Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
We finish our Wednesdays with nerdy stats courtesy of Peter Bluch. Hello to you, Bluch. How are you, Gerard? I'm good. Pensioners' Club?
Yes. Firstly, wonderful job last night. Best 49er of the year, largely because of the job you do. Well done. Thank you.
Thank you.
That's very kind.
Chapter 2: What is the Pensioners' Club in footy?
Nerdy stats inspired by the great Max Gorn who, two weeks ago, became the 74th player overall and the first Melbourne player to play 100 games beyond the age of 30. So we are in the mega nerdy category today, mate.
So we were talking about this when Scott Pendlebury and we were assessing longevity. Who has played the most league games post-30?
Craig Bradley has played 195. He was nearly 39 when he finished. Didn't debut until 22, so that's probably why he's at the top of this list. There are some of the really greats of the game. Bradley is 195. Michael Tuck, 190. Sean Burgoyne was 186. Brent Harvey, 184. Pendlebury now up to 182, and he's only 38 and a half. Plays on next year, could get to the top of that group. Dustin Fletcher, 170.
Dane Zorko is at 167. His body is stuttering, so who knows? Kevin Bartlett, 156. David Mundy, 151. And Travis Boat, 148, to finish out the top 10.
Who are our current players who are plus 100 and climbing?
Mark Blitz, just turned 35, is at 124. Sidebottom, 122. Rampy is at 120. Dangerfield, 120. Taylor Walker, 119.

Chapter 3: Who are the top players that have played the most games post-30?
And, of course, Max Gorn, now at 101.
And who's closing? Who might soon join this company?
Well, I don't reckon many will get there this year. Jeremy Howe's at 94 and he will. Reece Stanley's at 86 and he won't. Gunston's at 83. Darling's at 84. And Ryan Lester's at 80. So I don't think too many more of them will get there this year.
No, no. And a few of them probably won't get their full stop.
At all.
Yeah. Which shows you how hard this company is to reach.
Well, a lot of the ones after that, there's Tom Liberatore. He's injured. Uh, Jamie Elliott's injured. Jamie Cripps is not playing. Um, you know, so, you know, it's, it's a big, big ask.
It is. It is. All right. Give us some facts and figures on the breakdowns.
66 of the 74 have played the a hundred games plus beyond 30 at one club. Eight of them were split over two or more clubs. So John Mantell was one of the three, three, uh, clubs. Paul Ruse, John Lewis, David Cloak, Drew Petrie, Sam Mitchell, Luke Hodge, and Alex Jenks. Two of them got over two clubs. Uh, and, uh,

Chapter 4: What are the current players with over 100 games after turning 30?
No, no, that's right. So it'll be a while. All right. So give us the, that there are some names from the dim, dark past here. Who were the first to get there? So a hundred games plus 30.
Yeah. The first one was Bill Winley, who was a member of the first ever South Melbourne side. He played, had won three flags in the VFA. And so he, he played, he got to a hundred in 1905. His, his games record for South was the club record until Michael Lachlan, 102 years later. and then worked on the Argus in a sports reporting role for many, many, many years. One of the greats of the game.
Teddy Rankin and Henry Young at Geelong were both in 1909. George Angus at Collingwood in the grand final of 1910. Ted Rowell at Collingwood. Les Hughes at Collingwood. Jack Bissett, Richmond and South Melbourne in 1936.
Chapter 5: Who are the players likely to join the 100 games post-30 club soon?
Gordon Coventry. 1937, John Lewis at 1337, and Jim Adamson at North Melbourne in 1941. So it was a pretty rare feat early days because they started playing football so much later. I mean, they didn't start at 17 and 18 back then. For example, Bradley started at 22.
all right, there's one family that missed on both fronts.
Well, I wondered, I thought, let's see who this argument was between the Rehwoldt boys. And it was actually a draw. Nick Rehwoldt played 98 and Jack Rehwoldt played 98. So there's no bragging rights for that one. And what's the Pensioner Club net games? Explain this to me. I just thought the most games played after 30 minus the games pre-30. And This didn't happen very often.
There's only five who have passed 50, and they're all old-timers, I guess, which it goes to the point that they're starting much earlier these days. But Jack Biffett, Richmond and South Melbourne, South Melbourne Premiership captain coach in 33, he played 90 games, but it hadn't started until really late.
He had a bit of time out of the game in the Winner League, resumed at Richmond at 31 in 1931, and then played 109 games at South Melbourne after that. So he's plus 90. Charlie Norris was plus 80. Ted Rowell, George Angus, Burt Clay is plus 75. Bill Windley plus 73. And then Glenn Dinning at Fitzroy was plus 55. And I just noticed my Nats. Not five. There were eight of them.
I didn't count that line of three as one. So there we are. Error. Error by me. But as I say, Bradley is only plus 15. Zorko is plus 23. Luke Parker is minus 195. It's not going to happen too often these days.
Yes. Yeah. Blooch, that's terrific. Thank you. Thank you, mate.
