0.031 - 16.302 David McCullagh

that between 30 and 40 of the 50 premises in the business centre have been severely damaged and won't be able to reopen. Among the business owners affected are Blonad McCann from Nomac Productions and Paul Hearn, owner of Celtic Warrior Martial Arts. Blonad McCann, good morning to you. Good morning. I'm very sorry for this news, which must be devastating for you.

Do you know whether your own premises has been badly damaged?

0

42.944 - 64.093 Blánaid MacCann

I think it has, I think, yes. Yes. But I haven't got any great information at the moment because all day yesterday it was in the hands of the fire chief. Still, it hadn't been handed over to the police. Right. But nobody can enter the building anyway. You know, it's just too badly damaged.

Where were you when you heard the news? Just about to have my dinner. I didn't get it then.

70.802 - 77.239 Blánaid MacCann

No, sure. I just ran. And what was it like on Saturday evening?

77.259 - 83.291 David McCullagh

Because I presume everybody who owned the business there was there to see what was happening.

83.432 - 105.929 Blánaid MacCann

Yes, it was devastating just to watch the flames fly up into the sky. And they just didn't seem to be dying down at all. But there was about 14 firefighters there, fire trucks there, you know, yeah. And it was just awful.

106.67 - 109.716 David McCullagh

Yeah, it sounds it. And tell us a bit about your business.

Chapter 2: How did Blánaid McCann react to the fire's damage?

122.696 - 128.143 Blánaid MacCann

And we do it across Ireland. We hire across Ireland.

129.084 - 131.868 David McCullagh

And you've been in business since the 80s, I think?

0

133.009 - 135.452 Blánaid MacCann

Yeah, 88. We started in 88.

135.772 - 137.835 David McCullagh

And how many costumes would you have on the site?

0

139.3 - 144.067 Blánaid MacCann

In the building, I would say I have about 40,000, 50,000 costumes easily.

144.668 - 145.269 David McCullagh

Oh my goodness.

146.27 - 157.987 Blánaid MacCann

Yeah, and some of them date back to, I have some suits that date back to 1921 and they're all gone. Oh, it's devastating.

158.488 - 163.615 David McCullagh

I was just about to say, Blánid, I'm so sorry for you and I can hear it in your voice. It must be just soul-destroying.

164.497 - 180.089 Blánaid MacCann

Absolutely. Absolutely for everybody, you know, for the staff and I just can't believe that it's all gone, you know. And it can't be replaced. There's too much stuff there to even think of replacing. You couldn't.
