Scion "The Siege of Shadow Valley Ranch" Chapter 1: Oaths in Shadow Valley

Four freshly blooded Scions roll out of Phoenix toward the middle of nowhere, trading movie quotes, bad advice, and cheap beer as desert heat shimmers around them. What waits at the end of that dusty road isn’t glory, but work: watching over a small herd of uncanny white cattle, marked with red-tipped ears and worth their weight in silver. Kieran O’Connor, a laid-back but clearly powerful Scion, asks Hassan, Jesse, Nick, and Gary to do something deceptively simple—keep his miraculous herd safe while he’s away. All it takes is an oath, a handshake, and the understanding that if they fail, they’re not just out a paycheck; they’re in trouble with a demigod whose entire livelihood rests on those animals. As the sun drops and the Arizona sky goes indigo, the ranch becomes very small, the desert very large, and the four friends start to realize that anything valuable enough to be worth millions is also valuable enough to attract the wrong kind of attention. Out here, under a sky full of indifferent stars, they’ll find out what it really means to be sworn protectors in a world where myths don’t stay on the page. About the Chronicle The Siege of Shadow Valley Ranch is a Scion Second Edition story set a few months after the events of A Light Extinguished. Returning to the scorching outskirts of Phoenix, it follows Hassan, Jesse, Nick, and Gary—ordinary people turned nascent heroes—as they navigate blue-collar divinity: side gigs, strained romances, cramped budgets, and the sudden responsibility of guarding a god-touched herd. With Wen as Storyteller, and Chris, Craig, Mitch, and Slavic bringing the quartet of Scions to life, this chronicle leans into road-trip banter, workplace camaraderie, and the collision of modern Americana with living myth.
