of the episode we debate how recently it was that I said the title of the episode and what we were talking about. And I actually think now it's been sufficiently long enough ago. No, no, no.
