0.031 - 4.957 Sally McMullen

This podcast is recorded on Gadigal land. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

12.627 - 23.341 Alex Hourigan

Hey chicks, I'm Sal. And I'm Al. And this is Two Broke Chicks, the show that shares life lessons and tips to help make you rich in life. And welcome to our monthly favourite May edition. Well.

0

23.521 - 34.271 Sally McMullen

Well, well, well, well. One more month and we'll be halfway through the year. Actually insane. What would you give 2026's rating so far?

0

40.257 - 52.251 Alex Hourigan

Hmm. Personally, I would give it maybe like a seven. That's been pretty good. For the world at large, maybe like a three. Yeah. I think we've got room for improvement. Yeah, I agree with that.

0

52.271 - 72.631 Sally McMullen

What do you think? I think I'm pretty on par. Yeah. I think... You know, last year at this point in time, I just got another cat. So I'm going to take a point off for that. Yeah. Nothing like super wild, crazy, exciting has happened yet. What about Shannon Knoll at your 30th? Oh, yeah. Okay. No, like 10 out of 10. There we go. Yeah.

72.711 - 92.46 Alex Hourigan

You just needed a little reminder. Yeah, exactly. That was really good. But yeah, I feel like it's just gone so quick. It's gone so quick. Yeah. It's wild. But as we like to do in these episodes, we're going to be sharing all of our faves, our wrecks, what we've been watching, reading, shopping, enjoying this month. So would you like to kick us off? What's your first monthly fave?

92.48 - 118.112 Sally McMullen

Okay, my first monthly fave is a post I saw on Instagram. And it is, is there a best time for everything? Here's what science says. Oh, my God. So the caption says, timing isn't everything. Everything is timing. And it's basically pulled in all of the best times to, like, do certain tasks or make certain appointments. Oh, my God. So are you locked in? Yeah. Okay.

118.873 - 145.248 Sally McMullen

Number one, doctor's appointments. Research shows that 3 p.m. is the Bermuda Triangle of health care. So anesthesia errors are four times more likely. Doctors spot fewer cancers. Hand washing and vaccines rates drop sharply. So morning equals maximum alertness. Afternoon, avoid anything serious. Okay, it's not meant to scare you. What the hell? But, like, the 3 p.m.

145.268 - 147.392 Sally McMullen

slump also hits the healthcare industry.

Chapter 2: How can timing affect your productivity?

211.348 - 213.651 Sally McMullen

Yeah, but you can't wake up. But I can't wake up. Because you're a sleepy girl.

0

213.672 - 220.743 Alex Hourigan

Because I'm sleepy. But I could not get into bed without showering. Like I could not and I wouldn't go to sleep.

0

220.883 - 227.164 Sally McMullen

Are you in no outside clothes in the bed? No, not really. It's not that serious to me personally. Yeah.

0

227.424 - 228.726 Alex Hourigan

Which is probably shocking, but.

0

228.967 - 248.939 Sally McMullen

Robs are no outside clothes in the bed, but our cats are allowed in the bed. Do you know who else has been asked? Who have pee-pee and poo-poo paws from their litter box. So I'm like, how the fuck does that make sense? Like if I go in the bed and he goes, are those clothes you wore to work? Yes. You can't go in the bed. But the fucking cat with pee-pee and poo-poo paws. Can go on the bed. Yeah.

248.98 - 249.6 Sally McMullen

That makes sense.

249.961 - 259.233 Alex Hourigan

But also do you know what else has been outside into work? Me. Like I'm not peeling my skin off and jumping in just as a skeleton being like, ah.

259.253 - 266.161 Sally McMullen

I would love that. I'm just going to draw. I'm just saying like that would be really nice. That's what we need. Yeah, like technology.

Chapter 3: What are the best times for scheduling appointments?

266.182 - 284.627 Sally McMullen

I feel like we need something like boo AI, let me take my skin off. I feel like we could have done something cooler. Rock out as a skeleton in bed for a little while. Seriously, you know that like cartoon, that like Halloween cartoon? Yeah, the Disney one. Yeah, skeletons dancing vibe. Yeah. Okay, exercise. The morning equals more discipline and fat burning.

0

285.047 - 296.002 Sally McMullen

You burn up to 20% more and stay consistent. However, the afternoon equals performance and enjoyment. Your muscles are warmer, lungs are stronger and fewer injuries.

0

296.423 - 304.414 Sally McMullen

Yeah, it makes sense. Naps. The best time to take a nap is apparently between 2 to 3 p.m. and keep it short.

0

305.496 - 306.357 Alex Hourigan

How short are we talking?

306.797 - 339.772 Sally McMullen

10 to 20 minutes equals a focus boost. 30 plus minutes equals a groggy brain. So if you want a pro tip, according to this post, try a nappuccino. I love that. Nappuccino. So drinking is kind of drinking a coffee is the 20-minute nap and you wake up as if you've had a caffeine kick but without the slump. Yeah, I like that. So new beginnings.

339.812 - 359.52 Sally McMullen

If you want to start something new, start on a fresh date. Psychologists call it the fresh start effect. Days that feel like new chapters, i.e. New Year's Days, birthdays, Mondays. Your brain loves clean slates. Use them. And, yeah, that was the last one. I like that. Right? Very good. So efficient. I know.

Chapter 4: Why should you avoid coffee immediately after waking up?

359.54 - 378.405 Sally McMullen

I love a little cheat sheet. Yeah, me too. It's my life. Yeah, honestly. I don't know how I'll go with it. Tell me what to do. With the nap one. One time I had a 10-minute nap at the airport and I can't remember where we were or where we were going, but I woke up and it was like 30 minutes till we were boarding or we should have been boarding. I think we were in Europe.

0

378.74 - 386.867 Sally McMullen

And I woke up and I looked at the screen. I was like, Sally, the screen changed. And you were like, what? And then we had to run through the airport to get to the new gate.

0

386.887 - 392.012 Alex Hourigan

And then, of course, because it was Europe, we ended up sitting there and waiting for like another 25 minutes anyway.

0

392.032 - 395.635 Sally McMullen

We ended up sprinting through and then they weren't even boarding. And I was like, oh, my God.

0

395.655 - 403.783 Alex Hourigan

Yeah. And then we got on like a non-air-conditioned plane with like a warm Coke. It was just not optimal. That just gave me the shivers.

403.903 - 405.424 Sally McMullen

I know. I feel like I need to have a shower now.

Chapter 5: What are the benefits of morning vs. evening showers?

405.624 - 408.747 Sally McMullen

Yeah. You're in your outside clothes inside your body.

0

408.727 - 435.743 Alex Hourigan

I want to be a skeleton in bed. Yeah. Okay. Okay, what's your monthly favorite? My monthly favorite is something that I've been watching, binging, I dare say, and it is. Oh, is it like a 22-episode show? There have been a lot of episodes, but no, not like that. Is it an old show? No. Well, kind of. Oh, okay, can I have a clue? It's a reality TV show. Oh, is it Real Housewives?

0

435.903 - 451.932 Alex Hourigan

No, but I want to watch that. I think I'm going to save that for our trip. I feel like that's a good plane show, don't you reckon? Okay. It's something you wouldn't guess that I would watch or enjoy, I don't think. Is it a dating show? It's a competition show. Okay.

452.618 - 465.904 Alex Hourigan

Survivor? Survivor. What the fuck? Survivor season 50. Are you serious? Yes. It's on Stan and it is so fucking good. You need to watch it. I'm sorry.

466.024 - 468.83 Sally McMullen

I'm just still like really chuffed with the fact that I guessed that.

469.05 - 469.531 Alex Hourigan

Yeah.

469.912 - 471.335 Sally McMullen

Oh my God.

471.355 - 474.519 Alex Hourigan

You would love it. Would I? Yes.

Chapter 6: How can you maximize your nap for better focus?

693.203 - 695.667 Sally McMullen

Did you know that more people die from a coconut than a shark?

0

695.807 - 701.435 Alex Hourigan

Yeah. Yeah. If you get bonked on the head with a coconut, it's over. Red Rover. Yeah.

0
0

701.913 - 717.218 Alex Hourigan

But, yeah, so they just ate coconut. That's it. They're doing all of these, like, strenuous challenges. They're in Fiji fighting the elements, sleeping on, like, literally the ground. Because the thing is, obviously, these people, they need, like, alliances, people who they know are going to vote for them.

0

717.618 - 730.94 Alex Hourigan

But then also, as the season goes on, the last, I think it's, like, maybe eight to ten people or something end up on the jury and they decide who wins at the end. Yeah. So the people that you vote out.

730.96 - 736.309 Sally McMullen

So you couldn't even like really stab anyone in the back because then you'd.

736.329 - 754.859 Alex Hourigan

Yeah, it's so fucking fascinating. I think you would really enjoy it. And because this is like an all-stars kind of season, all of the people on it are really, really good players. I thought you were going to say really hot. There's one guy who is really, really hot. So that's why you're watching it. He's pissing me off at the moment.

754.959 - 755.259 Sally McMullen

Oh, okay.

755.62 - 774.894 Alex Hourigan

Enemies to lovers. Yeah, yeah. But, yeah, it's really good. The premiere averaged 5.6 million viewers over its three-hour premiere episode. And... I think like there have been some critiques on it because there's been a few like celeb cameos and stuff that feel a little bit random.
