Hydrocoeles in babies | not done looking for a loophole yet

31 Mar 2021

Description

Hydrocoeles in babies are a common finding - up to 1 in 10 boys have one at birth! The pathogenesis is similar to that of inguinal hernias - the failure of the processus vaginalis to close following the descent of the testes. However in hydrocoeles, only fluid descends through the processus vaginalis, no other abdominal content.    Most of the time, hydrocoeles will resolve on their own, but the likelihood of resolution if still present at 15 months is low.    You don't want to miss: Pathophysiology of hydrocoeles Statistics Presenting features Important points on examination Management Complications   Links and resources:   Follow us on Instagram @yourekiddingrightdoctors Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourekiddingrightpod-107273607638323/   Our email is [email protected]   Make sure you hit SUBSCRIBE/FOLLOW so you don't miss out on any pearls of wisdom and RATE if you can to help other people find us!   (This isn't individual medical advice, please use your own clinical judgement and local guidelines when caring for your patients)
