Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

8.873 - 11.138

Thank you.

Chapter 2: What is Westmapod and who are the hosts?

37.038 - 45.337 Mark Aldridge

Hello and welcome to Westmopod, the Christy Time podcast about Agatha Christie's secret identity. I'm Dr Mark Aldridge.

0

Chapter 3: Who is Mary Westmacott and why is she significant?

45.638 - 54.017 Mark Aldridge

I read and write about Agatha Christie a lot, including my books, Agatha Christie's Marple Expert on Wickedness and Agatha Christie's Poirot, The Greatest Detective in the World.

0

53.997 - 67.33 Gray Robert Brown

Yes, and I'm Gray Robert Brown, and I'm a writer, and I'm a Christie fan, and I'm a Mary Westmacott fan. And here we are, the gang's back together. The gang's back together. We're starting all over again, brand new series.

Chapter 4: What are the six novels written by Mary Westmacott?

67.57 - 83.346 Gray Robert Brown

So for those who don't know, although, hello, I'm assuming several of you here do know, but we've been making a podcast called The Swinging Christies under our Christie Time umbrella, Mark and I, for what feels like 700 years. Oh.

0

83.326 - 85.108 Mark Aldridge

It's aged us terribly.

0

85.168 - 87.331 Gray Robert Brown

Hasn't it? Hasn't it? And we've had a blast.

0

Chapter 5: What are the goals of this podcast series?

87.371 - 98.985 Gray Robert Brown

That's been so fun and so informative. And yeah, we were just sort of casting around for what else we wanted to talk about. And this seemed to be the perfect opportunity.

0

99.245 - 110.219 Mark Aldridge

We go through our huge checklist of things that we want to do. So we literally have spoken for, well, since we recorded probably episode two of The Swinging Christies about, oh, and next we might do that.

0

Chapter 6: What is the series plan and how can listeners engage?

110.239 - 113.062 Mark Aldridge

And then after it, perhaps we could do that again. And plans have changed.

0

113.363 - 113.623 Gray Robert Brown

Yes.

0

113.643 - 114.905 Mark Aldridge

You know, we were going to do something else.

0

115.346 - 115.606 Gray Robert Brown

That's true.

0

115.626 - 117.489 Mark Aldridge

In fact, two other things I can think of that we were going to do.

Chapter 7: How does Agatha Christie's life influence her writing as Mary Westmacott?

117.929 - 121.154 Mark Aldridge

But these things gravitate towards us in the end, don't they?

0

121.194 - 140.08 Gray Robert Brown

Yeah. You know, one of the things that we did in The Swinging Christies was to kind of shine a light on something that was not being as widely spoken about in the mainstream of kind of Christie readership. And this is doing the same thing. It's another portion of her catalogue that doesn't quite get the love that we think it deserves. Yes.

0

140.06 - 149.257 Gray Robert Brown

I was going to say this is our second, so that means this is our second project together, but actually we've done quite a few little projects together now. I guess we have.

0

Chapter 8: What themes will be explored in the Mary Westmacott novels?

149.598 - 154.066 Gray Robert Brown

Having only met in 2022. 2022. Imagine that. I know.

0

154.547 - 156.731 Mark Aldridge

Some of which is not announced as we record.

0

156.892 - 157.934 Gray Robert Brown

No, true.

0

158.034 - 179.746 Mark Aldridge

But probably will be out in the world by the time this goes out. Agatha Christie wrote six books under the name Mary Westmacott, which is, of course, what this Westmapod is all about, which are quite unlike most of what she wrote under the name of Agatha Christie.

0

179.947 - 180.227 Gray Robert Brown

Yeah.

180.427 - 182.571 Mark Aldridge

That's what we really want to explore here, isn't it?

182.551 - 182.912 Gray Robert Brown

Yes.

183.212 - 184.614 Mark Aldridge

So who's Mary Westmacott?

184.634 - 205.766 Gray Robert Brown

Who is Mary Westmacott? Yeah, I think it's going to be quite the journey of discovery. I mean, we know, of course, it's Agatha Christie writing under a pseudonym, and we'll reveal more about this in our first proper episode in two weeks' time. That was a secret when it began, which is why we're saying, you know, Agatha Christie's secret identity, her secret alter ego, almost.
