Chapter 1: What are the fixtures for the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship Quarterfinals?
First though, as we've just heard, the fixtures have been decided for the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship Quarterfinals and they promise to be every bit as exciting as this past weekend of sport.
Joining me now for more on this are Marty Morrissey, Gaelic Games correspondent for RT News and Anna Geary, broadcaster, performance and lifestyle coach and of course, former star camogie player. Good morning to you all, you're both very welcome. Marty. Yes. First out of the hat in Silverbridge and Armagh, just there on Morning Ireland, Dublin.
Dublin, yes.
Fresh from their win against Donegal yesterday against Galway. That's a mouth-watering contest.
It is a mouth-watering contest.

Chapter 2: What insights does Marty Morrissey provide about Dublin's performance?
And the Galway-Dublin, there's a history there between the two counties. Great rivalry. And of course, there was a bit of a controversy in the league game, which ended up with Gerb Brennan getting suspended. And that went on and on for over 12 weeks. But certainly, I think we should compliment Ger Brennan because I thought Dublin's performance was one of the best I'd seen in a long time.
His return to the sideline, did that make a difference?
It obviously made a difference, to be honest with you, because, I mean, it must have been very difficult. I mean, you're not allowed to train. So, in fairness to Ger, I think his presence along the sideline, and I think in some ways it has bonded the team together.
That's the only way I could... I mean, I was watching it from Thurles, but they seemed to have a motivation and a bonding between the team that they were going to prove a point, and they certainly did.
Chapter 3: How does the rivalry between Galway and Dublin influence their upcoming match?
And they were very impressive.
Yeah, absolutely. And I mean, they had a couple of slips along the way, but they seem to be hitting their stride.
Yeah, and I suppose that's what the thing is. I love the fact that the draw was live for the first time and you hear the oohs and the ahhs and the nails are coming out. And certainly as a Cork person, when initially I heard that we were against Kerry, I panicked because I forgot. Yeah. Oh no, we can't meet them again.
Just to remind people, there was a couple of pairings that weren't allowed because they'd already... Yeah, so Cork and Kerry couldn't meet each other because they had already met in the Munster final.
Then Louth couldn't meet Dublin because they met in the Leinster. And then Tyrone couldn't meet Mayo. But all four clashes are going to be mouth-watering from the point of view that this is the business end of the season. And I think, much like what Marty said there, Dublin definitely looked incredibly impressive. When you're playing extra time and at that standard, at that pace...
And especially with, you know, I suppose... And it's quite warm as well.
Yeah, exactly.
And, you know, there's definitely something, I suppose, that you have to dig deep, you know. And a lot of people wouldn't have given them a chance against Donegal. Like, that's the truth of it. But Galway, on the other hand, they are coming in under the radar.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the Cork vs. Kerry matchup?
Nobody's really talking with them. Joe Kiernan did say that, I suppose, like that. Which is a good thing. It's brilliant. And they are starting to find form. Players are coming back. So...
Yeah, and is the weight of expectation on Dublin now in that quarterfinal?
I don't know. I kind of think, if anything, Dublin are in a really good position because a few weeks ago, a lot of people were saying they were gone. And when Gerard wasn't on the sideline too, they were saying, oh, the whole thing's up in disarray. So I think it'll be very close.
And it'll be, I mean, to me, Galway have two of the best forwards in the country, Shane Wallace and Damien Comer. And obviously... they have been injured. But now that they're back, they have reached that level again. A bit like Kerry and all their players coming back. I mean, they have four all-stars.
Kerry has four all-stars to come back into their light.
Anna, you mentioned your reaction when Kerry were drawn against Cork.

Chapter 5: How are injuries affecting team performances in the championship?
So that was ruled out. So Cork against Mayo.
Yeah, I wasn't too happy with that either. They always fancy their chances. Yeah, well, as Justin said earlier on, Cork is still on for the double. So I'm happy as a Cork person. I don't know, Anna. No, I think, look, even look, from Mayo's perspective against me, you know, seven points down at halftime, things weren't looking great for them. So,
I think at this time of the year for me, it's not just about who's the fastest, you know, who's the fittest. It also has to come down to that mental resilience as well. And I've listened to Andy Moore and talking about his team afterwards. And he was saying that he was really proud of them, how they dug deep.
And now a few things obviously went against me with the sending off and things like that too. But, you know, Cork for me have shown a form. This year that, you know, even their scoring averages are way up. They're really showing that they have something about them, you know, and I would fancy them against Mayo. I just think their form and kind of it's almost like there's a new lease of life.
The Cork hurlers are going well. There's a buzz down in Cork.

Chapter 6: What challenges do players face with the condensed championship schedule?
I would think that they're going to win it, although I really hope that I'm not the reason now.
I put a jinx on them John Keery is now ringing me saying would you stop Anna Geary making us favourites last weekend I saw both teams I saw Cork against Donegal and I thought Cork were poor in the first half and they just took the shackles off and they went at Donegal in that second half surprising Donegal And like that was a pretty difficult assignment. They took a plane.
To their great credit, I have to say, I compliment them for that because it's an awful long journey from Cork City to Ballet Buffet. But their second half, they just, I think John Cleary said, this is your moment. It's now or never. It's now or never. Take the shackles off and play the football. And then I saw Mayo against Tyrone the following day in OMA. And I thought Mayo were a bit unlucky.
I thought Tyrone were good. But Mayo were a bit unlucky. And then Kobe McDonald. I know he's only 18. He did his leaving cert last week. They have a star. And I hope he stays, to be honest with you, because I think he's brilliant. But I think Mayo, the resilience they showed in that second half at the weekend was, I think, Andy Morin-esque. The spirit of Mayo came through.
Chapter 7: What are the expectations for the Louth vs. Monaghan game?
I know there was a sending off, but I think Mayo... will be quietly confident that they can take Cork but Cork.
I will see those goals though as something that Mayo do. I mean 22 points is great against me but I definitely think if they're going to be beating Cork they need to be getting a few goals.
It has to be Mayo's year some year. It does. I was at the URC final in Croke Park on Friday and Cailin Dorris was lifting the trophy and there was a couple of people in the crowd saying that's the first time a Mayo man has ever done that. lifted a trophy in this place for quite some time.
Well, you know, if you asked me in January, February, even if you asked me eight, ten weeks ago, who would you fancy for the All-Ireland? Like, Donegal and Armagh would have been top of my list, along with Kerry and perhaps Galway, May or Dublin, if you know what I mean. Obviously, Kerry. But, like, Donegal and Armagh are gone. It's extraordinary. It is extraordinary.
And if you look at, I suppose, both ways that they came down to be where they were at this weekend, just gone, you know, like you said, Cork beating Donegal, it probably was against the grain. Then loud, shocking Armagh. I don't think either of those two teams fully recovered, energy-wise and confidence-wise, from a loss like that. To turn it around a week later...
And, you know, I think it's a tough thing for them to do, I think.
And that is a problem.

Chapter 8: Who are the favorites for the All-Ireland title based on current form?
It is having an impact. Yeah, we might talk about that in a minute. I just want to go through the other two pairings, Marty. Tyrone and Kerry, one of the great rivals.
One of the great rivals. I mean, it is All-Ireland finals, All-Ireland semi-finals. We've now got an All-Ireland quarterfinal. And I think Tyrone have been improving steadily. But this will be a major task because I think Kerry are coming good at the right time. I was watching the Sunday game last night and I kind of agreed with Tomas O'Shea.
I think at now, right now, in terms of form, with Donegal and Armagh gone because they would have been two of my favourites. I think Kerry, it's an all-Ireland there for Kerry to lose. And that might be a dangerous thing to say at quarterfinal stage. And now that they're drawn against Tyrone, it levels the playing field again because Tyrone will not fear Kerry.
But Kerry will have an apprehension about Tyrone.
OK, Anna, Louth versus Monaghan. One of those teams is getting to a semi-final. It's a great story.
It is, because if you look back at the start of the championship, would we have thought these were going to be the quarterfinal pairings? And I think that's what people wanted. And I think, you know, there does have to be credit as well around the new rules coming in. I think it's really reinvigorated football. It's given us and it's given all of the teams a chance.
Like even if you look at, I suppose, the two-pointers now, like I love to see that. Monaghan even like goalie Rory Began scoring three of them, two-pointers. It completely changes a scoreboard so fast when you have teams that are capable of doing that now. And for both teams, the supporters, I just think it's going to be a brilliant build up for the next champs.
I'd love the build up to be a little bit longer. And I think that's all around that condensed championship again. You hardly have a time to draw breath. And now the quarterfinals are going to be upon them. But for Lowe then for Monaghan, I think, you know, both of them are coming off the back of really good performances.
And, you know, it's going to be one of those games where I think no matter who wins, it's going to be an exciting, such an exciting semifinal for them all.
