Nella notte di Natale del 1492 il timone di una delle tre caravelle di Cristoforo Colombo viene affidato, per qualche minuto, a un giovane mozzo inesperto chiamato Nuno. La nave finisce contro gli scogli e affonda. Una parte dell’equipaggio trova posto sulle altre due caravelle, l’altra parte viene lasciata sull’isola appena scoperta.
