Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
This podcast is recorded on Gadigal land. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
Hey chicks, I'm Sel. And I'm Al. And this is Two Broke Chicks, a show that shares life lessons and tips to help make you rich in life. And today we are in for an absolute treat because we are joined by Hannah Collingwood-English. She's a beauty writer, pharmaceutical scientist and content creator. Hannah has a background in clinical research and she's also published a book called Your Best Skin.
So you know she's legit. I'm locked in.
I'm ready to have my best skin. Welcome Hannah.
Welcome to Two Broke Chicks.
Thank you so much for having me.
This has been a long time coming. We've wanted you on the show for so long, so we're so happy that we were able to line it up with when you were in Sydney.
Yeah, I can't believe I was away when you were in Melbourne. I know.
I was like star-crossed lovers. Seriously. When we were in Melbourne, oh my God, it was fucking freezing.

Chapter 2: How did Hannah Collingwood English get into the beauty industry?
When it rains, it pours, as they say, quite literally.
But before we get into the episode, we like to start with a life lesson of the week. So would you like to kick us off?
Yeah, so hard, right? I know. It's just that, like, it's okay to lean into your strengths. You know, like, I... you know, we have to go to like events a bit for work. That's not really my thing. Like I get a little bit shy. And so like, you don't actually have to be the best at saying hi to everyone and working the room. Like not everyone is amazing at that. And that's actually okay.
You can stay in your lane and do what you're best at as well. Yeah. I love that.
I feel like that's me now. Like even as I'm getting older, I'm like, I'm cool in my little corner. I'll come and say hey. But, yeah, you don't have to work the room. You don't have to be the life of the party. The main character energy, I'm like, it doesn't have to matter. I'm happy to be a side character, an extra, if you will. Yeah, exactly.
I love on TV shows where you see, like, the extra who's like, this is their first gig in, like, an acting show and they're like, I'm going to own this extra role. This is my 15 seconds.
Yeah, yeah.
There's always, I'm sure you can find them on TikTok, always look up, like, Gossip Girl Extra, like going hard or like something like that. And there's always someone in the club being like, yeah.
Yeah. Or like in the background of High School Musical or like the assistant in Love Actually, who's like, it's Elton, babe. And like gives him the phone at the end.

Chapter 3: What skincare advice does Hannah give for acne-prone skin?
Is there one particular one? There's one that's like Etude House Soonjung Mask. It's blue. They keep changing the packaging. We can put a link in the show notes as well. Soonjung Sheet Mask and it sort of feels like the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Sheet Mask. Oh, whoa. So even if my skin's angry, it's like fragrance-free. I love that fucking Cicaplast thing. Oh, I know.
For everything. It's like my... It's like Vaseline. Literally, which love that too. Yeah, I do. Vaseline, any problem, bit of Vaso.
Yeah, so true. Acne medication skin, Vaseline. Yeah. Sides of the nose. It's also like so it won't break you out. I love Vaseline. Yeah. Moisturizers? I think moisturizer, it's about the texture, right? And so you do tend to get a nicer texture.
texture when you spend a bit more sometimes I find the more although k-beauty ones now are so nice I've got that dr althea one in my it's not that moisturizing though so it was better before I started this medicine but um splurge for moisturizers yeah splurge because it's like that sensation that a lot of people get fussy about and don't like it so I think generally you
get a nicer texture when you pay more, but not always. Yeah. And sunscreen. You can save on sunscreen. I think. the mid range is probably the ones that I get the most. Like they're not $5, but they're also not $50. Yeah. In between there. Yeah. I like pharmacy brands for those.
Do you agree with the statement that the best sunscreen is the one that you wear?
Definitely. Yeah. But don't like rely on the SPF in your makeup.
Okay. That's interesting. So there's a lot of things that are like tinted sunscreen and tinted SPF. So you don't like those?
just if you're supposed to wear, I don't want this to get too convoluted, but they say a quarter teaspoon for your face, but it could be just a mil, which is a little bit less, depends on the size of your face. And it's because that's how much they use when they measure the SPF of it. So if you want to get SPF 50 plus out of your SPF 50 plus, then you have to wear like a fair bit.
