Defining Community

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” — Coretta Scott King The word community is used too frequently in the online space these days. Of course this is just my own opinion, but it seems every Facebook group or e-mail list is referred to as a community when the more appropriate term might be gathering space or network. There’s nothing inherently wrong with these groups, but to me, a community should mean something a little bit more and the term should be reserved for groups of people who embody the characteristics and values of a community.
